Apostle Battery
Greetings to you, our JAM family! I write you from a rondoval at our JAM base here in Mahvusa...

renovations
At Apostle, construction has begun on the needed renovations. Our bathrooms have been completely redone on the B site and the A site, the hall oors and roof are under way. We have been graciously blessed with over R500, 000 in donations toward these needed renovations! God is providing as we continue to move forward as our total renovations will most likely top R3 million. Please join with us in prayer for the additional funds that we will need to continue on this project. We know our God will provide for everything we need.

We have had an action packed few months of serving God around this country. In March we had teams from the states with us visiting some of our bases and shooting video for Hume Lake Christian Camp. Hume Lake is partnering with us beginning next year in our camping ministry. Git and Mignon will be spending June and July at the camp sharing the vision of JAM and solidifying this partnership.

In this issue of our newsletter you will hear the continuing story of Mignon and Lisa as they are on incredible journeys geographically and spiritually. We hope that the words that they write jump off the page and challenge you into a deeper condence in our amazing God. Thanks for taking a few minutes to read what is going on here at JAM and always feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions about how you can get involved or just want to say Hi! We like that kind of stuff! :) Cheers, Dereck

Thinus & Lisa in Mavhusa...

Mavhusa Village...
Thinus and I have been working in Mavhusa Village for almost four weeks. I cant believe how fast time passes! In our last JAM newsletter I wrote that I was excited for this new season and a new adventure with Jesus. Well, getting here and settling into this place has been quite the adventure, indeed! Before we left for the village, our hearts were lled with excitement and we were so ready to start the next chapter in our walk with Jesus. Although our hearts were ready, it was not easy getting out of Cape Town. A few weeks before we were scheduled to leave, we went to renew my Spousal Visa and upon our arrival, Home Affairs told us that they lost my entire le. Five years of paperwork gone! We had to provide them with a Doctors Clearance, Xrays of my lungs proving that I dont have TB, a spousal interview proving that Thinus and I are legitimately married, and a whole laundry list of application forms and documents. While we were waiting to hear if my application was accepted, we found out that the accommodation near Mavhusa we had scheduled to stay in wasnt going to work out anymore. Another group had out-bid us. At that point, we were supposed to leave in three days, but we didnt know if I would be legal in the country, or where we would be staying once we reached Giyani. Needless to say, we were

stressed. The joy and excitement had dimmed and we just wanted to get there. A week later, we heard my visa application was accepted and we headed out. Although we didnt know where we would be staying, we knew that God knew, and that was enough for us. After the long journey, we arrived at the Kremetart Guest House. One of the rst mornings we were here, Thinus and I decided to worship God together through music. One of the lyrics we kept singing was Jesus, all for Jesus. Its only in your will that I am free. This verse came straight from our hearts. Even though it was difcult getting here, and even though we didnt know where we would be staying or for how long, we felt such freedom knowing that we are in Gods will. We were reminded that even if everything looks chaotic around us, if we are in Gods will and are being obedient to his calling, we dont need to worry about anything else. And this freedom only comes from Christ. (A few weeks later we found out that the group who had out-bid us for the accommodation cancelled. So the Kremetart Guest House is our new home!) The ministry in Mavhusa is going so well. On the Monday following Easter, we shared the story of Jesus Crucied with the children. They were so accepting of the story and they are so excited to learn more about Jesus. Lifter is doing an

incredible job discipling these kids. I started working at Hillside Primary School as a Remedial Teacher and it has been amazing. One day, in the middle of class, one of my students asked, Teacher Lisa, is it true that if we believe in Jesus we get to go to Heaven and be with Him forever? I couldnt believe it! I got to share the Gospel story with the whole class because one little girl asked a question. It was beautiful. Although there are incredible things happening, there has been a lot of discouragement and trial. Ive realized again that Jesus calls us to love people who are really unlovely sometimes. Its not easy being the new kid in town, especially when you stand out so easily. But my prayer is that my heart never grows hard. I want to have so much love for God and for the people here that I cant help but persevere. I know that that kind of love only comes from God. Ive realized over these last few weeks that there is often something trying to steal my joy. Discouragement will come, but there will always be a reason to give thanks to God and praise his name. Dont worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience Gods peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. Philippians 4:6-7. - Lisa

interview some of our leaders and children in our kids ministry. We had such fun together and had opportunity to share our hearts and to hear more about our role while at Hume. It always surprises me that our hearts in God can be so unied and beat for the same things even though we live thousands of miles apart. We are so excited about our time there and the partnership opportunities that it holds for the future. At our send out dinner, one of our board members shared a part in Acts 8 with us. It tells the story of Philip and the eunuch. Something that struck me was the effect that simple obedience can have. We know God has called us to the States, we know that upon returning He has called us to a time in Transkei and we trust that God will keep revealing the exact things He wants us to focus on while we are there. We hold on to the fact that God has called us, that His Spirit equips us and that where His name is proclaimed, it never returns void. That being said, if you asked me if Im scareddenitely. Is it unknown and overwhelming at times? Certainly. Please continue to pray for us as living in a rural community in Transkei and speaking in front of a thousand high-schoolers in America are neither things that come naturally nor are easy for us. I have learned a great deal from the great men and women of faith in the Bible. They were all weak, fearful or inadequate in some way. However, this is the exact thing that glories God. Because in the end its not about our ability, power or knowledge, but its all about His Spirit using us in places and in peoples lives that need His love and grace most. This adventure is scary and exciting and it is SO worth living with God!! - Mignon

I can't believe that April has arrived so quickly!! Soon Gerhard and I will be on a plane to America! Dreams come true in interesting ways when you live with God :) In March, we had the amazing privilege of spending time with Rachel, our director (or boss lady) for the time that we will be working at Hume Lake Summer camp. Her team came to SA for a week to capture footage of the work that JAM is doing in the different areas and to

P R AY !

- Pray that our eyes, our minds, our hearts and our ambitions would be xed on Jesus! - for wisdom and discernment - for the renovations taking place at Apostle Battery... for the workers, the funds, the supporters who have made this possible, for safety, for patience and amidst the moments of slight inconvenience that we all keep a grateful heart for this amazing gift from Jesus! - that each of our JAM team, M.I.T. and staff members would fall more and more in love with Jesus everyday and grow in their relationship with Him! - Please pray that through this season of change and growth that we would always lean on God and his direction for us, even if that means changing what we know and programs we have done for years! For His plans are far better than anything we could come up with :)
