The FM Group & Federico Mahora Fragrances

Although relatively new to the market, this firm can already claim to be the leaders in parfume. When Artur Trawiski registered FM GROUP POLAND in September 2004, success was already in the air literally because his own family (whom have a strong history in the perfume industry) invested into the perfumery. Beautiful fragrances were the perfect choice: thousands of people buy perfumes all over the world. Initially FM GROUP offered 50 elegant and lasting fragrances It, however, became apparent very quickly that its offerings needed to be increased today in its catalogue you can find over 150 of the most fascinating scents in the world including ones enriched with pheromones. A brilliant, fast selling product is not enough to succeed in this great and most demanding of markets. FM GROUP decided on exclusivity and smell a combination of these two factors allowed for creation of an ideal product. It is worth to mention here that most of the popular and widely used fragrances on the market are Eau de Toilette's with an average 6% of perfume added. FM Group products contain 20% perfume. Using essences of the most widely used producers in the world and releasing fragrances with high concentrations of perfume has given FM GROUP its renown not only amongst the lovers of beautiful fragrances but also amongst the most demanding of connoisseurs. Shortening of the sales pathway to the client using direct selling methods means that the advertising and distribution costs are reduced to a minimum. This allows FM Group products to maintain a very attractive unit price, which would be impossible to achieve with traditional sales methods. FM GROUP WORLD acts as a club offering its members the highest quality products at unrepeatably low prices. This is our greatest success and it is based on trust and collaboration and this is why in our firm special emphasis is placed on communication. The most important priority for us is full transparency of our activities and of our supply system for only this can guarantee us the full trust of our distributors and maintain our cooperation with them, explains Artur Trawiski. More than five years ago, when FM GROUP Poland was created, we used the name FM by Federico Mahora. Our aim for our brand was be associated with elegance and value. We wanted it to be of the highest rank, as it deserved to be. Since then FM Group managed to dominate almost the whole world. It is present in more than 50 countries on every continent. To emphasise this success we have decided to return to the name FM by Federico Mahora and we have assigned it to every perfume product of our company. FM fragrances are produced by Drom, one of the leading and most respected perfumery companies in the world today, with teams of international perfumers in Paris, Munich, New York and Sydney. Drom create fragrances for many other well famous recognisable brands, has over 100 years of tradition and expertise and is at the forefront of state-of-the-art technology and modern trends.

Do creativity and intelligent research represent clear competitive advantages? What is droms position on the contradictory trends toward natural cosmetics and toward genetically engineered materials? These questions and more are answered in a conversation with Dr. Ferdinand Storp, owner and CEO of drom fragrances international KG, based in Baierbrunn, Germany. Currently, drom fragrances is one of the few wholly independent family-owned companies that can hold its ground as a manufacturer in the fragrance industry. Alongside such industry giants as IFF, Firmenich, Symrise, and Givaudan, drom has established itself in the past ten years as one of the worlds leading fragrance producers. During that time the market situation was a source of great concern for Dr. Ferdinand Storp, the companys owner and CEO since 1995. "I wasnt sure whether we were positioned well enough to survive the tough competition against Bush Boake Allen and similar companies. Some, such as BBA, were taken over and vanished from the market." But Storp is certain that the mergers in the past few years have actually created the niche for small companies to grow. "We are a speed boat among steamers fast-moving and full of ideas." Storp believes that once the wave of mergers is over, three large fragrance manufacturers will carve up 80 percent of the world market among themselves. "That leaves enough market volume for ambitious and flexible companies like drom." Among fragrance manufacturers, drom fragrances is ranked eighth in the world. With its fifteen own companies and its representative offices, drom has a presence in forty-three countries. Three new production facilities were commissioned between 2004 and 2008, most recently in Brazil and in India, and capacities have been almost doubled. Output from five locations (Germany, the US, China, Brazil, and India) adds up to 40,000 tons annually, and the companys sales have increased by more than 70 percent since 2002. In 2007, with its roughly 400 employees drom generated sales of US$130 million. The strongest segment remains fine fragrances with a 34 percent share, but drom is also active in personal care (24 percent), home care (23 percent), hair care (16 percent) and other areas, such as multimedia and entertainment (3 percent). Creativity is essential In its worldwide corporate network, drom fragrances employs a greater proportion of creativeminded individuals than any of its competitors, and the company made further investments in this area in 2007. Every year, twenty-five renowned perfumers develop more than 50,000 fragrances. Storp is certain that "this high level of creative output is only possible in a corporate culture that is marked by openness and trust." He runs and organizes his company based on manageable units and a flat hierarchy. This high creative output gives drom a decisive advantage in a market that continuously seeks innovative and captivating fragrance variations. "The industry is becoming increasingly fragmented and is evolving much as the music industry did a few years ago. Consumers can and must choose from countless items that are rolled out to market at increasingly faster rates," says Storp. "As manufacturers, our job is to continuously create an immense yet unusual fragrance diversity." With a wealth of ideas and a flexible organization, drom is in a position to meet these challenges, and to identify market prospects early on and make the most of them. In 2007, the company introduced its absolutely natural, authentic pureganic oils as well as its patented distillation process, thereby setting a new standard in the development of essential oils. Using pure and very intense aromas, droms perfumers are now able to create entirely new fragrance experiences. At the same time, they are satisfying the current trend toward natural cosmetics and biologically safe products.

