Ultimate Spider-Man Growing Pains (S1-E2) Screenplay by Taylor Spearman InteriorDayClassroom, High School A Teacher stands at the front

of a class in front of a chalkboard. The Teacher is elderly with graying black hair and glasses. He talks with a long and boring monotonous voice. Teacher: In 1930, the Republicans controlled the House of Representatives in an effort to elevate the effects of theanyone? Anyone? (Pause. Silence) The Great Depression. They passed theanyone? Anyone? (Pause. Silence) The Tariff Bill. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act. The CAMERA pans across the History class as the teacher continues speaking. Kong MacFarlane is asleep in the back row, practically drooling in his sleep. Several students are seen passing notes. Mary Jane Watson and Peter Parker are seen sitting next to each other nearby the windows. Teacher: (OS) Anyone? Raised or lowered? Raised tariffs. In order to collect more revenue for the Federal Government. Anyone know the effects? It did not work. And the United States government sank deeper into the Great Depression. At his desk, Peter is in constant agony. His eyes are fluttering open and shut. His skin is extremely pale and he is practically dripping sweat. Teacher: (OS) Today we have a similar debate over this? Anyone? Anyone know what this is? Peters hands are fidgeting, fumbling with the pencil in hand while trying to take notes, which are already proving to be difficult enough.

Teacher: (OS) Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Act. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as this point. Mary Jane looks down at her notebook, writing down the necessary notes as the teacher continues the lecture. Teacher: (OS) This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Peter looks over at Mary Jane nervously as he continues to sweat heavily. Teacher: (OS) Anyone? Something D-O-O economics? Underneath his desk, Peter tries to hide his hands from view of the rest of the class as they spasm in deformed ways. Teacher: (OS) Voodoo Economics. CAMERA pulls back. Peter grabs his desk by the inner edge and suddenly spasms backward in a jerking motion. His hands push forward and snap the wooden desk in two with a loud KRAK! The teacher turns his attention towards Peter as the rest of the class also turns their attention to him. Teacher: Parker? Flash stands up form his desk with a huge obnoxious smile on his face. Flash: Oh! Ha! Ha! Ha! Oh my God! You are the hugest spazoid! Kong stands up from his desk next to Flash, trying not to laugh too hard like his friend. Kong: And now for my next trickI shall actually trip while sitting down.

Peter stumbles backwards on the floor, pushing away pieces of the broken desk. He looks up at Flash and Kong with pure hatred and anger in his eyes. Peter: Hey! How about you shut that stupid hole of yours, or Ill shut it for you! Flash and Kong are dumbfounded and this sudden outburst and stare silently at Peter. Peter himself is also shocked at his attitude. Its not like him at ALL. Flash and Kong start laughing harder than ever, having to hold each other up they laugh so hard. Kong: Ha ha ha ha , oh man Flash: Did he just--? No ha ha ha ha ha hah! Peter picks himself up off the ground and steps away from the desk broken in pieces on the floor. The teacher makes his way over and places his hand on Peters shoulder to calm him down. Teacher: Okay, thats enough, Peter. Please. Justjust go cool off and see if you cant find another desk. Without saying another word, Peter turns and heads towards the door. Peter pushes past a few of his classmates on his way, keeping his head down out of embarrassment. Flash and Kong are still laughing at the situation as the door to the classroom is heard opening and closing. Flash: Heehee, man, he is constantly entertaining.

Teacher: Thats enough, Thompson. Kong: (To Flash) Yo! He almost kicked your butt. Teacher: Guys! Flash: (To Kong) I knowImIm so very frightened Teacher: Thats it, Thompson. Detention! This finally catches Flashs attention. He turns towards the teacher in protest. Flash: What? Why? Whatd I do? InteriorDayBoys Restroom, High School The restroom is empty, all except for Peter. Peter stands at a sink on the far side of the restroom, gripping the edges as he looks down at the sink. His outer shirt rests on the edge of the sink next to him. Peter takes his glasses off and places them on the top of the sink. He turns the water faucet on and lets the sink basin fill up. He fills his hands with water and splashes the water on his face. Peter: (VO) What the hell is wrong with me now? I mean, one minute Im climbing walls and the next minute Im doing the spaz dance. But but, nownow I feel great. Totally great. But all this from one spider bite? Theres got to be more to it. Theres gotta be. Peter turns the water off and lets the water in the sink drain out. He grabs his glasses off the top of the sink and places them back on his face. Peter shakes the remaining water off his hands. He looks at his reflection in the bathroom mirror.

