DEPARTMENT: CHEMICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY COURSE NAME: CHET 1710 PETROLEUM PROCESSING TECHNOLOGY LT : 3 LB: 3 CR.: 4 COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course deals with the study of petroleum origin, exploration, and its physical properties. Production process along with stabilization and storage of petroleum are discussed. It also explains physical refining processes like thermal and catalytic conversions, starting with distillation, catalytic cracking, alkylation, reforming and isomerization are described in a very comprehensive way. Treating processes, as well as other auxiliary operations of particular importance for the process of petroleum refining are mentioned. Laboratory activities mainly concentrate on petroleum products testing. PREREQUISITES: CHET 1610 Basic Chemistry CO-REQUISITES: None PREREQUISITES BY TOPIC: 1. Basic chemistry of hydrocarbon series available in petroleum, its physical properties and chemical reactions. 2. General principles of heat transfer and fluids flow. 3. Basic knowledge of industrial chemical engineering equipment.