A History of Perfumes
IN THE BEGINNING WAS.... SMOKE Scents fascinated man since the dawn of history. In the beginning he could not control their elusiveness, but quite quickly he managed to learn how to create some fragrances. Scientists discovered that thousands of years ago on the sacrificial altars, our ancestors burnt aromatic resins and gums, so that the gods accepted their gifts and prayers along with clouds of fragrant smoke. In return, they counted on favours of the gods bought over by the beautiful smell. From these practices derives the name perfume from the Latin words per fumum, literally through smoke. Interestingly, some primitive tribes practised rubbing the body with animal fat. This was to ensure the protection against the cold, and apart from that, the skin acquired a specific, not always pleasant, scent. Well, the beginnings are sometimes difficult... DIVINE SCENTS In the antiquity, perfumes produced with natural resources as a basis were in the form of oils and lotions. Initially, the privilege of using fragrances was available only for kings and the wealthiest citizens, but soon the right to enjoy using scents was accessible to all the social classes. Unfortunately, the price of incense and perfume restricted their use. The amount that was to be paid was often as big as for gold or precious stones. Perfume was still linked with magic rituals and it was believed to have a divine origin. The Greeks thought that perfumes were created by goddess Aphrodite: her disloyal servant stole her secret recipes and gave them away to people. The Egyptians perceived somewhat different origins of perfume making. For them, the creator of the first perfumes was the god of wisdom Thot, known as the guardians of magi and doctors. Thot shared his secret knowledge of perfume with his priests. Only they had the right to produce fragrances and for this reason, they enjoyed great respect. Numerous stories about fragrances can be found not only in ancient mythologies, but also in the Old and New Testament. Queen Saba gave perfumes to King Salomon, and the Magi from the East to newborn Christ. Also sinful Mary Magdalene washed Christs feet, and then wiped them with her own hair and anointed them with fragrant oils. FRAGRANCE FOR BODY AND SOUL Now the only question that needs answering is what were perfumes used for in the ancient history? It turns out that the usage of fragrances differed in different parts of the ancient world. For example, in Egypt aromatic pomades were put on hair, and Assyrians perfumed their beards. Apparently Greeks had a habit of anointing every body part with a different oil after bath. The Romans were definitely the record holders in that field. They sprinkled perfume on almost everything, body, equipment, and animals, even sprayed their favourite smells in the air, and bathed in scented water. They could do that even a few times a day. In wealthy Roman houses, in a special room called unctuarium, beautiful slaves were waiting to perform relaxing massages and anointing the body with various fragrant oils. No wonder that soon, flood of protests appeared Plinius the Elder deemed lavish use of perfume by the patricians as being a blatant waste. Beautiful smells were also an integral part of religious rituals and funeral rites. Corpses of the dead were embalmed by aromatic substances in almost entire ancient world. In Greece and Egypt amphorae with perfume were put into the graves next to the deceased, as it was believed that aromas had healing properties. Sumerians had similar beliefs. They used essential oils in medicine 5,000 years ago. That was the beginning of the perfume-making branch known today as aromatherapy. What is more, perfumes since the ancient times belonged to the realm of love and eroticism. According to many sources, in Mesopotamia, fianc on the engagement day poured aromatic liquid over his future wife. Egyptian Queen Cleopatra before Caesars visits bathed in milk and rose petals, so that her body remained extraordinarily smooth and fragrant. Rumour has it that before the 44 ScentsForYou.co.uk