Peter: (VO) Gotta be someone I can talk to without being locked away in a freak farmAunt Mays head will just shoot right off her body. Peter steps away from the sink and holds his hands out, examining them. How was he able to snap the wooden desk in half so easily? Peter: (VO) I should talk to a doctor, maybe. Maybe Im dying. But I cant beI feel great. CLOSE on Peter as he notices something. Peter pulls up the sleeve of his shirt and flexes his bicep. Gym Coach: Well, glad all that practicing is paying off, Michael. Next! The Gym Coach turns back towards the line of shooters and sees Peter standing next in line, with basketball in hand. Gym Coach: Oh, great! Parker. Somebody call GuinnessI give you credit, Parker. You always show up no matter how futile the gesture. Lets go. Peter looks past the coach, having not heard him. He is distracted by something by the bleachers. Mary Jane stands against the bleachers in her gym uniform. Flash stands in front of her, having placed his arms on both sides of her,

basically pinning her in against the lockers and making her uncomfortable. Flash: Come on, soYeah, I know theres more goin on in there, Brainy Janey. I been checking you out. Mary Jane: Have you? Well, do me a favor and The Gym Coach steps in front of Peter, blocking his view of Flash hitting on Mary Jane. Gym Coach: Parker! Please, while I still have a will to live. Peter takes a step back to get in line to take his shot. As he dribbles the ball, he turns his head back towards the bleachers. Mary Jane tries to move past Flash and get away from him. Flash grabs her by the arm, with a cocky smile on his face, and pulls Mary Jane back to him. Flash grabs Mary Jane by the shoulders and pins her up against the bleachers. He opens his mouth to say something, when he is suddenly hit in the face by a hard thrown basketball. SMACK! Flash pulls away from Mary Jane, holding his stinging face. Peter brushes past the shocked Gym Coach on his way towards the bleachers. Gym Coach: Whoa there, Parker! Peter walks quickly towards Flash, whose back is to Peter, as he stands up, rubbing his aching face. Flash: What the hell? Ow! Peter grabs Flash by the shoulders and spins him around. Before Flash can respond, Peter shoves him back hard a few steps. Peter: You keep your hands off her, Thompson. Just leave her alone.

Flash looks at Peter up and down in growing rage as he realizes Peter is the one who threw the ball. Flash: Are you out of your mind, Parker? I will squash you like a Flash steps towards Peter, raising his fist to punch him. Before he can, the Gym Coach quickly gets in between them and keeps Flash back. Gym Coach: Flash, get out of here. Hit the showers! Youre done. Flash: He hit me! Gym Coach: Ill deal with it. Hit the showers, Thompson. Flash pulls away, shaking off the Gym Coach. He is still furious. He turns to walk towards the shower room, but quickly turns back around. Flash steps quickly towards Peter, but the Gym Coach holds him back. Flash leans his face in close to Peter over the Coachs shoulders. Flash: Three oclock is just an hour away. Peter: Really? Whats five plus four? Flash: One hour. Gym Coach: Thompson! Flash turns and walks away towards the shower room, throwing his hands up in frustration. Flash: This sucks, man! I didnt do anything!

The Gym Coach watches as Flash turns the corner, then turns his attention to Peter. Gym Coach: Well, Parker, looks like you can throw when you want to The Gym Coach walks away and heads back towards the other gym students. Peter turns towards Mary Jane, who has been watching from a few feet away. Peter: Sorry, Mary, thatthat wasnt Mary Jane: Peter. Thanks Peter smiles at Mary Jane and blushes bright red. Kong stands at the edge of the circle holding Flashs coat. Kong: Come on, Flash! Bring the pain! Flash throws several punches at Peter, trying to strike the little nerd down. However, Peter easily and with great grace dodges and avoid every punch thrown his way. Flash: Whats gotten into you, Parker? Huh? Peter: What did I say? I said I dont want to fight. Flash: Gotta get up in my business?

