manufacturing
We have an excellent reputation for environmental performance in each of our manufacturing sites. We use techniques that are environmentally sound and that minimize resource consumption and generation of waste.
CONSERVING RESOURCES Careful asset management has reduced the consumption of raw materials and was worth several hundred million dollars in 1996. PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT We have eliminated the use of hazardous materials, such as Class 1 ODSs, several chlorinated solvents, and PCBs. Weve invested significantly over the past ten years in pollution prevention and correction measures. REDUCING WASTE TO LANDFILL Worldwide, waste to landfill was reduced by 73% since 1990, despite a doubling in the number of production sites reporting. Over 81% of our waste is now recycled.

In a world of finite resources, Xerox works to maximize the reprocessing of serviceable parts from returned equipment. It means that Xerox manufactured products are built from new and reprocessed parts tested to the same rigorous standards.
DESIGN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT Xerox Design for the Environment guidelines encourage product designs that minimize material and energy resources through use of recycled materials and parts that can be reprocessed and recycled. The environmental features of our newest digital products are the result of challenging design goals for waste minimization in all product life cycle phases. ENERGY EFFICIENCY Xerox is helping customers to reduce their energy bills and their contribution to global warming. Our latest ENERGY STAR equipment uses only half as much electricity as conventional office machines. REDUCED EMISSIONS The reduced emissions of heat, noise and ozone from Xerox equipment mean a more comfortable workplace for our customers. XEROX PAPER Our paper is derived from pulp from properly managed, sustainable forests and excludes the use of natural rain forest wood.

EDUCE Paper usage is reduced through the electronic storage and distribution of documents, printing-on-demand and twosided copying. It means savings on purchasing, mailing and storage of paper. EUSE Xerox has designed its equipment, supplies and packaging for durability and reuse. Packaging for delivery and collection of equipment can be reused multiple times... helping us to achieve our objective of leaving no waste with our customers. ECYCLE Xerox customers can return copy/print cartridges and toner containers to Xerox at no cost for reprocessing. And when Xerox equipment finally reaches the end of its useful life, we take it back to be processed for reuse and recycling.
