UNCLE WALLY WONDERS

THE U.S. PRESIDENTIAL CAR (called "THE BEAST") 20 things you (probably) didn't know about Caddy one . . And might be interested to learn . . . 1 - Power comes from a 6.5-litre diesel engine that's fitted with a supercharger to help haul this beast around.. Yet despite this mammoth power plant, the top speed is only 60 mph (96Km) and it takes around 15 seconds to reach this. 2 - It is based on a GM truck chassis and weighs a staggering 6,350 kg (14000 pounds or 7 tons). To put that in context, the Rolls-Royce Phantom, one of the biggest cars on the road, weighs a paltry 2,550 kg (5,622 pounds or just over 2 tons) in comparison. This is why it only averages 8 mpg. (3km per litre) 3 - A lot of the weight comes from the Armour protection. The body is made up of steel, aluminium, titanium and ceramic. 4 - The glass is five-inches thick and only the windscreen opens, to allow the driver to talk to secret service running alongside or to pay a toll. It is also hermetically sealed to secure it from chemical attack. 5 - Should the worst happen, the Beast has its own oxygen supply. 6 - The military-grade Armour means the doors are eight-inches thick and weigh as much as a Boeing 747's. 7 - The doors are so thick that the president can't hear any outside noise, so speakers are built in to play the ambient sound of the crowd. 8 - The underside is reinforced with a Kevlar mat to protect Caddy One from bomb attacks. 9 - The fuel tank is leak proof and filled with special foam that prevents it from exploding, even in a direct hit. 10 - There are two holes in the front bumper that can emit tear gas and fire smoke grenades. 11 - There is also an infrared video system for the driver to drive through smoke and night vision cameras for driving in darkness without lights. 12 - Cadillac One normally flies two flags, the American flag and the Presidential Standard, which are lit up at night with LEDs. When President is on a state visit, the Presidential Standard is replaced by the flag of the country he is visiting. 13 - The Beast has a fire fighting system located in the trunk. 14 -Also in the trunk is a bank of the president's blood that is carried at all times and when he goes out an ambulance always follows close behind. 15 -President gets a presidential limo built to this specification every four years and the old ones are handed down to vice presidents and visiting heads of state. 16 - The vehicle can seat seven, with two seats up front, three rear-facing ones in the middle, and two at the back, one for the president and the other for a guest. 17 - Inside, President isn't deprived of his creature comforts; a 10-disc CD player is among the features, as well as a sophisticated electronic communications with direct phones to the White House and internal Internet. 18 - Defence systems include a pump-action shotgun in a compartment beside the driver. 19 - The tires are reinforced with Kevlar and can run when flat. If the tires are missing, the steel rims have been designed to allow the car to keep on driving at speed. 20 - Caddy One has no specific model name, but is called The Beast by the Secret Service. I wondered how much it cost. But, when you think about it, its priceless. SERTA TRUCK LOAD SCRATCH & DENT SALE KING ICOMFORT MATTRESS $299 Other sizes available. 518-526-2333 FOR SALE: Juke Box Kettle Corn Popper, used 1 time, cost $1,000, sell for $500. Blue Tip spin cast rod & reel, used once, cost $300, sell for $95. 2) Captains chairs for van, like new $250/pair. Large dresser with 22x34 mirror, $75 . 6 ft. Grandfather Clock, battery operated, $75. 518-747-5275

Asher is a 3yr. old male, grey tabby on white cat who came to Second Chance as a stray after showing up at a nice familys house. This family cared for Asher until he could come here to find his forever home. Asher is a very sweet guy who likes to be held, and can be placed into an indoor/ outdoor home. Asher would also be fine with other cats and children. If Asher sounds like the cat for you, please stop by and visit him. Hineine came to Second Chance because his owner was moving and unable to bring him along. He is used to being an indoor/outdoor cat and prefers to go to the bathroom outside. He has been around younger children, is okay with some other cats but his history with dogs is not known. He can be active at times and loves to play and run around. If Hineine sounds like the perfect cat for you please stop by and visit him. Hi my name is Holgan! I am a 3 yr old Miniature Pinscher who needs a home with someone who has a lot of patience and love. I came to Second Chance because my previous guardian was moving and could not take me. I am a little shy at first, but once I get to know you I am a happy, playful little ball of fun! I like to spend my time playing with toys and getting lots of attention. I also like to play hide and seek with my blankets. If I sound like the little guy for you, come visit me! Hi my name is Annie! I am a 5 year old Plott Hound. I am a sweet girl with lots of love to give. I enjoy attention and to lounge around on my doggie bed. I am very easy going and would love a home with a full family, children and all. I am good with other dogs and cats. If I sound like the girl for you, please come see me at SCAC!

The research, organizing, writing and publishing of the data found is often a thankless project. However, Poultney resident Gertrude P. Horridge recently was bestowed with the Lola Parks Spohn Nielsen Award by the Parks Family for her work. The award, a plaque, is given annually by the Parks Family to living honorees to thank them for the service and research that they have done on behalf of their family. Gertrude received the award for her dedicated research about her Parks ancestors, a Wells, Rutland County, Vermont branch of the ancestral family group. Gertrude was also given recognition in The Parks Family Newsletter, a division of the Robert and Laban Parks of Ohio subgroup which is also affiliated with the Parke Society. SUNDAY MUSIC SERIES- Once again, the Salem Courthouse Community Center is proud to renew the Sunday Chamber Music series under the guidance of Daniel Shulman, pianist and conductor. Gaining popularity since the series started in 2010, the audiences appreciation of both the venue, (the old Courtroom with its lovely sound) and the top-flight musicians has been exciting. It is rare to have such a professional level in a rural area. A couple, new residents from Albany, voiced their praise: We were impressed at the harnessing of energy in the community. Another fan admired the airy, elegant space. For 2013, the CCC received its fourth grant from LARAC in support. Leader and enthusiast Daniel Shulmans broad career spans roles in Japan, Holland and California where he established several chamber groups. He led a Stravinsky centennial festival in New York, was guest conductor for the St. Paul and St. Lukes Chamber orchestras as well as the Erich Hawkins Dance Company. His advanced performers seminars have brought accomplished worldwide players to the U.S. Especially informative are the performance introductions by Dan who illuminates each composer for us. The 2013 series will take place on Sundays at 3:00 pm on April 21, May 19 and June 9. The first spring performance will feature Beethoven, Schubert, and Haydn with the added spice of Stravinsky. Tickets are $20 each or $45 for the series of 3 concerts. The CCC offers a special $5 ticket price for all music students. We welcome music lovers to 3 lovely spring afternoons of music! Tickets will be sold at the door but may be reserved by calling 518-854-7053.
