Fitness Club layout and design overview This document serves as guidance for design, layout and use of materials for Jatomi Fitness Clubs. For layout flow and special relationships please refer to the functional bubble diagram. Entrance Clear signage, large and prominent position on the exterior, this can be illuminated. Wide entrance with quality spec of finish using wood, glazing and wall design. Hard wearing floor in hypoxy or tile. Well illuminated and welcoming, view of club should be seen from the entrance. Turnstiles linked to local server and members info displayed on reception screens. One entrance and one exit turnstile with a glass disabled and delivery gate attached. Where possible use floor lighting. Reception Reception designed in a way that Receptionist faces entrance, curved finish that leads Members into the gym through turnstiles. Enough space should be provided each side of the turnstile to allow for queries in and out of the club. Preferably a side area where a member can be taken to discuss a payment query would be ideal where space allows. Two computer screen areas slightly recessed into the desk so as not to create a barrier between the receptionist and the member. One computer located at the turnstile (Access computer) another located behind reception beyond the turnstile (look up computer). Space for two telephones and storage cupboards space (3 cupboards minimum). Towel storage for up to 100 towels with a towel dispenser system. Dirty towel drop located at the back of reception, preferably dropping into the back office area. Reception is a key communication area for members and will require a large plasma screen (min 42 inches) at the back to display club information. This may need to be networked and will obviously require power. Large club logo sign to be displayed behind reception. Office This needs to service the whole club team, a minimum of 10 workstations in an open plan environment. Staff will share workstations so staff personal storage needs to be included perhaps under desk space. The workstations will be broken down as 6MC stations (membership consultant), 1 CGM (Club General manager), 1 Fitness, 1 Reception admin, 1 spare.

Workstations will require PC access at all stations although we start with 5 PCs per club 7 telephones lines, 1 each for the MC desks and 1 for the CGM. A whiteboard and a marketing board needs to be in the MC workstation area. Training room This should be accessed from the lounge area and is for small training sessions and personal meetings. It should have power and storage for a PC that will be used for training. A small meeting table and enough space for 4 people at a time. Kitchenette/ pantry This should be accessible from the office and have a large fridge, food preparation work surface (ie cutting bread, making a sandwich) and a sink. Cupboard space to store dry foods and crockery and a drying area for crockery. Space to eat in the form of a table and 2 chairs. Sales closing We should also look at an area for Internet sign ups for sales staff to use with new members, perhaps 2 kiosks with tall bar stools Drinks / Lounge / Internet Four Internet stations with concealed PCs and cabling as well as empty desk space with power access for a minimum of 3 other points for members to connect their own laptops/ tablets etc. Then have furniture that allows members to use their own tech with wi-fi. For example not just knee high coffee tables. The lounge also needs to be generous and comfortable but not over sized. Large screen TV for watching sport events as well as a quieter area for reading. Valuables lockers with integrated smartphone/tablet charging stations. The lounge can have complimentary tea and coffee and a quality branding isotonic drinks vending that is paid for. Member communication hotspots (new tech noticeboards)

These are large screen displays that push presentations and information to the members. These are located at Reception/ Members Lounge/ Changing rooms Entertainment Large TV screens in gym. As the cardio equipment will have integrated TV these are just to help with atmosphere. 3 in cardio and 1 in the strength area. Should space allow we would consider a DJ booth possibly in between the member lounge and cardio area. Very high specification sound system throughout the club. Cardio 1 This should be orientated to utilise all the natural aspects of views and features. As the aspect first seen by prospects/ members on entrance to the club it needs to be familiar and welcoming kit. So traditional cardio in the form of recumbent bikes, upright bikes, treadmills, elliptical trainer and steppers. This equipment will have integrated entertainment in the form of TV channels and Ipod compatability. All units will require power and co-axial cabling. Drink station / water fountain Two located at either end of gym. 1 situated outside studios and with nozzle for filling water bottles. Gym Hygiene station Located to serve the cardio and strength areas of the gym. This is a station that houses tissue roll a cleaning spray and a bin. Stretch Also a familiar area and for use as mobilisation, stretching area. Features include a ballet bar for support and kit storage for mat storage, stretchy bands, foam rollers, gym sticks, tennis balls. Approximately 12m sq. Sprint lane

A key feature in the design and differentiation of our clubs is that we support and enable people to move as they were designed to. The 2 person sprint lane will be used by the express small group classes and anyone wishing to incorporate short sharp work into their routine, exercise drills etc. It will also be used for functional resistance work in the form of pushing and pulling sleds. 30 to 40m straight ideally connecting all the zones in the club. Will require storage for sleds / weights/ bands/hurdles/ cones at one end. Floor class This is the area that enables members to achieve results, an area where they are led in a small group training through challenging fun ctional workouts. Essentially bringing the effects of small group training to the masses. Workouts will be no longer than 30 mins following a prescribed format of dynamic warm up, movement preparation and coaching to metabolic conditioning and cool down. These classes will run throughout the day and be the key driver of success for the members. They will vary daily and weekly bringing balance and progression throughout their delivery. Exercises will use bodyweight, barbells, dumbbells, sandbags, boxes, kettlebells, TRX, skipping ropes, medicine balls, pull up bars, non powered cardio (concept 2, spinning, curve treadmill, indoor track). Open storage needs to be factored in for this. Space per participant is 1.5m x 2m = 3m sq so for 10 30m sq this space will be cannibalised from traditional cardio and machine weights areas in a traditional health club model. Will need significant area for organisation and storage of kit. Monkeybar ladders Following the theme of free movement, a functional framework from which TRX can be hung and from which pull ups can be done from with the utilisation of boxes underneath if required. Targets can also be placed on top for medicine ball throws to be performed. This splits the class area and the free functional area so that access can be had by both. Free Functional An area where members can perform functional conditioning exercises using similar equipment as the classes outside of the class format. A screen should be available here with VOD (video on demand) of the weekly workouts and for instruction that can be browsed. Cardio 2

