Week of March 25, 2013 Supplement to the Bulletin Published by Lillie Suburban Newspapers, Inc.

Along with a trusted

name in the industry, Kath
Heating, Air Conditioning
and Electrical offers top-notch
products, stellar service and a
full electrical shop in-house.
Thanks to customer satis-
faction ratings ranging from
98 to 100 percent, Kath has
served the greater Twin Cities
metro area for almost 70
years.
Kath is an industry leader
carrying trusted products as a
noted Carrier factory-autho-
rized dealer, says manager
and master electrician Keith
Williams.
One of the popular Carrier
products is the Infinity
Control, a Wi-Fi enabled
touch screen thermostat. Kath
offers two other models of
Wi-Fi thermostats.
Weve seen a huge move-
ment to the Wi-Fi, wireless
communication thermostats,
says HVAC sales representa-
tive Brad Hansen.
Customers can control their
thermostat from any comput-
er, smartphone or tablet con-
nected to the Internet, Hansen
explains. The thermostat sys-
tem will also send an email
update with a failure or mal-
function notice to users.
While on their device, cus-
tomers can check out Kaths
redesigned website, www.
kathhvac.com, offering more
inquiry tools such as detailed
product information, educa-
tional videos, service request
forms and even a pre-financ-
ing evaluation.
Through Carrier, customers
can get zero percent financing
and other rebates. Customers
can also take comfort in
knowing that the friendly
office staff service coordina-
tor Rodney Johansen or office
manager Sue Tubman are
ready to help.
Tubman goes above and
beyond to ensure customers
get any rebates available to
them; she even fills out the
necessary paperwork so all
customers have to do is sign
on the dotted line.
If we offer a rebate, we
make sure our customers get
it, Tubman says.
Clients can also work with
sales representatives includ-
ing Hansen and Jim Manos to
learn about a 2013 federal tax
credit for installing a high-
efficiency furnace and air con-
ditioning unit. The once-in-a-
lifetime credit can be applied
retroactively according to the
system purchased.
Whether youre looking to
upgrade to a new system or
repair an old one, you can
always count on the staff at
Kath. Unlike other companies,
Kath does not subcontract
work. It has its own staff of
highly skilled technicians and
experienced sales representa-
tives.
Kath technicians are certi-
fied by the North American
Technician Excellence
Program and licensed with
Minneapolis and St. Paul com-
petency cards.
Employees always pull all
necessary permits for every
job, Williams says, taking that
burden off the homeowner,
as well as ensuring a high-
quality, code-compliant instal-
lation.
And dont feel abandoned
during a winter furnace out-
age. Kath provides 24-hour-a-
day service during the heating
season.
Kath Heating, Air
Conditioning and Electrical
is a division of Kath Fuel Oil
Service Co. Inc. Thanks to its
dedication to reliable products
and expert staff, the family-
owned company has remained
in business since 1944.
At Kath, 100 percent sat-
isfaction is guaranteed,
Williams says. We want abso-
lutely no unhappy custom-
ers.

A tuned-up furnace is a happy furnace, says longtime service
coordinator Rodney Johansen. Regular maintenance for furnace
and air systems isnt just a good idea its a money-saving must.
Cleaning and maintenance keep that system working effective-
ly and efficiently so your savings dont drop, Johansen explains.
Your furnace is a moving mechanical system just like your cars
engine.
Nobody buys a new car and then doesnt change the oil for
five years. Your car needs regular attention to be kept running in
top shape, and so do your homes heating and cooling systems.