As you can see, it was a long time ago when it was discovered that a beautiful scent is the best aphrodisiac. PERFUME PROHIBITION Although today it is hard to believe, the usage of perfume was banned when Christianity was developing. The smell and attributes of perfume were deemed by Church as being too sensual and seductive. The tradition of creating different scent compositions survived thanks to Muslims. When Christianity forbade using perfumes, Koran was encouraging it. Muslims could use aromatic substances not only during religious rituals, but also enjoy them on the everyday basis. This is probably why we owe the first revolution in perfume production to them. At the beginning of 11th century Persian physician and chemist Awicenna (Ibn Sina) perfected the process of distillation. Thanks to that the production became more efficient. Despite Churchs ban on perfumes in the Middle Ages, their prestige was not affected. It was believed that scent is a domain of good people. This conviction was reinforced by many legends and hagiographies stating that some saints bodies (e.g. St. Alexiss) released a beautiful floral scent. In time, strict bans were loosened. In 12th century aromatic baths and mouth-washing with rose water were not forbidden anymore. THE TRIUMPHAL RETURN It took quite long before perfumes were again produced in Europe. But it was the Old World that took the milestone in this field. In 1370, Hungarian court alchemist created for Queen Elizabeth a special alcohol-based tonic, which is known as Hungarian Queens Water. This was a unique combination of lavender, marjoram, mint, orange flower and lemon aroma. Interestingly that tonic was successful not only as perfume but also as a medicine for various ailments. In 15th and 16th century perfume making was influenced by geographical discoveries. Vasco Da Gama, Christopher Columbus, Magellan and other famous travellers brought from America and India new resources of characteristic scents: cocoa, vanilla, Peruvian lotion, tobacco, pepper, cloves, cardamom, etc. At first, Italy excelled at perfume production, primarily because of trade with countries from the East, and later with the New World as well. It was 16th century Italy where chemical formulae began to supplant secretive alchemy. Distillation process was perfected even more. Moreover, in Venice perfumes were poured into beautiful and colourful glass bottles, which undoubtedly increased the value and price of perfumes. Along with the Florentine Medici dynasty, the knowledge of perfume production came to France after marrying Henry 2nd Catherine de Medici brought her court perfume makers to Paris. The most famous one was Renato Blanco (Rene le Florentin), who taught French craftsmen the art of perfume accessories production. Recipes according to which he prepared fragrances (and poisons) for the Queen were closely guarded secrets and to prevent them from being stolen, Rene le Florentins laboratory was joined with royal chambers by a secret passage. UPS AND TEMPORARY DOWNS In Great Britain perfume making was developed thanks to Elizabeth 1st. Historians report that the Queen encouraged her subjects to experiments in this field and that she introduced fashion for scented gloves (records say that when Elizabeth received a pair as a gift from Earl of Oxford, all the ladies-in-waiting spent fortunes in order to have the same fragrant treasure). Perfume making in Britain went through a temporary crisis along with the revolution in 1640-60s when the Puritans banned production and using perfumes. A breakthrough came along with restoration of the monarchy and Charles 2nds accession to the throne. Perfume madness began for good in 17th centurys France. Certain odours were sprinkled over everything. Not only clothes, but also equipment and rooms. The main centre of perfume making was Paris, and Versailles was called the best smelling court in Europe. perfume industry was briefly interrupted by the French Revolution. However in Napoleonic times, France returned to the manufacture and use of perfume. CHEMICAL REVOLUTION The real revolution in perfume-production occurred in 19th century. Thanks to fast progress of chemistry, some natural resources that previously were expensive and hard to obtain (e.g. musk), were now replaced by substances created in the process of chemical synthesis. This solution caused the fall of perfumes prices and enlarged the group of people dealing with creating the fragrances. The names of Ernest Daltrof, Francois Coty, Ernest Beaux, Jacques Guerlain and Edmond Roudnitski became legendary. The end of 19th century linked fragrances to the world of fashion. Famous fashion designers such as Paul Poiret or Coco Chanel discovered that their clients can wear not only beautiful textiles but also beautiful fragrances. Nowadays, almost every fashion house has a set of fragrances with their names on them. PHEROMONES A NEW CHAPTER IN PERFUME HISTORY Another breakthrough in perfume history is pheromones. These volatile chemical substances are responsible for non-verbal communication, e.g. attracting the opposite sex. For years it was believed that humans on the contrary to insects and some rodents do not excrete pheromones, but latest research proves otherwise. The hypothesis was formed that pheromones can be found in human sweat. Regardless of the results of the research, a bit of artificially produced pheromones can be added to certain perfumes in order to enhance their stimulant effect. DREAMS CLOSED IN A FRAGRANT DROP Nowadays we can talk about the whole perfume industry. Thousands of people work all over the world so that we could sprinkle ourselves with our favourite perfumes. These people are gatherers of flowers, seekers of new fragrance notes, chemists, creators (the so-called noses), marketing specialists and distributors. Scientists, and especially psychologists, engaged in fragrances and their attributes. They prepare tests thanks to which we can choose perfumes that suit our personality and lifestyle. Research regarding natural medicine (determining the influence of smell on our mood) and marketing (aromarketing) is also very interesting. The most important thing however is that over the years perfumes did not lose anything that makes them so special. Though we use them everyday, they remain mysterious and rather magical...

