Annotated Bibliography Bucy, Erik P., Gantz, Walter, and Wang, Zheng. "Media Technology And The 24-Hour News Cycle." Communication technology and social change: Theory and implications. 143163. Mahwah, NJ US: Lawrence Erlbaum Associates Publishers, 2007. PsycINFO. Web. 14 Mar. 2013. After reading the preface and background, it was more than enough information for me to work with. It the beginning, it states that only three news networks were available to watch back in the 1970s. Now, it has expanded to include several more networks and their respective websites. Satellite TV and radio makes news available on the go. Podcasts, which have become increasingly popular, can be downloaded from websites or places such as iTunes, and can be downloaded to any mp3 player. Internet has big role in the creation of the 24-Hour News Cycle because it makes articles that are discussed daily on networks available when people may be near a TV. The internet also allows a medium for viewers to respond to articles and provide their own opinions. It takes news reporting to another level because networks now can cater what they show towards what their audience prefers. Dunham, Richard S. "GOP CONVENTION; Social media; 24-hour news cycle 'has become a 140-character one'." Houston Chronicle (TX) 29 Aug. 2012: 8. NewsBank. Web. 09 Mar. 2013. NewsBank published this article in August of last year, at the climax of the presidential campaign. With contributions from Carla Marinucci of the San Francisco Chronicle, Dunham wrote about how political campaigns are using social media like Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr to help engage young voters. Dunham also quoted Zac Moffatt, the digital director of the Romney campaign at the time: It really doesnt matter how

many people you have following you, its how many people you engage. He further goes on to say that campaigns will employ people who specialize in using different social media outlets to draw in supporters and have them become involved in the race. Hrach, TJ. "No Time To Think: The Menace Of Media Speed And The 24-Hour News Cycle." Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly 86.3 (n.d.): 715-717. Social Sciences Citation Index. Web. 12 Mar. 2013. This article allows the reader to have a comprehensive understanding of 24-hour news cycle, and the positive and negative effects of its continuous update. The authors tone is somewhat skeptical, speaking about how the information we receive today is fairly contradictory almost in a manner to warn us of what we read. It would seem the author conducted many interviews with various journalists in order to increase the credibility of his article. He speaks about how the journalists he spoke to no longer have days or hours to prepare stories. The author continues by saying information must be released to the general public within a matter of minutes in order to combat with competing journalism corporations. This lack of time in turn decreases the credibility of released information. The author elaborates on several instances regarding the negative effect of speedy reporting ultimately resulting in misinformation. For example, the author speaks of the case relating back to 2008 and the false crowning of Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party nomination. Shortly after losing the vote in Iowa, a major swing state, reporters began to turncoat, ultimately resulting in her loss. Overall, it would seem the authors article was a large interview consisting of a number of credible sources, backed with factual information. Not only will I be able to use this as a reference in my paper, I can

utilize this article as a base for any interviews I might choose to conduct and what information I should focus on acquiring. Windschitl, Paul D. et al. "Knowing Too Much: Using Private Knowledge To Predict How One Is Viewed By Others." Psychological Science 6 (2008): 542. JSTOR Life Sciences. Web. 12 Mar. 2013. When I first looked at this research report, I mainly chose to read through certain parts because I thought I would be provided with helpful information just by reading the title. The abstract talks about when a person knows too much about another, they feel perplexed about how their personality is being perceived. It is an interesting report, filled with reports on four experiments, but it is not helpful towards my paper.