W
hen Grandpa
remarks that he
would like his cre-
mation ashes scattered around his
northwoods property or under
a favorite tree he planted in his
backyard, grieving loved ones fre-
quently carry out his wishes with-
out pause.
Then, usually about the time they
decide to sell his now-empty house or
weekend retreat, regrets set in. The
family members realize someone else
will soon own the property, and their
access to Grandpas final resting place
will be permanently cut off.
At Roselawn Cemetery, super-
intendent Larry Hudella says this
sort of family heartache is becoming
increasingly common as more people
choose cremation.
What to do with a loved ones
ashes is a very personal decision, and
not one that should be made hastily,
Hudella says.
People often find they want a
place they can go to for that sense of
connection, Hudella says. Roselawn
Cemetery provides that place along
with the assurance of perpetual care.
Roselawn has more cremation
placement options than most other
cemeteries in the Twin Cities,
Hudella says. And with those options
comes a very affordable range of
prices, starting at under $600.
Options include:
Split Rock Garden, the cem-
eterys newest columbarium located
near the historic, Cass Gilbert-
designed Roselawn Chapel. Two
separate granite half-cylinders invite
visitors to walk around and between
them. A limestone wall is the back-
drop for a pond, gardens and sculp-
ture of two children and a turtle
fountain.
in-ground or niche placement in
the Garden of Remembrance, where
a wall of inscribed niches is tucked
into a serene, landscaped setting.
ossuary placement, with a spiral-
ing pathway leading visitors through
granite memorials to a column for
co-mingled ashes topped by a bronze
sphere.
placement in Roselawns mau-
soleum, where a bronze niche wall
said to be the largest in the world
depicts a lake scene from the
northwoods.
The niche doors on the columbari-
ums can be personalized with symbols
that reflect an individuals life.
In addition to the columbarium
options, the park-like cemetery has
plots for traditional burials and inter-
ment of ashes in the ground as well.
For headstones on burial graves,
we can customize them with images
that were especially significant; weve
done everything from a camper or a
motorcycle to an airplane. Another
popular option is engraving a photo
of the loved one on the stone.
Roselawn has been in operation
since 1902 and is open to visitors
year-round from sunrise to sunset.
The historic chapel is available to lot
owners for funerals and memorial ser-
vices at no charge.
We have no fences and operate
with the goal of benefiting the living
as well as the memory of the depart-
ed, Hudella adds.
People have the peace of mind of
knowing generations to come will
be able to visit their loved ones
remains.

Roselawn Cemetery: Offering peace of
mind in a garden setting
Because Roselawn Cemetery operates as a nonprofit association, the veteran staff is dedicated exclusively to service.
Seated are assistant superintendent Dave Geisbauer, left, and superintendent Larry Hudella. Standing, from the left are:
office manager Michele Lind, groundskeeper Tony Geisbauer and foreman Paul Gale.
Memorial Weekend remembrances at Roselawn
Make time Memorial Weekend to hear a concert by nationally-celebrat-
ed organist Barb Bang. Sunday, May 26th, 2013 the Honor Guard will have
an informative rifle salute: for further details, visit our Facebook page. On
Monday May 27th, 2013 the Roseville VFW, Rosetown American Legion
and North Suburban Chorus will have a program to honor our Veterans on
the Cemetery grounds. It will be an experience youll remember.
With a warm smile, Dr.
Vernon Kuznia welcomes you
into his inviting and comfort-
able office.
However, its not just his
personality that makes Mind &
Body Chiropractic Life Center
special.
Rather than paying a per visit
fee for an adjustment, as is the
industry norm, Dr. Kuznias
patients have the option of pur-
chasing a monthly membership.
Memberships are $67 for and
individual and $100 for a fam-
ily and include all visits for the
month.
When it comes to care, the
memberships allow people the
flexibility to get as much or as
little as they need, Dr. Kuznia
says. About 90 percent of my
patients have memberships and
the response has been very posi-
tive.
Because of his low-cost
membership policy, Dr. Kuznia
doesnt accept insurance.
I think sometimes people
can be taken aback by that at
first, he explains. But its
becoming more common in the
industry where insurance often
has co-pays, visit limits and
sometimes restrictions on doc-
tor choice.
When I explain to people
why we dont take insurance,
they recognize memberships
can be a more cost effective
way for them to get the most
care, Dr. Kuznia says.
Another unique component
to Mind & Body Chiropractic
Life Center is that no appoint-
ment is needed.
The first visit is scheduled
so the patient and I can get to
know each other, Dr. Kuznia
explains. After that they come
in as needed, no appointment
necessary. Its very conve-
nient.
A typical visit starts with a
warm-up exercise before Dr.
Kuznia begins the adjustment
and is followed by a cool down
exercise.
Often, the whole process
only takes about ten minutes,
Dr. Kuznia explains. I locate
misalignments in the spine,
correct them, and the patient
leaves the office feeling great.
Before going back to school
and then opening his prac-
tice two years ago, Dr. Kuznia
taught elementary school. He
sees quite a few children, and
finds his teaching experience
helps him in his practice.
Im able to speak to kids
and understand them while
explaining the procedure to
them, he explains. By their
second or third visit, kids come
running through the door
and jump up onto one of the
tables.
Because of his passion for
wellness, Dr. Kuznia says his
goals are simple.
I want to make regular chi-
ropractic care convenient and
affordable, he says, adding
that the improvements patients
feel keep them coming back.

