N
obody wants to bare his soul in prison its too threatening an
environment, too scary. And a prison in Guatemala? Its brutal!
World Racer Hugh Roberts didnt want to tell the truth about his
past when his team conducted a worship service in Chimaltenango
Citys maximum security prison ...
.... but his compassion for the broken men before him changed
his mind.
I am done sugar coating my testimony, he remembers thinking.
He told the truth about his past the addictions, the jail time, the
mistakes.
And the Holy Spirit used what he said to speak to these
desperate inmates. One even wrote him a note telling him, I have
struggled for many years with sexual sins, but since you shared your
testimony, I have found deliverance through Jesus.
Across Guatemala, thousands are imprisoned not only behind
bars, but in prisons of hopelessness, poverty, and false religions. We can
help them, through the new Guatemala base.
Please pray and give now. Thank you.

Unsugar-coating ... in prison
New base: Guatemala!
T
hirty years of civil war left its mark. From 1960 to
1996, the country was inamed with violence.
Two hundred thousand were killed. Others
just disappeared during that time the
desaparecidos number 40,000. A million people
were internally displaced; 250,000 ed the country.
The war is over, but the violence remains.
Guatemala has the highest murder rate in Latin
America, due mostly to the activities of gangs,
drug trackers and death squads. Once used as a
tool on both sides in the civil war, the squads have
reconvened now for politically-motivated murders.
This setting perpetuates poverty and
hopelessness among most Guatemalans.
Most children over six live in extreme poverty.
Many of them wind up addicted to drugs or are
forced into gangs or the sex trade.
Some 15,000 orphaned or abandoned children
live in the streets ... and theres tragic evidence that
death squads have hunted down and massacred
these unwanted young people.
About 40% of the people come from indigenous
tribes which suer disproportionately from poverty,
hunger, disease, and limited opportunities. And
there are relatively few active believers among this
indigenous population.
A Guatemala base is needed now. We know
from our base in Mexico that building long-
term relationships with the
indigenous people can make a
tremendous dierence.
This is your moment to
launch a new base that will
impact Guatemala and all of
Latin America for years to come.
Support the Guatemala base with
your prayers and giving, today.
O
ur 10-person development
team for the Guatemala base is
already on the ground in Antigua,
Guatemala.
Led by Jonathan and Ann Little,
longtime Adventures sta members,
this team is committed to:
tDiscipling Guatemalan
nationals and other missionaries for
ministry to the indigenous people
and the rest of Guatemalan society.
t Developing nationals for
ministry in other Latin American
nations and around the world.
tMobilizing short-term teams
like the World Racers.
Guatemala has an established
church with a strong history and
great reach. Its time for Guatemalan
believers to follow the call to world
evangelism in greater ways, and our
new Guatemala base will help them
make this step
forward.
The Lord has
invited us to Guatemala
to experience depths in him like
never before. We are being sent not
to start something new, but to serve
and bless what he is already doing.
In that process, well pour into the
people here. Well train and disciple
the ones that the Lord connects
us with. And then well send them
out as he leads. We also recognize
that the Lord will be teaching and
training us through our Guatemalan
brothers and sisters in Christ.
Right now the Guatemala base
development team is seeking Gods
guidance on how next to proceed
as they work in the community and
look for ministry opportunities. They
need your prayers and support.
Thank you!

orld Racer Charlene
Geddes already loves
Guatemala because she
loves Luis.
She met him a month
ago a little boy who
suers with autism, along
with ailments resulting
from malnutrition.
His mother died giving
birth to him. His father
had abandoned him. And when he
arrived at the Casa Jackson Center
where Charlene is serving, this
12-year-old boy weighed just 25
pounds. Today, with the loving care
and nutritious food given to him at
the center, he weighs 50 pounds and
gets stronger each day.
Charlene bathes him, feeds him,
diapers him like a baby, and walks
him around the center for exercise.
Although Luis is non-verbal, his
personality still shines through, she
says. I love loving him the way Jesus
would love him. I love being Christs
hands and feet and in a beautiful
way, Luis shows me Jesus every day, too.
For Luis, and half the child
population of Guatemala who
suer malnutrition just as he does,
we want to launch the Guatemala
base as soon as we can. Thanks for
praying with us.
Guatemala in need ...
S
he looked out from the
bars on the window the
striking but sad face of a young
prostitute in a noisy, smoky club.
She saw Emily Hix, a World
Racer, on the street and spoke
with her for just a moment,
accepting Emilys oer to pray
with her through the bars ...
As I was nishing up my
prayer, God told me to touch
her cheek and tell her, You are
beautiful, Emily says. She looked
at me and suddenly had the
biggest smile on her face. She
just lit up from the inside.
For a young prostitute like
Marie, and thousands enslaved
to the sex trade in Guatemala,
we must oer Gods love and
truth. Thank you for being part
of their restoration.
We believe
Guatemala has
the potential to
be a leader in
sending out its
people to the
mission eld.
Loving Luis Guatemala Base ready to launch Beautiful Marie
Jonathan and Ann Little
How much of the child
population gets to eat?
In Guatemala, 49% of
children age six and under suer
malnutrition, opening them up to
devastation by developmental delays,
cognitive diculties, and debilitated
immune systems.
And that horrifying statistic is just one of
Guatemalas many problems resulting from poverty
and hopelessness.
Our teams do a lot of good youll read here
about their impact but much more must be done.
Guatemalan believers know their country, and they
must be equipped to step up, take the torch, and run with it.
ats what the new Guatemala base is all about.
As Clint Bokelman, part of Adventures Executive
Leadership Team, says:
God is not sending us to Guatemala to evangelize
and save its people. God is sending us to call out, train
up, and send forth Guatemalans to the nations.
