Imaging
Description: Demonstrate good photography and image editing skills using a camera and Photoshop. Programs: Adobe Photoshop Date: 2/19/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert Objectives: Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, and then download it. Size and crop the image. Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image. Process: I took many photos of my sister, wearing my sunglasses and holding my iPod touch, with my Nikon camera and then uploaded my favorite shot onto Photoshop. I resized it to a 66 and kept my focal point on the iPod. I desaturized everything but the iPod case and her fingernail and then I changed the color of the iPod case and made her fingernail a darker blue and saturized it the littlest bit using the Hue/Saturation option.

Flier
Description: To design a flier layout in InDesign using images and learn about links and the basics of InDesign. Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop Date: 1/26/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert Objectives: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact. Process: What I first did was draw a brief simple sketch of my brainstormed idea of how I wanted to organize the paper. Once I had my rough drawing I went to InDesign and basically did what I drew but developed and changed it from there. I had contrasting repetition black boxes for the title and the date so that they stood out more for the focal point. I used a big font for the title and smaller sans serif for the body copy with a strong left alignment. I cropped the photo that I was given enough so that I could keep the point of the hat that pointed to the body (keep the eyes on the paper).

Web Page
Description: Create a web page for a potential employer using one of my logos with a description of the design process that demonstrates basic HTML and CSS skills. Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop Date: 3/15/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert Objectives: Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design. Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file. Process: I created this webpage using TextWrangler and writing basic codes. It was like learning another language. I attached a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. Using Photoshop I got the codes for the colors of my logo and incorporated them into the webpage. I didnt use exact colors, I changed them to either really dark and/or super light versions of the colors. For the background tile picture I grabbed that from the internet and on Photoshop I gave it a dark purple hue to match the violet/purple theme I have going on. The words in the border were inspired by the fact that star is from outer space, hence galaxy. Instead of having the page white I made it a really light, pale, purple so that it would not stand out badly. The font color is a really dark blue that it looks almost black. I had some of the other colors from my logo in my webpage but it made it look really childish and unprofessional. I feel that this version still is fun and has color, but is not so crazy that you could taste the rainbow.

Stationery
Description: Design a new logo and a letterhead for a business letter Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Indesign Date: 3/2/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert Objectives: Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. Process: For the logo I added four different colored stars with a faded transparency of 60%. I angled them so that you could see all of the different colors from the tips of the stars and then wrote the name over it. The stars on the back of the business card are the same colors and then some. I really wanted to bring up the fact that starbust is a colorful candy, so I kept it lively and fun to look at. I added a big star with a faded transparency of 10% just enough so that you could still write a letter and have your white space.

Brochure
Description: Design a full-color, folding brochure to help promote the company product, service and information using four images for my employer. Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop Date: 3/30/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. Process: For my project I chose to do it on something that I love. So I chose yoga! I proceeded to collect the 4 photos needed for my project and then organized them onto my brochure so that it would look simple and give it a peaceful feeling since yoga is very relaxing. I chose this wooden paneling picture for my border because its a nice soft color and usually in yoga studios the floor is wooden paneling of some kind. I designed the logo on Adobe Illustrator and named it after my favorite series of yoga poses. Then the picture of the face in the logo is suppose to be a man praying/meditating with his head bowed down as if hes about to say Namaste. The font I chose was to make it look professional and clean looking.

Logos
Description: Design three unique and different logos for a company. Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Indesign Date: 2/23/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert Objectives: Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use the basic tools of Illustrator. Process: For the first logo I chose a nice simple yet fun font and in place of where the a in star would have gone I put an actual star. For my second logo I filled in the capitalized initials with colorful squares to represent starbursts since they are a square shaped candy. I had to erase the parts of the colored boxes that went outside the line. For the third logo I placed a start and designed the gradient slider for it and then painted the strokes of the shooting star effect to emphasize on the burst part of the word. I made the font a dark blue to add some contrast.

Montage
Description: Create a new and fresh inspirational poster using a composite of images and type. Blend two or more images with text using a layer mask to blend images. Programs: Adobe Photoshop Date: 2/15/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert Objectives: Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. Use filters. Apply appropriate typography. Process: I got my favorite quote first and then found pictures that I felt matched it. I got a field of tulips and a cute baby. Then I masked the baby onto the field of tulips and added the quote at the top right hand corner.

Business Card
Description: Design a business card with a new logo but same new logo as stationery Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Indesignz Date: 2/19/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert Objectives: Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. Event Ad
Description: Scan an image to create an event ad that will promote a fundraiser of your choice for the Chamber of Commerce using Microsoft Word. Programs: Microsoft Wordv Date: 2/3/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert Objectives: Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word. Process: I scanned the cake image and then used Word to crop the photo and make it smaller so that it would fit the page better. I added a big picture and then a smaller to fill in space. I used a dark pink, a light pink and a light yellow color for the squares to match the cake. I used two different fonts for the title and the information for contrast.
