ay is Bike Month, and to celebrate there are several bicycle-friendly events taking place in Auburn. The 2013 Auburn Bike Festival, Auburn Old Town Farmers Market: Bike to Market Day, and the Atown Bikes swap meet will focus on promoting the benefits of riding a bicycle. The 2013 Auburn Bike Festival takes place on May 5 and is hosted by the Sierra Foothills Cycling Club (SFCC). The festival is free and features: three

club-led rides of 52, 35, and 20 miles, a two mile Family Fun Ride, a 0.7 mile kids bike ride ( for children age 7 and up), free
barbecue lunch for all ride participants, a raffle, the Auburn Police Van, representatives from local bike shops and represen-
tatives from the SFCC. President of SFCC, Larry Matz, thinks the festival will be a good way to educate people about cycling. Its a chance to introduce people to cycling who have not tried it before, said Matz. Its also an opportunity for those already involved in cycling to enjoy a nice, spring day educating the public on the benefits of cycling. According to Auburn Bike
Works owner Lisa Kodl, cycling has several benefits. I feel that it helps clear your head, whether you are mountain or road riding, Kodl said. Its a good way to save gas and get outdoors. We live in a

These things are a lot of fun, Jay said. There will be a ton of used stuff here. And remember, it is a swap meet, so barter for your best buy and dicker for that dynamite deal. A bicycle clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 4 in the Cool area. The first part of the clinic will emphasize the safety aspect of checking your bike before each ride, mainly a quick brake inspection and wheel check to make sure they are secure. Seat height, brake adjustment and gear selection will be discussed along with riders concerns and questions. The second part will be an actual bike ride of approx. one to two hours. Ages 10 and older welcome. Call (530) 621-1224 for meeting location (Cool area) and to sign up. Suggested donation: $5 members, $10 non-members.