Parfum vs Perfume
Perfume, Parfum, Eau de Parfum, Eau du Cologne are names that we use interchangeably in colloquial speech. We often do not realise however, that there is a fundamental difference between them... Perfumes is a generic term for an extract containing fragrant substances dissolved in alcohol. Parfums extract containing 16% to 30% of fragrance composition. Eau de Parfum (EDP) extract containing less fragrant substances than parfum. It is estimated that EDP contains from 8% to 16% of fragrance composition. The aroma is dissolved in 85% spirit. Eau de Toilette (EDT) extract containing from 4% to 8% fragrance composition dissolved in 80% spirit. Eau de Cologne (EDC) extract containing from 3% to 5% fragrant oils dissolved in 70% spirit. Eau frache (refreshing water) a delicate fragrant water containing from 1% to 3% fragrance composition. Parfums are the strongest and the longest-lasting of them all, therefore they are the most expensive. Using Perfumes
What you smell like should be largely determined by the season. In summer gentle and refreshing eau du toilets will be the best and in winter stronger compositions (e.g. intense oriental or flower fragrances). At work, delicate floral-water or floral-fruit fragrances will be the best. For the evening, more intensive scents will be suitable. With sport outfit, you can wear lively citrus notes. The amount of perfume you are wearing influences how we are perceived by others. Remember that not everybody will like your smell so try not to wear too much of your perfume, especially when you are going to work. When going to your dream date, use perfumes with the addition of pheromones they will help you feel confident and sexy. It happens more often that women wear men's fragrances. It is by all means acceptable. Moreover, many companies offer unisex perfume which are suitable both for men and women. Do not mix fragrances with one another. Mixing smells will do you no good. Try to choose your cosmetics in a way that their scents are similar. To achieve the perfect harmony, choose products with exactly the same fragrances (e.g. perfumes, body lotion, shower gel, hand cream, and for men eau du toilet, roll-on and aftershave). The best place to spray your perfume is where you can feel your blood pulsating for example wrist, neck and nape. Feel free however to sprinkle your perfume over your clothes. A good way to smell more delicate is to spray a cloud of perfume in the air and then walk into it. This method works best when the composition is very intensive. If you want your hair to smell lovely do not spray it with regular perfume. Choose a special hair fragrance or else your hair will become dry or sticky. Hair fragrance will make your hair look and smell beautiful. Do not rub perfumes into the skin. Doing that may irritate your epidermis without achieving the expected results. If you want your skin to look smooth and smell beautiful, use a perfumed body lotion. If you use the same smell for a longer period of time, you will stop smelling it. Our olfactory receptors will get used to it by then. You should change your perfume then. If you want to give someone perfumes as a present, make sure that they will like it (discretely ask their relatives or check their dressing table). Do not buy something that only you like. After all, you want to give somebody pleasure, not to cause them trouble...