Flash charges at Peter and throws a punch hard enough to take his head off, but Peter ducks and rolls right under him. Kong: Kick his ass! Peter deftly springs back up to his feet and immediately sidesteps another punch from Flash. Peter manages to move away from Flash, trying to keep the distance between them. Peter: Im serious, Flash. I dont want to fight you Flash stares Peter down as his anger overcomes him completely. He charges at Peter, pulling back his fist to drive a powerful punch. Flash: Well, you should have though about that before Peter has had enough. He stands his ground as Flash charges him down and holds out his hand. Flash punches Peters hand as hard as he can, resulting in a sickening CRRRRKK as Flashs hand breaks. Flash holds his shattered hand to his chest and backs away from the stunned Peter, crying out in agony. Kong rushes over to Flashs side. Flash falls to his knees, clutching his broken hand to his chest whole he cries over his hand. Peter backs away from Flash, looking around at the rest of the students. Kong and Harry Osborn sit at the bar in the kitchen eating chips and others snacks. Harry: Wait, what? Kong: Parker broke Flashs hand. Harry: Parker broke Flashs hand? Kong: He just broke it and said: Next time Im gonna kill you! Harry: He said that? Kong: Yeah, said it was payback time and all that. Harry picks up his can of soda and takes a sip, contemplating the information he just heard. Harry: Wow. Broke his hand. Kong holds out his huge hand in a mangled fashioned to demonstrate what it looked like.

Kong: Yeah, it was all mangled like this. Unseen by either of the boys, Norman Osborn stands in the shadows of the hallway just outside the kitchen, listening in. Kong: Dude went to the ER. The CAMERA looks down on Norman as he holds a whisky glass in his hand and listens in on his son and friend talking. Harry: Guess hes out of the league. Kong: No doubt. Less he can learn to dribble with his nose. Harry: Wow. Peter beat up Flash. Kong: Laid the smack down. Harry: Huh. Harry stands up, taking the empty bowl of chips to the sink and rinsing it out. Kong: That guy is like a scary alien freak, man. Harry: Who? Kong: Parker. First, what? Like he doesnt say two words all year. Nuthin. Just all in full-geek mode right? Then all of a sudden, hes allhes all breakin his desk in half, then hes all up in our face. Then hes laying the smack down on Flash. Norman finishes filling his glass and puts the whiskey back away into the bar. Norman: I feel bad for what happened and I thought Id make it up to him give him a personal tour. Do you think hed like that? Harry is pleasantly surprised at his father taking an interest in his friends well-being. Harry: Are you kidding me? Uhyeah, hed love that. Hedyeah.

Norman takes a sip of his drink and walks back over to the door. He opens it and stands to the side, signing that his conversation with Harry is over. Norman: Good. See you kids after school. Peter: What now? UNCLE BEN takes a deep breath and looks from PETER to AUNT MAY. Uncle Ben: $2500 hospital bill and if we dont Aunt May: (Interrupting) (Shocked) What? Uncle Ben: (Continuing) And if we dont pay for it theyre going to sue us. CLOSE ON PETER shoots his head up in shock at this news. Peter: Are you kidding?! AUNT MAY is equally shocked at this news. She places a hand on UNCLE BENS shoulder. Aunt May: Sue? Oh my God! What are we going to do? Uncle Ben: What can we do? Let a lawyer bleed us dry on top of paying the bill or just pay the bill? Aunt May: But Uncle Ben: (CONT) May, he broke the kids hand. What can I do? AUNT MAY turns towards PETER and crosses to the side of the dining table. Aunt May: Peter, this is not the way you were raised. This is not how human beings behave.

