Dear Supporters and Comrades, This letter is to inform you that Casa Atabex Ache has received a 30 day

notice to vacate the premises by April 30, 2013 without any explanation, warning or prior conversation. We will host an emergency meeting April 8th @ 6pm, 471 East 140th Street, Basement. Contact Sharim @ 347.258.7980 or Gisselle Sanchez @ 718.585.5540 for more information. Casa has served and organized in this community for over 15 years; the space was donated by the Landlord under the condition that we have programs for the young and adult womyn in community. I have tried to communicate with the l andlord since December 2012, so we can build a relationship and discuss our occupancy. Rumors in the neighborhood informed us that he wanted to get us out and he communicated to the former Executive Director, Dayanara Marte that he would be asking us for rent in the new year. On Monday, Dayanara spoke to the super and he informed her that the landlord did not want to talk to us personally. The Possibility This is an unfortunate situation that will require a team and multiple strategies. We are creati ng the possibility of 1. Requesting that a lawyer respond to the 30 day notice and negotiate with the landlord payment options and a lease agreement. 2. 90 days to vacate the space. 3. Organized action to keep the space and all cultural, healing and safe spaces in community. 4. Collaboration and partnership to get another donated space in the South Bronx. The Impact After working out of donated space in East Harlem, Casa found a home in Mott Haven in 1998; since then we have been providing, young and adult women leadership and empowerment workshops, healing circles and retreats, reproductive health classes and anti violence services to generations of families. The impact of the request to move out of the space is that womyn and children will not have access to a home outside their home, a holistic safe that has provided a respite for over 10,000 women and organizations nationally. The loss of a much needed space loose to heal from their experience of violence, poverty and oppression and empower themselves to create health and well-being in their lives and their community The Request: Actions to support right now: Write a letter of support and contact your allies and comrades to mobilize them to support our efforts Contact political leaders and community leaders invited to the meeting and provide information on vacant spaces that we can rent or share The community of the South Bronx cannot afford to lose yet anoth er life, another resource or another safe space. We need your support to strategize on next steps and save the space. With Love, Peace, Freedom and Ease, Sharim Algarin Executive Director
