Benefit Concert: MUSIC WITH A PURPOSE! Senior Capstone Fall 2012 A.Perez Proposal I.

Introduction Since my middle school days I have been interested in music. At the age of 10, I receive my first guitar. The irony of this story is that I am left handed and since it was a little bit more expensive then the right handed one, we couldnt afford to buy it so we bought the right handed guitar. Even though I am left handed, I manage to learn to play guitar and strum with my right hand. I learned that you have to go beyond the box and overcome challenges. That was a huge challenge for me because everything felt opposite, but later on, I made the guitar my own. I am interested in creating a benefit concert to help children brighten up their day and make them feel special because I believe that music can be used for a purpose. Ive heard about big bands such as Green Day and U2 creating a big benefit concert to help for a cause and that how I was inspired to do a benefit concert. For the audience to enter the auditorium, they will have to donate one toy. One toy can make a child happy; it can make them realize that they are still in their childhood and no matter what condition their on. The challenge I will face in this project is overcoming my stress level. Having multiple Advance Placement classes can be very stressful. Managing time between classes and my band will be difficult because there are some days when the teacher gives us too much homework in a little time to finish it. My initial arguments will that student should come together and understand how important it is to help someone who is less fortunate and is in need of help. My capstone will address four Asia Society Leadership Performance Outcome categories-Investigating the World, Recognizing Perspectives, Communication Ideas and Taking Action. This Capstone will prepare me academically for college by giving me experience writing an in-dept research paper. It will help me to become a more effective user of information and technology because I will learn to use sophisticated research methods. The learning experience will help me in the future by becoming self motivated which is a skill I will need in college both inside and outside of the classroom. II. Learning Objectives

Form My Capstone project will take two forms. First will be a 6-8 page college level research paper with citations and a works cited page. Secondly, I will do a Benefit Concert around November 2012. I will present my findings from my research and learning experience to the Sharpstown International Community at my Presentation and Defense Learning at the end of the semester. In my 20 to 30 minute presentation I will defend my research argument and learning objectives. The audience will be Mr. Frank, classmates and the two bands that are performing for the event.

J. DETERMINATION The greatest obstacle I expect to encounter in doing this Capstone is managing my stress level while organizing the Benefit Concert. I also expect difficulty deciding when the event will be held. The first step I will take in launching my Capstone is to arrange a meeting schedule with my sponsor for the approval of my Capstone.
