NHAI to redevelop 1,700km in Rajasthan

The Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Railways, Dr. C.P. Joshi, has laid the foundation stone for the commencement of work of four-laning of Gomati ka Chauraha- Udaipur section of NH-8 in Rajasamand district of Rajasthan. This section of 83 km length is being constructed under NHDP on design-buildfinance-operatetransfer basis on toll. The 914- crore PPP project of NHAI is likely to be completed by the end of April 2015. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that public-private partnership was important for the rapid development of India's infrastructure network and emphasised that a country could not become economically strong unless its infrastructure was developed. There were 73,000- km long national highways and work on this sector was continuing on a large scale everywhere, he stated. Referring to the development to roads in Rajasthan, Dr. Joshi said that around 1,700-km long national highways had been announced in the last one-and-ahalf years for which approximately 20,000 crore would be spent. He pointed out that the road construction work was continuing at a fast pace in many states like Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh alone, projects worth 20,000 crore were underway. PRIVATE FINANCING UNDER PPP FRAMEWORKS

The 1,375-km long NH-8 passes through the cities of Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Mumbai encompassing the states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Out of 1,375 km highway length, 13 km is in Delhi, 101 km in Haryana, 635 km in Rajasthan, 498 km in Gujarat and 128 km in Maharashtra. The Gomati ka Chauraha- Udaipur section of NH-8 will cater to the Rajasmand and Sukhar Marble industrial area. The important historical place of Haldighati is 16 km from the project highway. The project will also serve many religious places. The three flyovers on this section are the elevated four-lane flyover at Nathdwara, six-lane flyover at Rajsamand, and three other flyovers at Kelwa Chopati, Amet Chouraha and Bhilwara Road Crossing. Other important highlights of this project are two major bridges over Banas and Khari rivers; bypasses at Delwara and Eklingji; and a six-lane double tube tunnel of 440 metre length at Chirwa Ghat. Under the National Highways Development Project, NHAI is developing national highways in addition to widening single lanes to two lanes, two lanes to four lanes, construction and rehabilitation of bridges, construction of bypasses, and improvement of riding quality under the government's annual plan programmes. NHDP is being implemented in seven phases wherein phase-III onwards would be implemented in public-private partnership mode.

JNNURM triggers investment in 554 projects

As on June 30, 2012, 554 projects at a total cost of 62,253 crore have been sanctioned under the urban infrastructure section and governance sub-mission of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, which is attempting to trigger investment in the urban infrastructure sector. The Additional Central Assistance committed by the Government of India towards meeting the central share of the total project cost for these 554 projects is 28,779 crore, out of which an amount of 17,853 crore has been released to the Mission Cities. In addition, an amount of 2,089 crore had been sanctioned as Central Share for Buses under stimulus package, out of which 1,342 crore has been released till date. Thus, total release till date is 19,195 crore. Under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT), 807 projects at a total cost of 14,021 crore have been sanctioned. The Additional Central Assistance committed by the government towards meeting the central share of the total project cost for these 807 projects is 11,358 crore, out of which an amount of 8,915 crore has been released to 672 small and medium towns. JNNURM was launched by the government on December 3, 2005, envisaging an investment of more than 1,00,000 crore during a period of seven years from 2005-06 to 2011-12 with a committed central government share of 66,000 crore. It is a reform-driven, fast-track programme to ensure planned development of identified cities with focus on efficiency in urban infrastructure and service delivery mechanisms, and through community participation and enhanced accountability of urban local bodies and parastatal agencies towards citizens.

Foundation laid for NSG structure

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has laid the foundation stone of the composite structure for the Counter Hijacking Unit of the elite National Security Guard at Samalkha Camp in New Delhi. The Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned 47.42 crore for the composite structure as a part of the modernisation and development project of NSG. The composite structure will

have an area of 15,502 sq. metres and will have a four-storey structure. It will have provisions for living accommodation for 540 commandos as well as administrative block, training hall, classrooms, and other operational and training infrastructure. The construction work is scheduled to be completed within 18 months from the date of start.

Global EPC for supercritical power project

The scope of work involves design, engineering, manufacture, shop fabrication, assembly, testing and inspection, transportation to site, insurance, delivery at site, receipt, unloading, handling, storage and in-plant transportation at site, installation, pre-testing, commissioning including all civil, structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical and I&C works, and handing over to the owner the 2x660 MW capacity STPP comprising steam generator, steam turbine and generator and other associated auxiliaries and BoP. &KERA provides funds to construct bridges