FOUGERE Your natural beauty Fern and lavender, complemented by numerous other components, such as oak moss, fresh herbs or courmarin, create a very intriguing fragrance family- fougere, whose name derives from French word meaning fern. The history of this group dates back to 19th century that was when the first fragrance of this family was created: Fougere Royale (Royal Fern). Due to the composition Fourgere is divided into two subgroups. The first one is dominated by lavender and the second one by fern. CHYPRE Deep aroma of the South Unique composition of wood, ground-herbal patchouli aroma, aromatic oil of bergamot, cedar oil, castoreum and other components, create a highly valued and popular fragrance family of CHYPRE. The name of that group derives from the first perfumes: Chypre Coty, which were inspired by Francois Coty's memorable vacation spent in Cyprus in 1917. Fragrances that belong to that group are divided into three subfamilies: chypre-fruit, chypre-wood, and chypre-animal. CITRUS Summer all year round Fresh and juicy fruit such as lime, orange and bergamot create a very refreshing CITRUS family. It gives you an incredible boost of energy and stimulate you to action. These fragrances used to be created for men only, but currently they are recognised as a universal group. Depending on the composition the citrus family is divided into subgroups of lemon, mandarin, orange and bergamot. WO O D Discreet elegant charm Warm and rich notes of sandal or guaiacum wood, patchouli oils combined with a bit raw but refined aroma of cedar and vetiver, and also floral scents create an elegant and sophisticated fragrance family of WOOD. Some components of these scents, such as sweet, resinous, and slightly musky sandal wood, were already used as fragrances in antiquity. This family is divided into subgroups: floral, fruit, and patchouli based. FLORAL Emotions smell like flowers... On the one hand the most popular, on the other the most diverse. FLORAL family is a unique group which features not only various combinations but also intensity of the smell. Compositions of jasmine, rose, lilly of the valley, ylang-ylang flower, turberose, iris, violet and gardenia, create real flower bouquets suitable for most women. This family is divided into five subfamilies: floral-fruit, floral-oriental, floral-water, floral-green, and floral-aldehyde. ORIENTAL Indescribable power of sensual scents ORIENTAL perfumes are exotic, sensual and seductive compositions suitable mostly for women. This group is often reffered to as ambergris group and its name derives from Franois Coty's famous perfume - LAmbre Antique from 1905. Sweet notes of vanilla, spicy scent of cinnamon and fruity-spicy smell of cardamom make this group a classic and sharp fragrance. Fragrance Classifications
Reviewed by Luca Turin Ph.D. the 'Emperor of Scent' and the author of 'Parfums : Le Guide' In the remote past, when women were full of little secrets, they didn't so much choose a perfume as marry it. For the lucky ones, life was simple: a two- ounce bottle of Joy would last longer than the average lover, there were only three or four fragrance firms to worry about and everyone else appeared to be wearing Violettes de Toulouse. As for men, they asked their barber and walked home with Aqua Velva. Things have since got more interesting: there are now 400 new fragrance launches a year, and even the duty-free at Khabarovsk Airport tries to sell you things named after celebrities you've never heard of. Until recently, walking across the ground floor of a department store meant fending off painted creatures armed with sprays, furies in a fragrant circle of Hell. Then came the much-imitated Sephora, a chain of stores where you can smell in your own time, and everything became easy again. Everything, that is, except choosing. Fortunately, the human talent for classification has not been idle. The great German firm of Haarmann & Reimer, now renamed Symrise after merging with their arch-rivals Dragoco, produces a wonderful genealogy poster of fragrance. The vertical axis is time, starting with Fougre Royale in 1881, the horizontal is a spectrum of fragrances from floral to leather. That, of course, is the hard bit, because nobody agrees where things fit. The taxonomy committee of the Socit Technique des Parfumeurs de France spends agreeable hours each month in arcane discussions on the subject. Lately, this field has found its Linnaeus in Michael Edwards. A perfume lover of rare and erudite passion, he has developed the only classification scheme that actually works, and put together a superb book. How does it work? Suppose your mother judiciously wore K by Krizia in 1981. Look it up in the index, you will find that it belongs in the "Soft Florals" of which Chanel No 5 is the prototype. Once you have landed on that page, you see that it sits in the 'Crisp' column, one of four ranging from Fresh to Rich. Each contains dozens of perfumes with date of creation. Study this for a while and you can confidently stride into your local perfumery to demand Royalissime by Prince Henri d'Orlans before settling reluctantly for the (vastly superior) White Linen.

Demistifying fragrances from frontiermagazine.co.uk After 23 years of personally evaluating every new fragrance sample he has come across, Michael Edwards might be in possession of the worlds most finely-tuned nose. His olfactory gleanings can, as always, be found in the worlds most comprehensive guide to fragrances. It has been called the fragrance Bible, says Edwards, but like most good things, its evolution has been almost accidental. Accidental or not, the Fragrances of the World manual and the corresponding online database (www.fragrancesoftheworld.com), which classify fragrances into scent combinations and families, have been welcomed by suppliers and retailers alike. I was looking for a tool that would allow sales staff to find fragrances for their clients, explains Edwards. What I didnt realise is that if you do a guide for retailers, theyre going to say add this, add this, and so today the 2007 edition contains over 5,000 fragrances. The original book, which launched in 1984, featured little more than 500. With such an explosion in new fragrances, flankers and limited editions, it is no wonder that consumers, and retailers feel like their heads are swirling in a mist of eau de toilette. Fortunately, Edwards is here to demistify things. We can learn so much from wine it wasnt until the wine industry moved to a more sensible classification by cultivar so that you had the Rieslings here and the Sauvignon Blancs there, that it started to make sense for people, he points out. Fragrance ought to be a pleasure, not a problem, and so I think the fragrance families are enormously helpful. Edwards and his team deconstruct fragrances and place them on the fragrance wheel according to the composition of notes. Traditional perfumers have used fragrance families, like orientals and florals, for years, but Edwards has adapted the categories to include the Fresh notes, which include citrus, green and water notes. Fragrances of the World has also dispensed with the technical jargon of perfumers to produce a more user-friendly guide for retailers, with the aim of encouraging sales. The problem is that retailers lose fragrance sales all the time because their staff are asked for fragrances theyve never heard of and they dont stock, and they wouldnt know what to suggest thats in the same direction, Edwards explains. One of the aims of the book, then, and the even more comprehensive subscriber database, is to encourage customers to buy a second perfume. Most of us know what we want to buy when we get to the airport we tend to buy our favourite fragrances, and if were looking for a gift for someone we tend to buy their favourite fragrances, or something thats fairly innocuous. So how do retailers develop sales in the perfume category? By knowing your woody orientals from your soft florals, says Edwards. The fact is its very easy to sell one fragrancethe challenge is to persuade the customer while theyre in the shop to buy a second fragrance for themselves. There are a number of astute retailers around the world who are realising the value of Edwards classification system. As well as domestic market giants like Nordstroms and Sephora, travel retailers like World Duty Free (which has recently completed its online fragrance finder) and The Nuance Group have been seeking the help of Edwards and his team of experts.

