INFORMATION OFFICER JOB DESCRIPTION LOCATION: REPORTS TO: HOURS: START DATE: SALARY RANGE: Additional benefits offered: MAIN PURPOSE: To maintain and develop the information service, with primary responsibility for the quarterly members magazine, website and information services. This is a busy role and maternity cover is essential for providing continuation of core member services, as well as working on new and ongoing projects. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Editing the quarterly members magazine Responsibility for overseeing and managing the content of the website and other online communications Co-ordinating the production of the glossy Annual Review Work with the helpline team to respond to information enquiries Assist in the development of information materials including a DVD of physiotherapy exercises for children Data Protection Officer Working with the rest of the staff team on any other information-based tasks as required

MAIN TASKS: 1. To write content and commission articles for the Magazine, edit, and liaise with external contractors (printer, designer etc), and ensure that the magazine is produced and distributed according to schedule and is a cost-effective and high quality publication that meets the needs of our members 2. To monitor and oversee content of the website; liaise with a volunteer to moderate the message board and ensure that the XXX website is used to its full potential as a an information source and fundraising tool (familiarity with Content Management Systems is essential, experience of working with Photoshop, Google Analytics, HTML and online shops would be useful) 3. To plan and produce the glossy Annual Review, working closely with the General Manager and Chief Executive to agree a production schedule, style and key messages 4. To respond to information enquiries from members of the public and members as and when necessary, in liaison with the Helpline Team and other staff/volunteers and to keep a log of all information enquiries. 5. To plan, organise and coordinate production of a DVD of physiotherapy exercises. 6. To maintain a timetable of communications commitments (magazine schedule, website updates etc) alongside the Information Teams production schedule for new leaflets and the events calendar

7. To develop, update and promote leaflets and other literature as necessary 8. To ensure that all publications, including the magazine, leaflets and website adhere to the charitys standards on corporate branding, language about XXX and disability, and accessibility 9. To co-ordinate the Home Visiting service, providing support to the Home Visitors and ensuring a consistent and quality service to users. 10. To routinely collect feedback and statistics on information materials and services through the use of surveys, feedback forms, Google Analytics etc. Use feedback and analysis to inform strategies for developing new materials and services and distributing information. Produce reports for staff and trustees as required. 11. As the Data Protection officer, to be the guardian of the Data Protection guidelines, keeping up to date with relevant developments and updating them as necessary. Ensuring staff are aware of their Data Protection responsibilities. 12. To take responsibility for online communications, sending out email updates to members and supporters and exploring the use of social networking and online fundraising opportunities 13. To represent the charity at events (or make sure there is a member of staff present at each event) with an information stand and relevant literature. 14. To contribute to the general work of the Information Team and the overall development of Information services and materials 15. To carry out any other task or project required from time to time, as directed by the General Manager or CEO

Person specification Essential skills and attributes: Experience of writing for various print formats and for different audiences; Excellent written and oral communication skills; Excellent IT skills, with proven ability to use Microsoft Office, email and internet; Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines; Able to work flexibly, juggling multiple priorities; Experience of planning, organising and scheduling projects; Experience of working with Content Management Systems; Creative approach to work; An eye for detail and accuracy; Ability to work in a small team and on own initiative without day to day supervision; Ability and willingness to work under pressure; Discretion and confidentiality in relation to information enquiries; Proven ability to think strategically, set and meet milestones; Able to work at speed, but retain accuracy; Empathy; Awareness of disability issues. Able to work occasional evening and weekends

The following are desirable but not essential: Experience of working in the charity sector, preferably in a health or disability setting; Experience of working with designers, printers and involvement in the print production process; Knowledge and understanding of disability in a professional or personal capacity would be advantageous; Awareness of issues surrounding disability, children, youth and family issues; Understanding of the role of the voluntary sector; Experience of writing for online media, for different audiences; Knowledge and understanding of Data Protection issues; Knowledge of web accessibility issues; Experience of using Adobe, Photoshop, Google Analytics and online shops and a basic knowledge of html.