The center offers a variety
of therapy services, enrichment
activities and even some feline
companionship through its pet
therapy program.
Lilly the cat has been a full-
time resident for five years. The
cuddly tabby enjoys the love and
attention she receives from resi-
dents as much as they like having
a friendly, furry visitor.
Lilly is just one example of the
many ways the health center pro-
motes wellness.
Better outcomes
The therapy department at
Benedictine Health Center at
Innsbruck offers short-stay and
outpatient therapy for those who
are recovering from an illness or
surgery.
Benedictines therapists pursue
Accelerated Care Plus ongo-
ing education and know the most
advanced techniques available.
Patients are pleasantly surprised
by the rapid progress they can
make with less pain.
New to Benedictine is the
mobility courtyard, which
is designed to help improve
patients abilities to walk on a
variety of surfaces. Both thera-
pists and their patients can be
confident they can perform tasks
such as walking to the mailbox,
opening car doors, walking up
stairs and ramps and taking care
of the lawn.
The center also offers integra-
tive care. This holistic approach
complements medical care by
supporting a persons natural
ability to heal. Aromatherapy,
healing music, healing touch and
comfort massage all help ease the
mind and body to promote faster
healing.
Those who intend to return
home can stay in the comfort-
able Transitional Care unit, with
private bedrooms and bathrooms.
Up to seven days a week, thera-
pists offer physical, occupational
and speech therapy.
Care for mind and body
Long-term Benedictine resi-
dents also benefit from the tech-
nology in the wellness center,
with therapy to help participants
reduce falls and improve balance
and overall health.
And Benedictine offers a wide
variety of options for seniors in
need of long-term care in three
homelike neighborhoods.
Amenities in the neighborhoods
include a beauty salon, dining
rooms, family areas with com-
puter workstations, and quiet
spaces for reading and relaxing.
Residents also benefit from
unique activities such as Artsy
Aging, which draws on memo-
ries and creativity as partici-
pants use motor skills and dex-
terity.
Another special approach is
Mneme therapy, a cutting-edge
whole-brain therapy which has
helped people with dementia,
Alzheimer s and other brain dis-
orders by engaging them with
storytelling, music and painting.
In the community
The Benedictine Health Center
collaborates with St. John the
Baptist Catholic Church in New
Brighton to help seniors who
are still independent. ABLE
Assisting Better Lives for Elders
offers in-home assessments
and can connect seniors with
volunteer home help, referrals
to health or other professional
services and, above all, choice in
how they extend their healthy,
active lives at home.
Community members can join
the Active4Life Club in the well-
ness center for a personalized fit-
ness plan.
So whether a person is look-
ing for a place to recuperate from
an injury, or a place to call home,
Benedictine Health Center at
Innsbruck can help meet all well-
ness needs.
Left, last year Benedictine Health Center at Innsbruck put the finishing touches on three new healing gardens. Along the paved walking paths that link the labyrinth,
butterfly and bird gardens, residents and visitors enjoy the peace and serenity of nature. Being outside helps the body heal more rapidly, decreases stress and lifts
your spirits, Development Director Nancy Burton explains. Right, therapists offer state-of-the-art HUR equipment designed to minimize joint stress while patients
increase their mobility. SmartCard technology monitors each patients progress and helps tailor plans to their specific needs.