Round The Fragrance Wheel by Michael Edwards

We start our exploration of the Wheel with the Citrus family, which captures the zest, and vibrancy that we so often associate with citrus fruit. This family also permits a glimpse into perfume history, as the gradual addition of more complex citrus and herbal notes has elevated scents in this family beyond the realm of lightly scented waters and into real Citrus fragrances. Layer the structure of the Citrus family with green notes reminiscent of crushed leaves and stems and you end up with fragrances from the Green family. Their elegant form and spirited character make this family fascinating. Modern green accords lend a radiant and effervescent quality to the Green family. The Water family is characterized by marine and aquatic notes. If the Green family is marked by an assertive quality, the Water family offers the lively freshness of air after a thunderstorm as well as the purity of sea air. The most popular of all families, the Floral family captures a wide range of fragrances, from crystalline etudes devoted to a single flower to complex symphonies capturing lush bouquets. By adding the effervescent sparkle of aldehydes (aroma-materials naturally found in citrus and rose oils), as well as the velvety softness of iris or vanilla, the Florals become Soft Florals. The freshness of the blooming flowers is now rendered more impressionistic and abstract, taking familiar scents into a new realm. In turn, Soft Florals are transformed into Floral Orientals by the presence of sweet spices and orange blossom. These notes make the compositions richer and deeper. When the voluptuous warmth of amber and incense is added to Floral Oriental fragrances, we reach the Soft Oriental family. The fragrances in this family smolder rather than glitter. Their character is velvety and warm, deeper than that of Floral Orientals, although not as sweet and heavy as that of Orientals. Exotic and evocative, the Oriental family plays upon sensual oriental resins, sumptuously rich flowers, warm vanilla and plush musks. Dramatic and complex, the fragrances in this family have an unforgettable aura. The marriage between the spicy and resinous notes of the Oriental family with notes of sandalwood and patchouli produce the Woody Oriental family. Woods play the dominant role here, with the characteristic Oriental notes lending an opulent touch. The Woods family brings the woody notes into the limelight. They are the divas that take the center stage in this family, with other notes serving merely as accents. Oakmoss and amber, along with citrus, floral, woody and musky notes make for one of the most complex fragrance families, Mossy Woods. The fragrances in this family have a character that is polished and undeniably sensual, dramatic and restrained, warm and cool. These juxtapositions make the Mossy Woods family quite striking. Cedar, tobacco, burnt wood and leather give the Mossy Woods family a new form, that of Dry Woods. With the more assertive notes playing the important role, the family's character changes to become deeper, drier and more somber. The floral accent of lavender gives a special character to the vivid Aromatic Fougere family. A universal family, it also includes elements of the spicy sweetness of a Floral Oriental, the ambery richness of an Oriental, and the Mossy Wood notes of oakmoss and sandalwood. The addition of citrus notes is an important one, as the tartness lends a special radiance and effervescence. Identifying Favourite Fragrance Families

We often have problems knowing which FM fragrance to suggest to a customer and with 150 fragrances in our range, anyone can end up confused. This booklet and its companion are aimed at helping with those suggestions. Now colours can be specified by percentages of only 3 colours and there are colour wheels to make it easier to choose colours. A small change in the percentages of a colour will move it round the wheel to the next sector. Perfumes have hundreds of possible ingredients and billions of different combinations, but we also have a Fragrance Wheel to show the relationship between fragrances. Again just a small change to the fragrance will move it round the wheel into the next sector The Fragrance Wheel, first devised by Michael Edwards in 1983, is used by industry professionals to advise their customers what perfumes might be suitable for them. It is a classification standard for perfumes which splits the range into families and subgroups and can be used to identify alternative fragrances that might suit the customers requirements. If the customer knows the fragrance wheel classifications, Step 1 can be ignored, but be beware, many customers know the names of the Classical Families which are not the same as the Fragrance Wheel Families.
Step 1
Ask the customer for the name of some of their favourite fragrances and check the list in this booklet to see if we can identifly their favourite Fragrance Families.
Step 2
Check the Selecting an FM Fragrance booklet for an FM fragrance in the same families and subgroups. Adjacent families and subgroups can be a possible alternative.
Step 3
Now select those FM fragrances to give to the customer to try. I give them a sample card for each sample, with the name, family, description and price. Notes 1. All our fragrances are originals, created by Drom, one of the worlds top perfume oil manufacturers and bottled and packaged by Parfand for the FM Group 2. The Classical Fragrance Family Groups, as shown in the back of the Perfumes catalogue are not the same as the fragrance wheel family groups. Do not try to mix the groups. 3. Different perfume authorities often have different ideas about which fragrance should be in which group. The lists here are not claimed to be definitive, and should be used as a guide only. The ultimate judge must be the customer, so ask them to try your samples and decide for themselves.