4 August 2012: Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (J&KERA) has spent Rs 51 crore on construction of 21 bridge in the Kashmir division under Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded Multi sector Project for Infrastructure Rehabilitation (MPIR). The ERA under bridges component of its transport sector of ongoing ADB funded MPIR has so far spent Rs 51 crore on construction of 21 bridges in Kashmir division. Out of 21 bridges taken up by the ERA under Transport sector, work on 10 bridges has already been completed, while as work on remaining 11 bridges is presently underway. Bridges already completed include Kani Kadal, Gundtaldara, Teilbal bridges in Srinagar district, Town hall and Naraspora bridges in Budgam district, Laktipora and Soafshali bridges in Anantnag district, Dachnipora and Yarbugh bridge in Baramulla district and Popchan in Bandipor district. J&K ERA has spent Rs 22.87 crore on construction of these completed bridges. Work on remaining 11 bridges is in progress. These include Saidpora and Padshahi Bagh Bridge, Srinagar, Sail, Tokina and Wahibugh, Pulwama, Sonwani, Kupwara, Chanpora-Kunzer and Singhpora-Kanihama, Baramulla. Kir Kadal Bridge, Anantnag. Further J&K ERA has also taken up construction of two bridges in Ladakh division, Tharmsu-Pushkum in Kargil and Urbis Bridge in Leh. Punjab Deputy Chief Minister approves heritage rejuvenation plan for Amritsar
4 August 2012: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal has approved a multithousand crore heritage rejuvenation plan for the holy city Amritsar to make it number one tourist destination of South-East Asia and gateway from Attari border to India. The Deputy Chief Minister himself will be heading Metropolitan Council of Amritsar that will oversee and monitor the time-bound execution and implementation of all projects, in sync with Ancient Heritage of Amritsar so that the holy city does not lose its original character. The Council gave in principle approved upgradation of Attari Tourist Reception Centre coupled with restaurant, food plaza, open air-theatre, multi-level parking to facilitate the tourists. Jammu to get Mini Secretariat, 100 bedded hospital soon


1 August 2012: A mini secretariat, hospital, Ayurvedic Medical College cum hospital and other complexes are soon coming in Akhnoor belt of Jammu. A mini Secretariat is being established in 35 kanal with an estimated cost of Rs 13 crore besides Rs 23 crore Ayurvedic Medical Collegecum-Hospital, Rs 10 crore School and Hostel for general nursing and MD wifery School, Rs 33.36 crore and 100 bedded Hospital under NRHM at Akhnoor. The concerned authority have been instructed to complete both the structures of Ayurvedic Medical College and government nursing within stipulated time frame.

Noida Authority invites bids for skywalk


6 July 2012: The Noida Authority has invited technical bids for construction of a skywalk at the Sector 37 intersection. Bids were also floated for 13 foot-overbridges on Friday. The aim is to build the skywalk, the first in the city, by next year in addition to the FOBs. The Authority has received three technical bids for the skywalk and FOBs. One of these companies will now be shortlisted. Once a company is selected for the project, it will be asked to submit a financial bid and a detailed project report, including its design and feasibility, within a month. It should take six months to complete the project once the work kicks off, say officials. The skywalk is supposed to be a four-way bridge. The crossing is likely to get busier once the Metro route is extended to Kalindi Kunj. Those coming out of the Botanical Garden Metro station will have access to the skywalk, as it will be linked directly to the station. The project would involve design, development, construction, financing, operation, maintenance, revenue collection and deployment. The aim is to improve services for pedestrians and ensure a safe and convenient walkway for them. Source: Times of India

UP to build industrial township at Chola

To develop the integrated industrial township at Chola in Dadri-Noida-Ghaziabad area, the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation has been identified as the nodal agency. Emphasising the scope of industrial development in Uttar Pradesh under Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor project, infrastructure and industrial development commissioner Anil Gupta said different agencies of the State government will have 51 per cent equity, while Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation will have 49 per cent stake in the proposed Special Purpose Vehicle to develop an integrated industrial hi-tech township. In the SPV formed with DMIC, Greater Noida Authority and Bulandshahr Khurja Development Board would be participants. Gupta also said that the State government is exploring the possibility of a project on the lines of DMIC on Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor to spur industrial development along the DMIC corridor. Of 1,890 km of the Eastern Freight Corridor Project, nearly 1,100 km passes through Uttar Pradesh. The government will also set up five feeder routes measuring nearly 700 km, out of 14 feeder routes proposed under Eastern Freight Corridor, in UP. Manoj Singh, Managing Director, UPSIDC said that UPSIDC will have equity in the form of around 2,000 acre of land that is being acquired in Chola near Ghaziabad.

Punjab govt initiates Rs 13,000 crore road connectivity project

The Punjab government today launched a programme of Rs 13,000 crore to connect all major cities and towns in the state with 4/6 lane expressways. the state has 1,739 km of National Highway of which 405 km have already been upgraded to 4 lane and the construction of 4/6 laning of more than 650 km of highways is on full swing. The state government has chalked out an ambitious plan to construct quality roads along with the banks of major rivers and canals flowing through the state to provide shortest route. These projects would have dual benefit as besides developing shortest routes, we would also be able to strengthen the embankments of these water channels thereby containing any flood like situation

Gammon Infra Projects bags Rs 934.93 crore road project from NHAI Gammon Infrastructure Projects has bagged a contract from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for four-laning Yamunanagar-Saha-Barwala- Panchkula section of NH-73 in Haryana at an estimated cost of Rs 934.93 crore. The project will be executed on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) toll basis.