The warehouse is full of old broken down cars, several wooden crates and has chains dangling down from the rafters. From outside the warehouse, we can hear a loud groan. Suddenly, one of the metal gates of the warehouse is forced up with violent force that mangles the metal. A shadowed figure

(PETER) steps into the warehouse as the light of the moon shines behind him. PETER walks further in to the warehouse, taking in his environment. After a few moments, he deftly leaps into the air. CAMERA ANGLES UP as PETER lands on the side of a support beam and sticks to it for a second before leaping again and again from one beam to another until he is sticking upside down from the ceiling. PETER slowly approaches the car, running his hand along the rusted roof as he makes his way to the end. PETER grabs the bumper of the car in both hands and pulls up, straining his muscles. He manages to pick the car up completely in the air with his own two hands. He turns around, still holding the car in the air, and hurls it easily through the air and crashing into a pile of old crates. PETER throws his hands in the air in victory as he yells out in glee. Peter: I AMHERCULES! I LOVE THAT FREAKIN SPIDER! PETER suddenly bends over and cries out as he is hit by a pain racking seizure that is sent throughout his body. Until AUNT MAY: Peter, youre not wearing your glasses. PETER stops eating for a moment and place his hands to his face, realizing his glasses are indeed not on his face. PETER: Oh hey, yea. UhII guess I left them upstairs. PETER goes back to eating his pancakes as does AUNT MAY. CUT TO CLOSE UP of the stone sign outside Osborn Industries. The sign reads: OSBORN INDUSTRIES. WORKING TOWARD YOUR FUTURE. QUICK CUT TO InteriorDayOsborn Industries HARRY leads PETER through the inner labs of the building, showing him stuff you normally wouldnt see on an average tour. Its like an early Christmas for PETER as he looks around at all the machines and technology The camera follows alongside them PETER:

Im serious, Harry. I totally want to work in a place like this. HARRY: You would. PETER: I would! Harry: I know. PETER: So, what are we doing here. HARRY and PETER come to a door that slides open on their approach. They enter into the next room and we watch as the doors close shut again. CUT TO HARRY leads PETER casually through the more advanced rooms that only special workers are allowed entrance too. They walk past several containers holding animals of different kinds being used for experimentation. HARRY: Like I said, my dad felt bad about the whole spider thing and he knows you really get off on this stuff so he said: Come on down PETER: Thats pretty solid of him. HARRY: Its amazingly solid of him. I mean, for him. The CAMERA stops as they walk past two scientists in lab coats standing at a large computer containing images and data from the animal experiments. HARRY: Yo, Doc Ock! CLOSE as one of the scientists, OTTO OCTAVIUS, turns around at HARRYS call. He is a handsome man with short black hair and dark glasses. He leaves the computer and approaches HARRY and PETER.

HARRY: This here is Doctor Otto Octavius. PETER: Doc Ock? OCTAVIUS: Doctor Octavius. OCTAVIUS extends his hand and shakes with PETER. HARRY: Hes a big brain around here. Very big brain. Scary big. OCTAVIUS leads PETER away from HARRY and talks to him in private. We follow in front of them and stay with them for now. OCTAVIUS: I hear youre quite the talent in the science arts. PETER: Oh, well, thats PETER stops as the camera pans over to a nearby computer. PETER rushes over to it in excitement. PETER: Hey, I wouldnt mind having one of those 9-G40s. OCTAVIUS: Oh, you dont want that. Its an old one. PETER turns his head and looks back at OCTAVIUS, looking like an eager kid. PETER: Can I have it when you throw it out? QUICK CUT TO: HARRY walks over to a beautiful woman in a lab coat. He casually leans against the machine she is working on, trying to use his cool guy charms on her HARRY:

(CONTD) Hey Darlene, where you been? DARLENE: Waiting for you to hit puberty, Junior. HARRY: What?! How could you say that? I did that earlier in the week. CLOSE ON OCTAVIUS places his hand on PETERS shoulder and speaks into his ear, like a snake. OCTAVIUS: Peter, I heard about the unfortunate incident with the arachnid experiment PULL BACK AS PETER moves away from OCTAVIUS and over to a container holding a live rabbit inside. We at PETER from inside the container, giving it a green tint, as OCTAVIUS walks up behind him. OCTAVIUS: I hope that you havent had any odd side effects. Dizziness? Drowsiness? PETER: Well, there has been a littlewhat are all the animals for anyway? OCTAVIUS: We check the blood for reactions PETER turns his head back to OCTAVIUS behind him. PETER: Reactions? OCTAVIUS: Just simple blood work. Have you ever had your blood taken, Peter? PETER: Oh yeah, you know, physicals.

