Employment Opportunity Internal/External Community Support Worker Full-Time (35 hrs/wk) Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) is seeking an experienced Community

Support Worker who will engage clients through outreach and programming activities. The successful candidate will be able to handle a variety of tasks with professionalism, diplomacy and confidentiality. General Responsibilities: Housing search and posting adds for the public Housing support services including advocating with landlords and making shelter referrals Liaise and advocate with other agencies to forge partnerships and to assist clients with financial, legal, housing tribunal, child welfare and medical support Represent TI on community committees such as Ottawa Police Services, CAS, etc. Provide non-judgmental, supportive counseling services Crisis intervention, conflict resolution, family violence intervention, suicide intervention Assist clients to obtain identification papers, medical coverage and non-insured health benefits Provide client referrals to agencies and services as required Maintain confidential client files and gather statistical information for reporting purposes Case management, funder/activity report preparation Provide cultural education to community agencies Assist with TIs Food Bank, community feast and other TI programming and social events Other duties as may be required Requirements: Ability to function effectively in a busy environment and in stressful situations Some evening and weekend work will be required Qualifications: Experience providing counseling services to the Inuit community Familiarity with issues facing Inuit families Knowledge of Inuit culture and values Experience with group facilitation and workshop design and delivery Motivated and able to work independently Outstanding organizational skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Fluency in Inuktitut and English is preferred Computer literacy (word processing programs, email, internet) Drivers license a strong asset To apply: Please submit your resume and cover letter by mail to: Hiring Committee, Tungasuvvingat Inuit, 604 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa ON K1R 6L1 or by fax: 613-563-4136 or email careers@tungasuvvingatinuit.ca Application Deadline: May 6, 2013.
