eZeMatte TM allows you to overlay an image over an iMovie TM clip adding borders, frames, themes, logos, or any customized graphic to your movie clip. eZeMatte overlays are supplied with the installation, and new ones can be downloaded from the eZedia website at www.ezedia.com/iMovie/.
The procedure to add an eZeMatte effect to your iMovie clip is:

Create or open your iMovie project. For more information on working with iMovie, refer to the iMovie electronic help system. In the clip viewer, select the clip that you want to add an eZeMatte effect. Click the Effects button. The Effects pane is displayed.

Configure eZeMatte

Select eZeMatte from the list of available effects. When eZeMatte is selected, a Configure button appears near the bottom of the Effects pane.

Click the Configure button. The eZeMatte dialog opens.

Click the Choose button. A file selection dialog opens. The file dialog box allows you to browse the computer and select the overlay graphic you wish to use as the eZeMatte effect. Locate and select the desired overlay graphic. The eZeMatte installation provides a number of sample overlay graphics in the eZeMatte Themes folder, which is located in your Documents folder. The eZeMatte folder can be selected quickly through the eZeMatte Themes shortcut, located in your Favorite Places. For the purpose of this tutorial, we are selecting the By the Pool.png graphic as our overlay graphic. Click the Open button to select the desired overlay graphic and to close the file dialog. You are returned to the eZeMatte dialog. The overlay graphic is displayed in the preview area. Graphics that are smaller than the size of the preview area will retain their size, and will be positioned in the top-left corner of the preview area. Graphics that are larger than the preview area will be shrunk to fit within the preview area. The overlay graphic has selection handles to allow the graphic to be resized and repositioned within the preview area.

(Optional) Select the Show TV Safe check box to display a preview area of what should display on a television screen. Anything that is outside of the TV Safe area will not display on a television screen. If the overlay graphic needs to be completely seen, enabling this option will provide a guide for resizing and repositioning the overlay graphic.

10 (Optional) Resize and reposition the overlay graphic as desired. 11 (Optional) Drag the Transparency slider to the desired amount of opacity. By default, the opacity of the matte graphic is set at 100% opaque, and the slider is positioned to the far right end of the Transparency slider bar. You can adjust the transparency amount from 0% (transparent) to 100% (opaque). 12 Click OK to accept the changes and to close the eZematte dialog. 13 (Optional) Re-select eZeMatte from the list of available effects. This will update the preview window located in the upper right corner of the Effects pane. 14 (Optional) Click the Preview button to view the effect in the Viewer window. 15 Click the Apply button to apply the eZeMatte effect across the selected clip. When you click the Apply button, a progress bar appears across the clip face in the clip viewer.
