About the Training Course
Through the development of hydraulic fracturing techniques, vital sources of energy have been unlocked in various coal and shale plays throughout the world. These technical breakthroughs have been a game changer for the coal and natural gas industry. With operators in Asia Pacific region taking more interest and moving into unconventional gas development, this course is the perfect opportunity to be ahead of the game, and develop the vital skills needed for tomorrows energy sources. This 3 day School focuses on advanced hydraulic fracturing techniques and the skills required to best release gas reserves. Attending the course will drive your hydraulic fracturing skills to the next level to better deliver operational success. Case histories of advanced hydraulic fracturing operations will be examined in order to provide unparalleled insights, covering everything from planning, diagnostics, mechanics and fluids through to job execution and quality control. The course delivers a truly interactive experience through lectures, visual presentations and team based exercises. Attendees will also have the opportunity to bring in their own well logs and work with the trainer for specific advice and recommendations

Who Should Attend

Managers, engineers and technical staff who are looking to expand their knowledge and seek fresh insights into advanced hydraulic fracturing techniques which they can implement into their shale gas drilling and fracturing operations.

What will I be able to do after the course?

Develop an overall understanding of advanced drilling and hydraulic fraccing techniques Learn about the importance of the correct fluid and proppant selection for the specific play you operate on Treatment of high permeability reservoir using frac packs How best to rig up and operate on location Develop an excellent understanding of the various shale plays and how water frac applications can be applied to each. This will be fully developed using case histories Take away and implement expert recommendations and advice for your specific well or project

About Your Course Director: John Ely

Mr. Ely started his career with Halliburton Co., in 1965, working as a technician for the Analytical group while completing his college work. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1968 with a B.S. in chemistry. On returning to Halliburton, Mr. Ely served as chemist and senior chemist in fracturing research before transferring to International Operations in 1973. While in fracturing research, he was instrumental in the development of several fracturing fluids, including high-temperature systems and non-aqueous energized systems. Ely's first assignment overseas was in south Iran as a district engineer. In 1975, he was promoted to technical adviser, Eastern Hemisphere, and transferred to Bahrain. He travelled and worked in eleven Middle East countries in this position. In 1976, John transferred to Dubai, U.A.E. The following year, he was promoted to technical adviser, International Operations, and was based in Duncan, Oklahoma where his primary duty was to co-ordinate all phases of research with international field operations. Ely joined Nowsco Services in 1980 as Engineering Manager. His responsibilities included overseeing chemical and mechanical research and coordinating training for field engineers. In 1985, John joined S.A. Holditch and Associates as Vice-President of Stimulation Technology. In addition to designing and supervising hundreds of stimulation treatments, he was involved in research on fracturing fluids under the auspices of the Gas Research Institute. Additionally, he served as an expert witness in areas involving completion and stimulation of oil and gas wells. In May 1991, John with three partners founded Ely & Associates, Inc. Since the inception of the company Ely & Associates of Texas has grown to be the largest Design and implementation company in the World. Ely & Associates supervised more than 18,000 frac stages in 2011 and will exceed that number by 30 % in 2012. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, The Society of Petroleum Engineers, and is a fellow of the American Institute of Chemistry.