Selecting FM Fragrances from Fragrance Groups

We often have problems knowing which FM fragrance to suggest to a customer and with 150 fragrances in our range, anyone can end up confused. This booklet and its companion are aimed at helping with those suggestions. The fragrance wheel, devised by Michael Edwards in 1983, is used by industry professionals to advise their customers what perfumes might be suitable for them. It is a classification standard for perfumes which splits the range into families and subgroups and can be used to identify alternative fragrances that might suit the customers requirements. If the customer does not know the fragrance wheel classifications, ask them for their favourite high street perfume and look it up in the Identifying Favourite Fragrance Families booklet
Step 1
Look in this booklet for the Customers favourite family and subgroups. Adjacent families and subgroups can be a possible alternative.
Step 2
Now select the FM fragrances in that Family and subgroup to give to the customer to try. I give them a sample card for each sample, with the name, family, description and price. Notes 1. All our fragrances are originals, created by Drom, one of the worlds top perfume oil manufacturers and bottled and packaged by Parfand for the FM Group 2. The Classical Fragrance Family Groups, as shown in the back of the Perfumes catalogue, are not the same as the fragrance wheel family groups. Do not try to mix the groups. 3. Different perfume authorities often have different ideas about which fragrance should be in which group. The lists here are not claimed to be definitive, and should be used as a guide only. The ultimate judge must be the customer, so ask them to try your samples and decide for themselves. 4. Codes ending in 0 are provisional, we are not yet sure of the full classification of these perfumes. 5. Although our fragrances are labelled Men or Women, fragrances have no gender so dont worry about offering a mens fragrance to a woman and vice versa. Let the customer decide which is right for them.

1: Are FM perfumes copies of High Street Brands?
Short Answer: No. Back to Basics. A perfume is a mixture of ingredients that gives off a pleasantly scented vapour. If its not pleasantly scented, we dont call it a perfume. We smell that vapour as a fragrance. That fragrance will smell differently from the bottle than it will from the skin of the user. The perfume is unique and can be analysed and copyrighted. The fragrance, which is an individual perception is not unique and can only be categorised. Thats why two quite different perfumes can have the same or very similar fragrance. The German firm Drom Fragrances, who make perfume oils for us, are one of the top 10 perfume manufacturers in the world and unlike the other manufacturers on that Top 10 list, they only make perfumes. They also make perfume oils for companies like LOreal which owns 23 High Street Perfume Brands. Drom has branches in China, South America, USA, India and Europe and creates 50,000 new perfumes each year. The FM group chooses 20-30 new perfume oils each year, has them bottled by Perfand in Poland, and sells them only to FM distributors in 60 countries all over the world. LOreal and the other perfume houses buy from manufacturers like DROM and pay for very expensive marketing of their New Brand Name Perfume for 2011. FM distributors offer their customers a sample of the perfume to try at home because we know that our customers have found that a tester in a perfume counter can smell quite different from the fragrance from that brand when you get it home. So, while there are potentially billions of different perfumes, most of them not discovered yet, there are only thousands of different fragrances. And one of our perfumes might smell like your favourite high street brand, but it is a different perfume and not a copy.

2: With over 160 perfumes in the FM range, how do I know which ones to try.
Several different ways, and at only 50p a sample, you can have fun trying them all. 1:Read the description in the perfume catalogue. Like the sound of it? Ask for a sample. 2:Use our Horoscope selector. See what the stars say is your special fragrance. 3:Use our lifestyle selector at the back of the perfume catalogue. Match your mood, personality, the occasion, etc. 4:Select an FM perfume from your favourite Classical Fragrance Family and Subgroup listings at the back of the catalogue. 5:Use the Fragrance Finder. http://scentsforyou.co.uk/doc/FragranceFinder.xls It asks for your favourite perfume, looks up its categorisation on the Fragrance Wheel, and shows you which FM perfumes come from the same families and subgroups. Most FM distributors carry a complete set of perfume samples, talk to them and try some of their samples and you can eliminate any obvious no-nos without buying the sample. But remember a no-no to you might be a must have for someone else. My story:- My sister has the same tastes as Marilyn Monroe. Every time a member of the family went abroad, they were commissioned to bring back a bottle from the duty free at about 80 a time. And of course she had to use it sparingly. I looked up her perfume on the Fragrance Finder, sent her samples of the closest match, and she tried them. One smelt exactly the same so she tried a long term test, her perfume on one wrist and ours on the other. Ours lasted just as long and was the same strength. But ours cost 12 for a 30ml bottle. Hers cost 140 for 30ml at the duty-free. So she can now use her favourite fragrance as often as she wants without feeling guilty about the cost. And it also came as a shower gel and body lotion. And of course most ladies have more than one favourite perfume and match them to mood, occasion, etc. So she has been trying her other favourite perfumes and finding equivalents from our range. She is very happy to be saving money and using her favourite fragrances whenever she wishes.

