Pg2 As the leading producer of high-technology goods, Taiwan is a hotspot for jobs and work opportunities. Like most countries, Taiwan has its own set of labor laws to maintain order and fairness in the workplace. These laws are outlined in Taiwan's Labor Standards Act and ensure such order is maintained in the Taiwanese work place. Pg3 Now I am going to talk about the 1984 Labor Standards Law, It supplies the basic legal definitions of worker, employer, wages, and contract, and outlines the rights and obligations of workers and employers. The law prescribes the minimum requirements for labor contracts. Pg4 Furthermore, it makes provisions for working hours, work leave, and the employment of women and children. The law offers protections against unreasonable work hours and forced labor, and grants workers the right to receive compensation for occupational injuries and layoffs, as well as a retirement pension. Pg5 Next, I will talk about the Labor Insurance Act, which was passed into law in 1958. It mandates the provision of insurance coverage to employees in the private sector , including industrial workers, journalists, fishermen and those working in and those working in non-profit organizations. Teachers and employees working in government agencies who are not eligible for teachers' or civil servants' insurance are also covered under this law.

Pg7 Further, the act requires the central government to encourage management, labor unions, and workers to negotiate reductions in working hours, wage adjustments, and in-service training to avoid layoffs, and for government to protect workers' rights during times of economic slowdown. The Employment Services Act also regulates public and private employment service agencies. Pg8 Now, I am going to talk about the employer duties, first, no other employer shall make another employer's employee perform work for them. Second, employers are to maintain worker record cards detailing both main and background information of employees, including name, sex, birth date, address, wage, merits and demerits, medical history and other significant facts.
