TOO MUCH CHRONIC PAIN

If you venture into my personal training studio, youll often hear me say things like

Working at a desk is more damaging to your body than manual labor.

Im very serious when I say this to my clients. Our bodies were designed to move all day long, to work, walk, run, climb, and bend. We were not designed to sit. Yet our modern environment provides us lots of sitting and almost no movement. Hi, Im Chris Janke-Bueno, and Ive spent the last decade designing tness programs to help people get out of pain. At rst glance, that sounds backwards. Many people actually get injured during their tness program. I can assure you that there is no reason for injury in a tness program, and in fact, a balanced tness program can help eliminate many forms of chronic injury.

WHAT IS CHRONIC PAIN COSTING YOUR COMPANY?

Inefciency Lost work days, missing members of the team, and compromises to the system all add up to inefciency in a business that suffers from chronic pain. Low Morale Movement makes people happy. Stagnation, sedentary work, and pain all rob us of our natural happiness. An unhappy employee is not effective.

Sitting is not going away, and neither is the bodys need for movement.

So what do we do?

Any xed posture, no matter how closely it approaches the optimal, will generate muscle fatigue Marvin Dainoff, Center for Ergonomic Research at Miami University of Ohio

ERGONOMICS IS GREAT, BUT

Our bodies need to move to stay pain-free. When we deliberately set up our workouts to create a balanced, aligned body, then we can gain the benets of movement and function in our ofce environment without pain. The other option is doing nothing. If we do nothing, we continue to walk down the path of weakness, bad posture, pain, and expensive medical treatment.

THE GOAL

MOVE IT OR LOSE IT

8 out of 10 Americans have chronic back pain Approximately 5% of people with back pain disability account for 75% of the costs associated with low back pain Approximately 2% of the U.S. work force is compensated for back injuries each year Most cases of back pain are mechanicalmeaning they are not caused by serious conditions, such as inammatory arthritis, infection, fracture or cancer. They are caused by lack of proper movement.

EVOLUTION AND THE RE-EVOLUTION

Our bodies evolved on movement. Now we dont have to move like we did. We are done evolving, and now need to re-evolve to something better. By understanding what movements our bodies need in order to stay healthy, My Core Balance can create custom programs to keep employees out of pain. We can determine what movement a person needs, and then design an efcient program to keep that person pain-free and productive. By the time an employee gets injured, its too late to recovery the cost of medical treatment. The time to act is before a problem arises. Its easy to re-balance the body with simple exercises before there is acute pain.

PREVENTION COSTS PENNIES, CURES COST DOLLARS

Businesses are losing millions of dollars from their bottom line because of medical payments, lost work days, and decreased employee morale. In 2007, costs for spine treatment averaged about $1500-$1600 per person. The Journal of the American Medical Association survey found that total expenditures for neck and back care increased by a whopping 65% between 1997 and 2005. But the survey found no corresponding increase in health improvements.

A persons posture can tell us exactly whats going on in their body. Based on a posture assessment we can determine which exercises they need to stay healthy and pain-free.

POSTURE

We begin to answer this question by doing a thorough analysis of your companys current position. How many employees exercise? Those that do, are they exercising in a balanced way? Those that dont, what will it take to get them to begin one? What are the specic exercises that each individual needs? These are all questions that we use to assess your current position, so we can make recommendations for improvement. To help you achieve a pain-free workplace, well use a combination of strategies. One-on-one posture assessments, group classes, and online memberships are all options that can help your employees achieve this goal. We set up a combination of services to suit your company to create the most cost-effective solution. Call today for a comprehensive Needs Analysis for your company