PETER turns back around and examines the container some more. He doesnt notice OCTAVIUS reaching into the inside of his jacket to retrieve something. OCTAVIUS: Well, why dont we take some of yours and I can show you what we do here. OCTAVIUS removes from his jacket a very large hypodermic needle used for drawing blood. He silently approaches PETER from behind with the needle. PETER raises his head from the container as we enter SLO MO. The camera, taking the form of PETERS spider-sense moves from PETERS face to behind him and the needle in OCTAVIUSS hand. The camera then rush back to PETERS face and returns to NORM SPEED. PETER turns around to OCTAVIUS but is too slow OCTAVIUS places one hand on PETERS shoulder and holds him still as he sticks the needle into PETERS skin, drawing blood. PETER: Hey! What are you doing? Hey! PETER pushes OCTVAIUS away violently, holding his arm where the needle stuck into him. PETER: What the heck is wrong with you? OCTAVIUS: Just taking a sample. HARRY hears PETER and rushes over to his friends side. HARRY: What happened? PETER: What was this? Like an ambush or HARRY:

(CONTD) What happened? PETER pushes past HARRY and makes a hard run straight for the nearest door with an EXIT sign over it. HARRY chases after his friend, leaving OCTAVIUS behind. HARRY: Peter? Whats going on? The camera moves in close on OCTAVIUS. He smiles to himself and places the blood-filled syringe back into his jacket. CUT TO ExteriorNightOsborn Industries HARRY nearly breaks the door down as he runs out, looking around. We pull out to a wide shot as HARRY looks for PETER, but he is nowhere to be found. We pull out even wider to show that the exit HARRY is standing in leads to a wide open space of field, leaving nowhere for PETER to disappear to. But he seems to have. HARRY: Peter? CUT TO InteriorNightOsborns Office OCTAVIUS stands in front of a large screen descended from the ceiling. On the screen is the microscopic image of PETERS blood sample. OCTAVIUS: What I am saying is that the deterioration effects we witnessed in the first Parker sample have, in laymans terms, reversed themselves. We pull back to a wide shot of the rest of the room. OSBORN sits behind his desk, listening to OCTAVIUSS report while JUSTIN stands to the side of the desk.

OSBORN: Meaning? OCTAVIUS: Meaning the boy is a healthy specimen. If not healthier. His metabolism is somewhat akin tolets saythat of a long distance runner or an Olympic level athlete. JUSTIN: But what will happen as his condition progresses? OCTAVIUS: His condition has stabilized. His blood count is normal. CLOSE on OSBORN leaning forward in his chair, intrigued by what he is hearing. OSBORN: Stabilized. OCTAVIUS turns back towards the screen and examines the data in front of him. OCTAVIUS: I would really like to spend more time with the subject, Mr. Osborn. I have a series of tests that CLOSE on OSBORN sitting back in his chair and turns around away from the camera. OSBORN: Thank you, Doctor. Have a good night. OCTAVIUS looks disappointed and turns off the projector. He leaves the room. Once OCTAVIUS is gone, JUSTIN moves to in front of the desk and faces OSBORN. JUSTIN: Should I call Shaw back in to finish the job? OSBORN: No.

JUSTIN: No? OSBORN: No. His parentsthe school. Too many people to put two and two together. An autopsy to deal with. It will leave a trail. Its not a smart move at the time. JUSTIN: You want us to bring him in for more tests? OSBORN: That would be admitting that there is something to test. No, no, we need to repeat the accident. JUSTIN looks up quickly in confusion and shock at OSBORN. JUSTIN: Repeat theon a human? OSBORN: Match the situation. Specimen. Control the environment. JUSTIN slowly backs away from the desk, in shock at what he is hearing. OSBORN turns in his chair towards his computer screen and types in a few commands. OSBORN: Pull up my file, please.
