The next board meeting will be Tuesday,

It's Carol Doak in April!
You don't want to miss our April14th meeting. We
have someone very special coming ---CAROL DOAK.
Her presentation is "Paper Piecing, When, Why and
What If". Have you signed up for her paper piecing
workshops on April 14 & 15th?
She's a best-selling author, celebrated teacher and
lecturer and award-winning quiltmaker. Carol Doak
has greatly influenced the art and craft of quiltmaking
for more than a decade, both in the U.S. and
internationally. Carol Doak has been called the "Queen
of Paper Piecing"—she has raised the popularity of
paper piecing, her trademark technique, to heights
never before seen in the world of quiltmaking. Her
accomplishments include a sizable collection of
popular books, including Easy Machine Paper Piecing,
which was named by Quilter's Newsletter Magazine as
one of the 30 most influential books in the past 30
years. An impressive range of her beautiful blue-
ribbon quilts have been featured in several books, such
as Great American Quilts 1990 and The Quilt
Encyclopedia and on the cover's of Quilter's
Newsletter Magazine, Quilt World, Quilting Today,
Ladies' Circle Patchwork and McCall's Quilting.
Our guild meeting is April 14th, 7:00 pm at Holy
Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny.
Carol will be presenting two workshops while in
Ankeny, more information is on our website. Contact

President's Letter
What a busy time of year for our guild!!! We have our
challenge coming in May. June is the month for
Presidents Challenge and July is The Quilt Show;
donation quilts, Country Store, and quilts to show. I
know a lot of us work best under pressure but you can
turn in donations and country store early. HA HA HA
HA--not me either I'm alway last min. Early or
last minute all help is really appreciated. So what are
you doing reading this President's letter go, run, quilt!!
Don't run with your rotary cutter.
Remember June meeting is at a different location,
Ankeny Baptist Church. and we will have a Quilt
Show wrap up meeting in July but not til the21st.

Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes, March 10, 2009
There were 80 members and 6 guests.
In June we will be meeting at the Ankeny Baptist
Church, we will also be having a July meeting- July
21 (after the quilt show). We are up to 49 donation
quilts. We need to start making some bags- good job
ladies! No one should be at retreat before 9 AM on
Thursday. Tonight is the last day to sign up. The
checks have been given to Randi. Still one more spot
for the massage. Still need more Country Store items.
The entry forms deadline is June 9. The quilt was
shown- AWESOME JOB!! Becky McGregor has the
raffle ticket packets- see her after the meeting.
Carol Doak’s class will be here at the church. We had
a wonderfully showing of show and tell, block lottery,
door prizes, birthdays. With the snow storm up north
Pat Lucas didn’t make it, so we played Quilt –O and
had a lot of winners. Refreshments and fellowship
ended our meeting.

Ramona Tapper
at Roland-Story High School. Her name is Kaylee
Wellik. She has been suffering from Juvenile Arthritis
since she was 4 years old. As she enters the second
decade of having this disease she is working harder
and making a difference helping people with arthritis.
Her project that she is working on is a welcome kit for
new families diagnosed with arthritis. In the kit she is
including educational materials and home made quilts.
Her goal is to have 100 quilts by the end of 2010.
Depending on the success of this project the Iowa
Arthritis Foundation would like to eventually extend
this to more families.
Currently Kaylee's grandmother has been helping her
make these quilts. Since the quilts are geared to
children of all ages. Juvenile arthritis can strike
infants all the way to teenagers. They are looking
for fabric, batting, thread and even finished
quilts. They would even be willing to join any groups
that would like to make quilts for this project.

Wow—What a GEM!
AAQG's 2009 Raffle Quilt
The raffle quilt for 2009 was unveiled at the March
meeting. “Jewel Box” by Eleanor Burns was pieced
and quilted by Lanae Rohwer. It measures 83 x 98”.
It is a beautiful quilt—in shades of blue, green,
purple, red & white with a border.
Have you picked up your raffle tickets yet? The
guild member selling the most tickets wins a sewing
machine. A gift certificate will be awarded to the
guild member selling the winning ticket.
The raffle tickets cost $1.00 or 6 tickets for $5.00.
This is our guilds big fund-raiser---so PLEASE sell
your tickets!

The quilt show categories have changed alittle this
year. Be sure to pick up a handout at the guild
meeting with all the specifics! The Treasure Chest
category includes wearables, bags, miniatures, table
runners, quilted clothing, etc. Be sure to get the
details!
The quilt show entry form is in this newsletter. The
deadline for the entry forms is June 9th, 2009. Please

after the AAQG Show. Pam will be doing a 7-hour

Coconut Cranberry Bars
(greased 9x13x2 pan - 350 degrees for 25-28 min.)
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup butter or margarine (melted)
1 1/2 cups vanilla or white chips
1 1/2 cups dried cranberries
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
1 cup flaked coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
Combine cracker crumbs and butter. Press into a
greased 9 x 13 x 2 pan.
In a bowl combine the remaining ingredients. Mix
well. Spread gently over the crust. Bake at 350
degrees for 25 - 30 min.