This small area joins the functional area with the free weights area and has mainly self powered cardio (concept 2 rowers, krank cycles, spin bikes, and should space allow traditional cardio pieces such as stepper and elliptical trainer) It provides a space for those training in the functional free area and the weight area that are combing and mixing their cardio and strength. Or indeed a place to warm up close to the free weights area without having to walk to the other side of the club. It helps to break up the zones and provide some texture within the design of the club. Free weights Located here are traditional dumbells and benches, barbells and power racks. Where possible a mirrored wall. Machine weights A basic selection of machine weights to cater to normal fitness population and provide a whole body workout. Generally set out in a circuit for intuitive use. Future proofing It is important to consider that exercise trends and equipment change and so to allow for different gym layouts and additional equipment in the future it is important to lay conduits for power access throughout all of the gym areas. Changing rooms These areas are incredibly important , they are a very personal space and frame the members experience. The ladies should have more space than the mens and more lockers, toilets, showers and vanity space. Vanity Good quality hair dryers, straighteners, and spare power points to plug in your own. Good lighting for make up application. Stool chairs to be provided. Showers Powerful showers especially for the ladies. Include up to 10 showers if possible.

Cubicles need to be spaced nicely with decent doors with materials that are easy to clean and stay clean. Comp shower gel Personal toiletries shelf Towel hooks Cleaning cupboard To store mops, buckets and cleaning materials. Toilets More in ladies than mens, up to 6 in ladies/ 4 in mens with consideration for cultural practice. Lockers Solid wood lockers supplied from Craftsman lockers in the UK. A minimum of 200 lockers in each changing rooms with Gantner locking mechanism. A selection of lockers will be available to hire and these are located closer to the entry/ exit of the changing area. Sauna Where space allows we will install a sauna and or steam in the changing rooms. This will be between a 4/6 person space. Additionally we would install a feature shower in this space. Main studio The main studio needs to be at least 250 square meters with a teaching platform and mirrors. It is important to pay attention to the lighting to ensure it is indirect as members will look up at the ceiling during certain classes and it isn't nice to lay on your back being dazzled. The instructor will need to access the music system to control it. Ventilation is important here and could be augmented by fans for a cooling effect. Storage is a consideration and so a built in cupboard, perhaps mirrored would be ideal to house steps, mats, body bars, core balls, etc. Opening up this space during studio down time would also be good as it would increase the flexibility of the use of the area. Perhaps the doors to the studio can concertina or slide away to create an open space that can be utilised by members when no class is in progress. Holding area for studio

This is an open area immediately outside the spin and main studio where member congregate before and after a class as one class ends and one starts. Ideally located in this area is a water fountain, studio timetables (on TV screens). Spin studio This is a destination area of the club and can be out of the way. The spin studio needs to hold approx. 25 bikes. We have the opportunity to create a really different vibe and theme with this area. Opportunities for a tiered/ amphitheatre layout. Control lighting - dark / mood. Perhaps it works with the music in someway. Art nature / viewscapes. Fans are a must for this area for simulating the breeze. Mind /Body Studio This must be in a quiet area and hidden from view, if there is an opportunity to create water features and use principles of feng shui. All timetables should be displayed on small screens outside the studios, if these could be touch screen even better for finding out Info on classes. Signage and branding The main area for this is the aspect looking into the club towards reception. Again if there is a possibility of this in the gym through some subtle use of branding then this should be included. Flooring / ceiling guidelines Reception floor: tiles/screed , ceiling: open Office floor floor: screed, ceiling: suspended Lounge floor: screed/ laminate, ceiling: open Cardio floor: screed, ceiling: open Sprint lane floor: pavigym, ceiling: open Functional floor: pavigym, ceiling: open Weights floor: pavigym, ceiling: open

Machine Weights floor: screed , ceiling: open Main Studio sprung floor: , ceiling: suspended Spin Studio screed floor: , ceiling: suspended Mind Body Studio sprung floor: , ceiling: suspended with sound insulation Changing rooms screed or tile floor: ceiling: suspended Traffic areas screed floor: ceiling: open AC /Ventilation We will need separate installation to cover early mornings. Where possible we will get the centre management to switch on the AC early. If not possible we need to look at an alternate solution for the entire club. Storeroom / workshop It is useful to have a small room for equipment breakdown where a bike or other piece of kit can be removed from the gym floor when is it out of order and engineers can work on it.