Devoting himself to the
rare coin and precious
metal trade for well over
three decades, Westerlings
commitment to the cus-
tomer is second to none.
From their Roseville office,
he and his associates offer
purchases and appraisals
for estates, banks, insurance
companies and individuals.
My staff and I are dedi-
cated to helping people
preserve and grow their
wealth, Westerling
explains. Thats why The
Truman Company offers
personalized service tai-
lored to each individual.
Introduced to the busi-
ness by his Uncle Truman, a
young Roger became enam-
ored with coins. This near-
ly-lifelong passion encour-
aged Westerling to open
his own business under the
Truman name.
Every time he visited
my family, he gave me a
coin that had an interest-
ing history. His hope was
that I would develop a real
interest in rare and unusu-
al coins, and it worked,
Westerling says with a
smile.
Westerling visited
Minnesota to appraise a
collection in 1998, and was
so touched by the welcome
he received he decided to
move both his home and
business to St. Paul. He
currently works with about
3,000 clients around the
country.
Westerling is a life
member of the American
Numismatic Association
and holds an A+ rating
with the Better Business
Bureau.
His knowledge can reas-
sure people that theyre
insuring or pricing such
items correctly. Im more
than happy to visit a home
or bank to review a col-
lection, Westerling notes.
Theres a market for
everything!
Though old coins appre-
ciate gradually, precious
metals have undergone
dramatic spikes over the
past decade in value,
Westerling adds. From 2002
to 2013, the value of silver
went up by 668 percent and
gold by 595 percent. Many
of Westerlings customers
are currently transfer-
ring individual retirement
account funds from banks
to a precious metal IRA.
I honestly think the
prices for gold and sil-
ver will continue to rise
throughout our life-
time, while the U.S. dol-
lar declines, Westerling
explains. Transferring to
a precious metal IRA can
be an excellent invest-
ment.
Customers will feel
at home in The Truman
Company office, where
they might even meet
Westerlings pooch, Sonny,
and his wife, Donna, a
Twin Cities artist whose
work is featured through-
out the office.
Curious about the worth
of a personal collection?

his staff at The Truman

Roger Westerling was introduced to coins at a young age by his Uncle Truman, a numis-

Scandia Shores of Shoreview,

Bible study is a popular activity at Scandia Shores in Shoreview, and
just one of the many services offered through the chaplaincy program.
Weve all seen the wash me
message, usually scrawled by a kid
with his finger on a really, really
grimy vehicle window. And that
kid is right.
Road salt, dirt and grime, sap,
tar, bird droppings, what have you,
can eat away at your cars paint job
especially in Minnesota with its
combination of freezing and thaw-
ing.
And you dont even want to
know what your vehicles chassis
looks like underneath.
Practice makes Perfect
Perfect 10 Car Wash, located
in Spring Lake Park between Able
Street and Highway 65 just east of
Northtown on County Highway
10, will take care of your vehicle
like it has since 1989 when owner
Kevin Hanovers dad started the
operation.
More than two and a half mil-
lion vehicles have emerged out the
Perfect 10 door since then, look-
ing their best.
Hanover says Perfect 10 is dif-
ferent from gas station car washes,
where there are no people and
the tight enclosures are almost
eerie. At Perfect 10, employees
swarm, as one customer put
it outside and inside: ashtrays,
floor mats, litter bags, windows,
dashboard, even the side panels
stand no chance but to go clean.
And with the purchase of certain
washes you have the choice of four
different air freshener scents to
make your car smell fresh or new.
Perfect 10 is a full-service
operation providing bumper-to-
bumper service outside, inside
and underside. The full-service
wash provides a trained staff
assigned to relentlessly find those
hard-to-reach areas, flushing away
the road salt and then wiping the
vehicle down. And theres no
overcharge for complete vacu-
uming, removing sand, gravel and
road grit all the way into the backs
of vans and SUVs.
Hanover also believes in sup-
porting the local community, and
for the past decade has helped
several organizations, such as the
Confidence Learning Center, the
Community Emergency Assistance
Program, local youth sports teams
and senior organizations.

Y
ou could say Wendy
Kenneally comes by her
business, Midwest Data, by
both nature and nurture.
Kenneally purchased the bookkeep-
ing, accounting and payroll business
from her mother, Kay Weber, in 2005,
after Weber had operated it for 30 years.
Kenneally has also chalked up con-
siderable experience during her career,
including serving as chief financial offi-
cer for the St. Therese Senior Residence
in New Hope and traveling the country
as a financial software consultant for
businesses.
That expertise is now available to
businesses large and small, with the per-
sonal touch that makes the difference.
Our largest client employs about
700 people, and many have 10 to 15,
Kenneally says. We do everything from
payroll to general ledger to reconciling
banking and account statements and
year-end statements. But were flexible
enough that a client can call and ask
for a certain report and we can get it to
them the same day.
Even better, Midwest Data offers
very competitive rates for its services,
plus attention clients dont get from the
big operators.
My clients will tell you Im very
inquisitive about their businesses,
Kenneally says with a smile. Those
conversations often lead us to new ideas
and solutions tailored to their needs.
And, with seven employees and a
welcoming walk-in policy, Midwest
Datas clients are quickly on a first-
name basis -- with names that dont
change.
People whove worked with more
bureaucratic firms in the past love the
fact they can just work with one or two
people who know them and their busi-
ness, Kenneally says.
Currently, Kenneallys firm serves
a mix of construction businesses, res-
taurant franchisers, real-estate firms,
service businesses such as hair and nail
salons and many single proprietorships.
With Midwest Data, those owners and
managers can free up time and person-
nel to focus on their goals.
And business is looking good. What
I see is that every business we work with
is stronger and busier, Kenneally says.
They havent gotten back to pre-reces-
sion levels yet, but theres steady growth
to build on.
As they grow, those clients have the
confidence that while theyre doing
what they do best, Midwest Data is too.

