2.0 SOFTWARE OPERATION

2.1 IP Camera Tool

When the Device has been mounted properly, you can double click the icon IP Camera Tool and a dialog box, such as Figure 2.1 will pop up.

Figure 2.1 The software searches for the IP Camera automatically over the LAN. There are three possible scenarios: (1) If no Camera is found on the LAN, after about 1 minute of searching the Result Field will show not found IP Server and the program will shut down automatically. (2) If IP Cameras are found on the LAN, all of the IP Cameras will be listed and the total number will be displayed in the result field as shown in Figure 2.1. (3) If all the IP Cameras installed on the LAN do not share the same subnet with the monitoring PC, a prompt will be displayed with a Subnet doesnt match, dbclick to change! message. Click the left mouse button to choose the prompt and click the right mouse button to choose Network Configuration. This will set the IP address of the Camera to the same subnet as the LAN. (Figure 2.5) You can also choose Obtain IP from DHCP server or set a static IP for the camera. (Figure 2.4)
NOTE: If you could not find the cameras IP with the IP camera tool, please check if DHCP is enabled on your router, or disable
MAC address filtering if on WI-FI. Also, make sure that your firewall (if used) isnt blocking access to the camera.

Setup Options Choose the IP Camera list and right click; there are six options: Basic Properties, Network Configuration, Upgrade Firmware, Refresh Camera List, Flush Arp Buffer, and About IP Camera Tool as shown Figure 2.2.

Figure 2.2

smarthome.com

Smarthome Wireless IP Camera

Basic Properties There is device information in the Basic Properties, such as Device ID, System Firmware Version, and Web UI Version. (Figure 2.3) If there are several cameras on the list, then choose basic properties to check the Device ID and find the IP address that belongs to the camera you wish to set up. For example, if Device ID is 00606E8C5058, it will have the same MAC Address as found on the sticker on the bottom/back of the camera. Each camera has its own MAC Address. Sometimes, if a cameras IP is not found on the IP Camera Tool, the firewall may be blocking it. In that case, you can either add the MAC Address to your router and give it a fixed IP, or add the MAC Address as a trusted site. There are two MAC addresses: one is Wired MAC, and the other is Wi-Fi MAC.

4.1.2 Why does the message Subnet doesnt match, dbclick to change appear on my screen?
If IP Camera Tool shows the error Subnet doesnt match, dbclick to change!, select Obtain IP from DHCP server. (Figure 2.4) If this error still exists after you Obtain IP from DHCP server, check your local area connection of your computer and verify that the subnet and gateway of the camera are the same subnet as your computer. (Figure 2.5)

4.1.3 Why isnt my video streaming or showing images?

The video streaming is transmitted by the ActiveX controller. If ActiveX controller isnt installed correctly you will see no video image. There are two ways to resolve this problem: 1) Re-install IP Camera Tool and ActiveX controlrecommended (Figure 2.10-Figure 2.12) 2) Download ActiveX controller and set the security setting of IE: IE browserToolInternet ProperSecurityCustom LevelActiveX control and Plug-ins. The first three options should be set to be Enable, The ActiveX programs read by the computer will be stored as follows: Enable: Download unsigned ActiveX controls Enable: Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe Enable: Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins

Figure 4.2 NOTE: Make sure that your firewall or anti-virus software does not block the camera or ActiveX. If you can not see live video, try shutting down the firewall or anti-virus software and try again.

4.1.4 Why isnt the IP camera accessible on internet?

Possible reasons why the camera is not accessible on the internet:
smarthome.com
38

Smarthome Wireless IP Camera

1. ActiveX controller is not installed correctly (see more details: Figure 2.10-Figure 2.12). 2. The port that the camera uses is blocked by a firewall or anti-virus software. Try changing the port number (Figure 4.2). 3. Port forwarding is not successful (see more details in Quick Installation GuideHow to set DDN Service settings).

4.1.5 The IP Camera Tool cant find the cameras IP

Check for the following: 1. Verify that the network cable is securely fastened to the camera. 2. Make sure DHCP is enabled on your router and do not enable MAC address filter. 3, Make sure that the firewall or anti-virus software does not block the camera. You can add the camera as a trusted site on your firewall or anti-virus software.

4.1.6 Why has the UPnP failed?

The UPnP only contains port forwarding in our recent software. Sometimes, a port forwarding may fail automatically because of the firewall or anti-virus software. It may also be due to the routers security settings. We recommend manually configuring port forwarding so the camera can be viewed on the internet.

4.1.7 Why cant I find a shortcut on my desktop after installing the IP camera tool?
If you use Windows 7 or Vista and the shortcut is missing after installing the IP camera tool, check the path of IP Camera program. For example, if the path reads: C:\Windows\System32\IPCamera.exe, then change the path to read: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\IPCamera.exe. After this you should be able to use the shortcut without any problems.

4.1.8 Why cant I change the record path?

When you use Windows7 or Vista, you may be not able to change the record path for the security settings of computer. Please add the camera as a trusted site to resolve this issue. The steps are IE browserToolsInternet OptionsSecurityTrusted sitesSitesAdd

4.1.9 Why cant I find the multi-device settings and record icon?
Record and multi-device function are controlled by ActiveX controller. These functions are not available in Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari.

4.1.10 Why wont the camera connect wirelessly?

If your camera cannot connect wirelessly after you enable the wireless settings, unplug / plug the power cable (for more details: Wireless LAN settings in Quick Installation Guide) Make sure your wireless settings are correct and match your wireless router or access point.

4.1.11 Why cant I see other cameras in multi-device WAN?

If you want to view all the cameras on the WAN, verify that each camera you added in the multi-device settings can be accessed by using the DDNS name and port number. Use the DDNS domain name not cameras LAN IP (for more details reference: How to add cameras in WAN)

4.1.12 I only see a black screen or undefined characters when using remote login.
If you can access the login page remotely, this indicates that your DDNS settings are correct. If you are unable to see live video and/or undefined characters, this may be due to internet speed issues or the camera using Wi-Fi.

4.2 Default Parameters

Default network Parameters IP address: DHCP Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: DHCP DDNS: Disabled Username and password: Default administrator username: admin Default administrator password: No password

4.3 Port Forwarding Basics

A software port is a numbered connection that your network will use to provide or deny access to your home LAN (local area network) from a remote location. Since LAN ports are closed to Internet and remote traffic, port forwarding allows you to access your home LAN from any Internet connection. IMPORTANT! Setting up port forwarding varies based on the make and model of your router. These examples are provided to help you understand the port forwarding process and may not be specific to the type of router you are using. Please see the instructions provided with your specific router on how to enable port forwarding for your device. Netgear 1. Type your routers address into an Internet browser address bar. By default this should be 192.168.0.1, however the information should be provided in your routers instructions or

labeled on the router itself. You will be prompted to enter a username and a password - for Netgear devices, the default username is "admin" and the password is "password" or "1234" unless you have changed them previously. 2. Once logged in, open "Advanced" on the left navigation and click on "Port Forwarding". You will see the Ports window open which contains information on existing HTTP and FTP ports (these are used to connect your router to the Internet). 3.
