There are many ways Kundalini Yoga can help someone who wants to stop smoking. Smoking, as with all addictions, is a habitual behavior thats ingrained into the users consciousness over time. So how can Kundalini Yoga help you stop smoking? Sadhana Start by committing to a daily sadhana practice, which is an exercise in self victory. In Kundalini Yoga we learn it takes 40 days to build the rhythm of a habit in our body and mind. This means it takes 40 days of constant practice to break a habit and 90 days to establish a new habit in our actions and in the subconscious. There are some glorious sadhana music to support and inspire you in your daily practice such as Sadhana in the City by Sat Darshan Singh and the Kirtan Caravan. Or Nirinjan Kaurs Aquarian which is beautiful.

Prana Practices Include kriyas that incorporate breath practices into your sadhana as it will help you strengthen your lungs and curb the smoking habit. A good kriya to try is the Self-care Breath Kriya. This kriya increases your inner energy and strength while boosting the immune system, and cleanses the body. Start by sitting comfortably in easy pose. Then open the mouth and form a circle that is tight and precisea boar's mouth. Place your hands crossed over the Heart Centre, right hand over left. Close your eyes and sense the area under your palms. Breathe a steady, powerful Cannon Breath through the mouth. Let your mind focus on the mouth ring and shape the breath into a ring. Continue for five minutes. Finish by inhaling and holding the breath. Relax the mouth. Mentally repeat: I am beautiful, I am innocent, I am innocent, I am beautiful. Exhale through the nose. Do this a total of five times. Then relax. For more breathing exercises, refer to Yogi Bhajans Praana, Praanee, Praanayam as a great resource to fill your body with healing prana. The benefits of prana exercises are stimulating the bodys circulation and strengthening the immune system so that the desire to smoke will lessen over time. If you are a smoker and find breathing practices hard, start slow with one minute intervals then gradually build up to three minutes as you feel stronger about your progress.
Praana Praanee Praanayam by Harijot Kaur Khalsa Meditation The "Medical Meditation for Habituation" in the manual "Relax and Renew" works on the Pineal Gland to help regulate the Pituitary Gland. This meditation can help with addictions to nicotine, as well as caffeine, sugar, and alcohol. Sit with a straight spine, particularly focusing on extending the lower 6 vertebrae forward. Make fists of the hands, and place the thumbs straight out against the temples. Lock your molars together and clench them rhythmically, feeling the pressure in the thumbs. Mentally chant Sa Ta Na Ma while concentrating on the 3rd eye. Start with 3-7 minutes, gradually building to 20-31 minutes. To finish, place the hands in Gyan Mudra and chant "Aad Gurey Nameh" 3 times.