With award-winning
writers, photographers and
designers, we have a news-
paper people want to pick
up and read, Fragnito says.
And with a readership
audited in the high 80th per-
centile, we know our adver-
tisers messages are getting
through.
Advertising representative
Samara Anderson agrees.
We strive to deliver the
news that our local readers
really care about, Anderson
says. And nobody offers
better local news coverage
than the Bulletin newspa-
pers.
That strong local news
coverage means businesses
that advertise with the
Bulletin see excellent results.
We provide our readers
with the news and features
they want to read, while our
advertisers let readers know
about the valuable products
and services they have to
offer, Anderson says.
I enjoy helping local
businesses connect with our
readers where they live,
work and play, she adds.
And though many busi-
nesses that advertise with
Lillie Suburban Newspapers
are locally owned and oper-
ated, Anderson says bigger
corporate clients realize the
benefits of advertising with
a weekly community news-
paper with a seven-day shelf
life.
Fragnito adds: Our read-
ers are using our papers to
find their grocery ads on a
weekly basis. They turn to us
again and again.
Lillie Suburban
Newspapers will be here for
the long term, co-publishers
Jeffery Enright and Ted H.
Lillie add. The pair are the
third generation in a family
business than began in 1938.
Our reporters, advertis-
ing representatives and man-
agers are familiar faces in
our communities, Enright
notes. People from the
newspaper are involved in
civic activities year-round,
from business associations
to development-planning
groups, and are doing every-
thing from moderating polit-
ical debates to helping build
floats.
Another benefit: the vari-
ety of services the newspa-
per offers, Enright notes.
We have a full-fledged
print shop and can produce
booklets, flyers, inserts, post
cards, door hangers, calen-
dars, raffle tickets, newslet-
ters, brochures, envelopes,
letterhead, invitations, busi-
ness cards and more, he
explains.
Installing high quality
digital equipment has recent-
ly allowed the company to
increase its four-color, sheet-
fed printing capabilities and
increase its color capacity.
We can produce our print
jobs faster and more afford-
ably for our customers,
Enright adds. We control
the process from beginning
to end, and we can now pro-
duce a higher quality four-
color or single-color digital
printing.
Lillie Suburban also prints
other niche newspapers,
such as school newspapers,
and best of all, whatever
product a client chooses,
their logos, art and copy
are all in-house, and they
talk directly with the person
responsible for making the
project happen, Fragnito
adds. We dont outsource
our design and we dont
have a huge bureaucracy to
work through. Our speedy
response time keeps the cli-
ent in charge of decision-
making.

Newspapers online at its
recently revamped website,

ite Lillie newspapers. Each

Grow your business with
Lillie Suburban Newspapers
Lillie Suburban Newspapers doesnt just give readers the inside
scoop on whats happening in their local communities. Its dedicated
team of advertising representatives strives to help businesses succeed.
H
undreds of busi-
nesses advertise
with Lillie Suburban
Newspapers regularly, says
advertising director Tony
Fragnito, and for good reason.
We strive to deliver the news that our local readers really care about, says
advertising representative Samara Anderson. And nobody offers better local
news coverage than the Bulletin newspapers.

