SCHOOL BASED EXPERIENCE LANGUAGE ARTS REPORT On 17th March until 21st March, the students from PISMP

semester 3 including me attended our school-based experience in the chosen school. I went to a school near to my house, which is Sekolah Kebangsaan Ismail (2), Kota Bharu. At first, I want to do my school-based experience (SBE) in Selangor but due to some problem I had to cancel it. However, my experience in the school gave me a reminiscent memory that will be remembered in my life. Moreover, it taught me about the real life as a teacher and the hardship in working. I could say my days in the school are quite dull as I am the only one doing my SBE in that school. In addition, there is a few numbers of the pupils in the school which is 367 pupils all over. On the first day in the school, I just filled the information form about the school and read the school management book. I also got the opportunity to mingle with the teachers but there were not so many of them in the school. I was looking for the English teachers, but there were two of them in the school. For the second day, I did some discussion about the lesson plan. One of the teachers showed me her lesson plans of year 1, 2 and 3. I felt so excited so I copied some of the lesson plans. She informed me that the KSSRs lesson plan is different from KBSRs lesson plan because she had to put the content standard and learning standard in the lesson plan. Her personal view is she thinks that having to do KSSR is quite complicated rather that KBSR lesson plan. On the third day, I asked Pn. Nuriha whether I can watch her teaching and learning session or not and it was a blissful day that she agreed with my request. However, she asked me to give her times so that she could prepare the lesson. So, I decided to observe her the next day. Nothing much I did for that day except for being a substitute teacher. When entering the class, I did some activities related to the Language Arts subject which is singing nursery rhymes such as singing If You Happy song with action. The pupils were so happy and they really enjoyed the activities. For the other class, I did drawing activity to enhance students imagination. The pupils who

drew nicely will be given a mechanical pencil as a reward. They seemed really joyful and contented. The next day, I followed Pn. Nuriha entering her class to watch the teaching and learning session. The first thing she did was introducing a nursery rhyme entitled Head and Shoulder. Then, the teacher sang along with the students with the action. Next, Pn. Nuriha picked some students randomly and asked them to perform the song on a mini stage at the back of the class. The students then performed really well and the other pupils imitate the action. After that, the teacher showed a picture of human body and introduced the body parts. Then, the pupils were asked to repeat after her. She also picked a pupil to come forward as a realia. The teacher pointed to the pupils body part and the students will say aloud the words. If there were any mispronouncing words, the teacher will immediately correct the pronunciation. The last thing was the teacher did a cut-andpaste pictures activity with the students. In my opinion, the activities done by the teacher was able to attract students attention in learning. The teacher should do variety of activities in classroom so that the teaching and learning session will not get bored. The fun way learning is essential in educating children because it can enhance students imagination and enables them to think outside the box. In conclusion, I would like to thank Pn. Nuriha and the teachers in SK Ismail (2) for guiding me regarding lesson planning and teaching session in classroom. I hope that the knowledge will be useful especially life soon.
