I. COURSE IDENTIFICATION Course Title IT Elective 1 Network and Server Administration Course Credit 3 Units Course Prerequisite Course Corequisite Course Description This course starts by explaining how to administer user, group and computer accounts and resources on computers running Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008 in a

networked environment. Typical resources include printer, disks and shared folder. Components of Microsofts Active Directory, including domains and organizational units are explored along with the objects within these components and their related permissions. These represent the typical processes that a systems administrator would carry out. This course continues by explaining the purpose and function of Group Policy in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008 environment. It also explains how to implement Group Policy Objects and use them to manage the user environment and methods of securing both data and the server. The remainder of the course explains the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) service and how Internet Protocol (IP) address are allocated, managed and monitored. Name resolution and allocation of computer names to IP addresses is explained with reference to host names. Finally, manage web service using Apache HTTP Server
II. COURSE OBJECTIVES General Objective This course will provide students with knowledge and skills required to manage accounts and resources, maintain server resources, monitor server performance and safeguards data in an environment such as Microsoft Windows Server 2003 / Microsoft Windows Server 2008. Specific Objectives On completion of this course, students should be able to : 1. Manage and maintain phydical and logical devices 2. Manage users, computers, and groups 3. Manage and maintain access to resources 4. Manage and maintain a server environment 5. Implement, manage and maintain Internet Prorocol (IP) addressing 6. Implement, manage and maintain name resolution 7. Implement, manage and maintain network security 8. Maintain a network infrastructure.