No Money Down And
No Interest For One Full Year!
John Kopas and business partner
Tom Link have been spreading the
word, and now the million-plus
people who use consumer reviews on
Angies List also know Abbey Carpet
is tops.
The Super Service Award
Angies List bestowed upon Abbey
Carpet shows that its one of only 5
percent of companies rated nation-
wide that receives top marks from
customers.
This isnt anything we could
have applied for or pursued, Kopas
says. This all came from our cus-
tomers.
The Angies List rating follows
another from the nonprofit organiza-
tion Consumers Checkbook, which
also compiles customer reviews. In
Checkbooks listing, Abbey Carpet
in Mounds View posts a solid 100
percent satisfaction rate in overall
service compared to a metro-wide
average rating of 53 percent.
What difference does Abbeys
consulting expertise and trained
installation crew make?
You can find the same carpet
somewhere else, but the installation
is everything, Kopas says.
Hes backed up by Consumers
Checkbook, which warns homeown-
ers to check installers work for
wrinkles or ripples, gaps between
wall and carpet edge, unusually
conspicuous seams, irregular seams,
inconsistent shaping of carpet on
steps as well as glue stains and dam-
age to walls.
Poorly installed flooring can be
even worse and more expensive for
another contractor to correct. Wood
planks that shrink and gap, substan-
dard underlayment, cracking ceramic
and sloppy grout are just the begin-
ning.
People think theyre getting
a deal at big-box stores, but they
often regret having to live with the
results, Kopas says.
Although people may be able
to find their carpet and flooring
choice somewhere other than Kopas
store, it is hard to imagine them
doing so without a couple of weeks
and several tanks of gas. Abbeys
10,000-square-foot space showcases
nearly 50 carpet brands, over 20
wood-flooring brands and myriad
choices in tile, ceramic and stone
floors. From cork to teak wood,
plush shag to commercial carpet
and marble to slate, you can find
just what youre looking for. Abbey
Carpet also carries area rugs and
window treatments, so customers can
see for themselves theyve chosen
the perfect match.
And for those who dont arrive
with an idea of what kind of carpet
they desire, Abbey Carpet also pro-
vides experienced interior designers
who will visit your home. Its hard
sometimes for customers to decide,
Kopas states. With the thousands of
homes weve worked in, our design-
ers know what looks good and can
give customers that confidence.
Selection, quality and the willing-
ness to stand behind their work - its
all at Abbey Carpet.

Award-winning retailer
(ask us for details)
Longtime owner John Kopas
purchased his Abbey Carpet franchise
in 1973 and opened up shop in New
Brightons Brighton Village Shopping
Center. He operated out of New
Brighton for 30 years before moving
the business to Mounds View. Kopas
and business partner Tom Link,
who also has decades of experience,
continue to provide the same
excellent customer service.
At a corporate event in Anaheim,
Calif., Kopas was recently awarded
Abbey Carpet and Floor's prestigious
Lifetime Achievement Award the
only one ever given out.
Link says he was delighted when
Kopas received the award. It was
wonderful and he deserved it, Link
says. John is like a second father to
me.
For that reason, Ted committed to
using the highest quality parts and tires
to ensure when a car came to Brausens
Family Repair Centers to be fixed, it
stayed fixed.
It seems only right to Ted that
something you depend on and spend
as much time in should be maintained
at peak efficiency, especially in an
era when just filling up the gas tank
requires an investment in your vehicle.
We use only the top quality parts in
peoples cars, Ted says.
The quality commitment has paid
off for Brausens, both in terms of busi-
ness and also in its branches receiving
AAA Top Shop awards year after
year. Top Shop awards are given only
to facilities that score a 98 percent or
higher in customer satisfaction surveys.
Each AAA-approved entrant is evalu-
ated by its customers for business integ-
rity, professional standards, customer
service and community involvement.
Brausens also makes a point of hir-
ing Automotive Service Excellence-
certified master technicians. The ASE
certification is given to technicians
with years of experience and proven
skills with multiple automotive systems.
Three generations of Brausens
Brausens was founded in 1969 by
Teds father, Joe, with the first shop in
Arden Hills. When Joe later suffered a
heart attack, Ted was called on to man-
age the shop as a 17-year-old senior at
Mounds View High School. However
Ted learned quickly in his new role and
relied on his fathers motto: Do the
right thing.
The business has grown under Ted,
with a Roseville location added in
1984, a Blaine service center added
in 2003 and a second Blaine site
added last year. Blaine Tire and Auto
is a Goodyear Tire Center, while the
Arden Hills auto repair is a dealer of BF
Goodrich, Michelin and Uniroyal tires.
The family behind the business
has grown as well: Teds wife, Cheri
works in the office and handles the
companys bookkeeping, while their
son Jake works as a service manager at
the Arden Hills shop his grandfather
started more than 40 years ago.
Theyve also added a few others
to the family, albeit not all with the
Brausen name. Brausens is proud to
have several staff members with 20 or
more years of experience working for
the company, such as 26-year veteran
Mike Kelly, who manages the Roseville
location and Dave Isakson, who has
managed the Arden Hills location for
28 years.
By combining Kellys years of expe-
rience with Brausens state-of-the-art
computerized record keeping, Kelly has
an expanded view on each issue that
arises with a car and can help customers
prioritize repairs and provide written
estimates for future work.
Meeting the needs
Brausens now offers customers the
ability to schedule their appointments
on its website, www.brausenauto.com.
Customers can use the site to schedule
everything from oil changes to inten-
sive repairs on cars, trucks and SUVs
and receive a confirmed reservation
from a service technician.
While on the website, customers
who are curious about the staff who will
be working on their vehicles can find
information about the employees on
each location. Coupons for service are
available on the website as well.
Customers at the Arden Hills loca-
tion can also get a green clean for
their cars by using the state-of-the-art
touch free car wash. The equipment
uses specially designed equipment that
reduces water use while still providing a
thorough wash.
Brausens also recycles waste oil,
antifreeze, batteries, tires, lights and
other fluids at its repair centers.
Quality today and tomorrow
Staying ahead of the times while
still providing time-honored service to
customers are two of the highest priori-
ties for Brausens, whose customers now
span generations as well.
Ted knows that the same customers
will be coming back to him through
the remainder of his career and on into
Jakes after Teds retirement, and thats
just an added incentive to keep the
quality to the same high standards.
If friends of mine are going to be
driving with my parts, were going to
get the best ones money can buy, Ted
says.
Quality is key to
Brausens longtime success
F
or Ted Brausen, seeing
his name on the signs in
front of his auto shops
is a source of pride, but also a
reminder of the reputation he
stakes on every repair.