3:Are FM products Pure, Natural, Organic and not Stuffed Full of Chemicals
The FM Groups buys all its perfumes from Drom. In 2007, the company introduced its absolutely natural, authentic pureganic oils as well as its patented distillation process, thereby setting a new standard in the development of essential oils. Using pure and very intense aromas, droms perfumers are now able to create entirely new fragrance experiences. At the same time, they are satisfying the current trend toward natural cosmetics and biologically safe products. And although everything is stuffed with chemicals as atoms, the building blocks of all substances, are chemicals, our products are as pure as Drom can make them. My story:- Several years ago I became allergic to my deodorant, it brought me out in a rash. I tried changing deodorants, but I was allergic to all the high street brands I tried. The only thing that worked was the pure alum crystal anti-perspirants. But Im not allergic to the FM deodorants. And Ive heard similar stories from people allergic to perfumes, ours seempurer and less likely to cause problems. But the only way to be sure is to ask for a sample and try it yourself.
Someone says 14 smells just like deep red and someone else says it smells like euphoria. Which one is right.
There are over 9,000 brand name perfumes listed in the Perfume Bible. All are different chemically, and computerised 'noses' as used in CSI, etc can distinguish between them all. But we can't. The top expert, who makes a living categorising perfumes says he can distinguish between about 3,000 perfumes. So 6,000 branded perfumes smell like other perfumes to him. My wife says I've got a tin nose and can probably distinguish about 30 smells, so 8,970 perfumes smell like other perfumes to me. And your customer is somewhere between. So if someone says 14 smells like deep red and someone else says no, it smells like euphoria, they are both right. And that's what the Fragrance Wheel is based on, It categorises all 9,000 perfumes into about 500 groups of perfumes that smell like each other, and perfume consultants, like us, can find out what groups the customer likes and offer them perfumes from their range that are from the same group. Your next customer might have a supernose or a tinnose, so you can't predict what they will like. So say something like "If you like that fragrance I think you will love one of these, and offer them 3 of our FM fragrances from the same group to try. The Consultants mini-kit is designed to help you choose which perfumes to offer. And Drom produce about 50,000 perfumes a year, so 47,000 smell like other perfumes to the top experts. Drom can guarantee to each customer that their perfume is unique and will not be sold to anyone else. It's our fault if we can't tell the difference, bloodhounds and CSI can<g>

I have had some interest from someone in the USA who would like to join. I was wondering if this was ok ... if so how do I go about signing them up ?
Just fill in the form as normal, with your name & number under sponsor, but put in USA in the box where they ask where you will be buying your products. If you do it on the UKFM site or by post to the UK Head office, they send the application to head office in poland, who then send it out to the US. The reason is that every country has different tax and import rules and often different catalogues and the US office knows all this and will send out their welcome letter, etc. Another way to register is to go to the US website, you'll find the address on the UKFM site under world, and fill in the application form there with your Distributor number and name. You'll still be the sponsor, but you will see any differences in the application form there. You can log onto the US site with your name & password as you would on the UK site. As an example the US doesn't do the mini starter kits, only the full kits, and our 'preferred customer over there is a 'free member'
A customer told me their favourite perfume and when I looked up the fragrance group, there were 15 of our perfumes. Which one should I suggest they try.
The biggest perfume group for us is Floral Citrus Fruity Crisp and we have 15 FM perfumes in that group as you will see from Selecting FM Perfumes. So how do you choose what to offer the customer when there are so many to choose from? First you look at the group and see what samples you have in stock. If you've only got 3 or 4, offer them all for the customer to try. If you've more, save time and offer them any of the 15 that are on the WOW list or the top 10 lists. In this case we get FM33. Lots of people like it so your customer might. Pick the others at random, the customer will tell you if your getting close. And look at the selecting FM Perfumes list and see if there is a richer version, a Floral Citrus Fruity Classic or Rich. Doesn't work in this case, but a useful aid to making a sale. And never say anything like "This smells just like XXX" even if everyone else thinks it does. What you are trying to match is the customers memory of what they think XXX smells like. If they say "No, I don't think so", you've lost your credibility even though you are right. Say something like "If you like that, I think you'll love one of these" and let them choose which they would like. And if they can't decide, sell them the samples to try at home. I charge 50p each, or you could charge 1 and offer them 1 off when they buy a bottle.
