FYE is committed to creating the conditions for success at the university for all new students. Through diverse and relevant programs, and meaningful relationships, FYE helps new students learn how to navigate the university, enhance their capacity to engage with new ideas, and develop the skills to meet challenges inside and outside the classroom. FYE is responsible for coordinating University Orientation as well as support programs and collaborations to benefit the first year transition to college. The Program Coordinator will help new students become acquainted with university life. Key responsibilities of this position include coordinating pre-enrollment adventure camps; coordinating aspects of the common reading program, the Buckeye Book Community; and managing the First Year Connections Team and their signature event, the Scarlet Scramble. Position Environment This position reports to the Senior Assistant Director of First Year Experience and works with a talented group of individuals who have a passion for student success. Within First Year Experience, this individual will work with staff in all levels including the Director, Senior Assistant Directors, Program Coordinators, Graduate Assistants, Office Manager, and student employees and volunteers. This position has extensive contact with partner offices across campus, as well as contact with corporate and community groups, alumni, and parents. This individual will advise and mentor several groups of undergraduate students including the camp facilitators, Connections Team, and students involved in the

Buckeye Book Community. Due to the significant number of events that occur during the evening and weekends, the coordinator will be expected to have a flexible schedule that includes the ability to travel several weeks during the year to conferences and to facilitate student programs off campus. This position offers a professional the opportunity to work for a nationally recognized office dedicated to helping students experience a smooth transition to college. Performance Objectives This position will be responsible for: Managing Camp Buckeye and Buckeye Adventures, outdoor pre-enrollment programs for entering freshmen and transfer students. This includes all aspects of program planning including logistics, budget oversight, selecting and training student facilitators, composing electronic and print advertisements, designing program curriculum, program implementation, and evaluation. Collaborating on the planning and implementation of the Buckeye Book Community. Participating in the book selection committee, leading campus-wide program implementation committees, and managing campus events including the annual author visit and service trip related to the book. Advising the First Year Connections Team, a group of sophomores who mentor at risk freshmen, plan and implement supplemental support programs, and coordinate the Scarlet Scramble, a 24-hour campus scavenger hunt. Attending and facilitating multiple off campus events a year (camping trips, service trips, conferences) including driving student participants. Embracing the complexity of Ohio State and its processes in order to accomplish objectives. Presenting and providing logistical support for admissions, yield, orientation, and other Enrollment Services programs. Contributing to the overall success of the FYE program including leveraging relationships with partners on campus, becoming a relevant and effective communicator, and working effectively with diverse staff and students. Requires successful completion of a background check. Completion of a bachelors degree and a masters degree (earned masters degree no later than summer 2013) in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, counseling or a related field; at least 2 years of graduate assistantship experience or 1 year full time work experience in higher education; valid drivers license. Knowledge of and experience in first-year experience and student transition; experience with programming planning and implementation at a four-year college or university; excellent communication skills including writing and public speaking. $36,000.00 - $40,000.00 Annually
