How are you doing? Parvin: Im doing fine. Thanks! What about you? Nilufar: Im okay but little tense with my younger daughter, Anika. Parvin: What has happened to her? Nilufar: Nothing special. We had a dream that she would be a doctor but the dream didnt come true. Now she is doing BBA. The 4th semester is going on. Parvin: Thats not at all bad! She is very much in the right track. Where is the problem? Nilufar: The problem is that she is a very soft spoken girl and a bit shy also. Having done BBA, she will try for job and there lies the challenge for her. She doesnt talk much and is not very good in communicative English. You know how competitive the job market is at present. Parvin: Yes, right you are. Modern English is all about effective communication, making the other person understand what you want to say as long as spoken communication is concerned. Well, at the time of writing, you have to be careful about grammar. Tell Anika to get started speaking English as much as she can; wherever and whenever she gets opportunity. Any practice is good. Tell her to form a group of friends who are interested in speaking English and make an English only environment among them. That will really pay off. Thats how my son got his communication skills better.

Nilufar: This is a really very good piece of advice! I will tell Anika accordingly. Thanks a lot, apa. Have a great time. Parvin: You too. Bye! Core words:

The starfish Once a man was walking along a beach. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. Off in the distance he could see a person going back and forth between the surfs edge and the beach. Back and forth this person went. As the man approached, he could see that there were hundreds of starfish stranded on the sand as the result of the natural action of the tide. The man was stuck by the apparent futility of the task. There were far too many starfish. Many of them were sure to perish. As he approached, the person continued the task of picking up starfish one by one and throwing them into the surf. As he came up to the person, he said: You must be crazy. There are thousands of miles of beach covered with starfish. You cant possibly make a difference. The person looked at the man. He then stooped down and pick up one more starfish and threw it back into the ocean. He turned back to the man and said: It sure made a difference to that one!