We like to treat every family as if
they were our very own, says Richard
Purcell, who owns the business with his
wife Sharon.
The funeral home staff also works with
families to offer reasonable pricing for
their services and recently received a top
ranking from the Twin Cities Consumer
Checkbook for disclosing cost to clients
early in their planning process.
The very best doesnt have to cost
you more, in fact, it will probably cost you
less, Purcell says.
Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell also
topped the charts with superior ratings in
the Twin Cities Consumer Checkbook
among funeral homes throughout the
metro area in overall performance,
proper service, pleasantness of staff and
providing advice on service options and
costs.
The fact that the funeral home
received such positive ratings across the
board is a testament to Holcomb-Henry-
Boom-Purcell offering a full range of ser-
vices from trusted professionals, starting
with the family who founded the business
in 1916.
The funeral home opened that year in
St. Paul and a second mortuary was built
in Shoreview in 1993.
Purcell says the staff includes licensed
morticians, who graduated from the
University of Minnesota with degrees in
mortuary science. Theyre committed to
helping customers with their funeral-
planning needs at affordable prices.
Clients can choose to have memo-
rial services and receptions honoring
their loved ones at either location and
Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell will
coordinate burial or cremation services as
well, Purcell adds.
The staff can also oversee all the
arrangements for funeral services at any
church in the area.
The funeral home has the technology
to accommodate the wishes of clients
who would like to remember their loved
ones with music, photographs or a video
tribute.
Purcell says past services have featured
everything from Dixieland bands to harp
solos to highlight their clients personal
memories of their loved ones.
We try to accommodate any request
a family makes to reflect, honor and cel-
ebrate their loved ones life, Purcell says.
Personalization is a big part of that.
In response to consumer demands,
Purcell adds that families choosing crema-
tion may opt to have a funeral or memorial
service with a viewing of their loved ones
body present, then the cremation can take
place after the service. This can be done at
the funeral home or at the familys church.
He finds this option is becoming more
common, especially when clients know
out-of-town relatives and friends will be
attending the service, Purcell says.
Most importantly, all the options for
clients to consider are available at one
location to provide them with ease and
comfort in an already difficult situation.
Many families are choosing to have
receptions at the funeral home so that
people can socialize and enjoy a catered
meal after the funeral or memorial service.
A list of professional caterers is available
upon request.
We try to be a resource for families as
far as being a place where they can gather
options, and then of course the decision is
ultimately the families to decide what type
of service they want and then we make
sure its carried through, Purcell says.

Our arrangements come in all shapes and sizes.
We believe a service should be as individual as the
individual. Thats why we respect the choice of cremation
as much as the choice of traditional burial. Whichever
you choose, your options are far from limited. In fact, both
allow for the same variety of services. No matter what
you preferences, you can count on us for choices.
