A. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This is the first lesson on the unit of the 13 colonies. Students will learn about what states make up the 13 colonies. B. D. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards H1.5.5 Describe the social, political, and religious lives of people in the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies. G5.5.4 Construct maps, graphs, and charts to display information about human and physical features in the United States. G6.5.2 Identify U.S. regions in which historical events occurred, i.e., thirteen colonies, Underground Railroad, and California gold fields.

E. Procedure: 1. When students come in class they will have a warm up. Students will have to list as many of the 13 colonies they know. As a class, we will go over all the correct answers and point out where they are on the map. 2. Students will be given the PowerPoint note sheet and are to fill it in as we go over the PowerPoint about the 13 colonies. The note sheet also has 4 questions students must answer and turn in. 3. We will read the book: The Thirteen Colonies (True Books: American History) and discuss the book versus the facts taught in the PowerPoint. Students will receive the Handout: Chart of the 13 Original 13 Colonies and the map of the 13 colonies. We will review the colonies and the location of each colony. Students are to use the computers to visit the website (http://mrnussbaum.com/13colonies/13regions/) to label and color the colonies according to the map given.

4. CLOSURE: As a class, we will discuss what colonies belong to which region and we will name the colonies and share their location. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? H1.5.5 Describe the social, political, and religious lives of people in the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies. I will use the answer the PowerPoint note sheet questions as well as our in class discussions to measure students understanding. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. H1.5.5 Describe the social, political, and religious lives of people in the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies. through the completion of their PowerPoint note sheet questions (formal) and through discussions (informal) I will be able to measure my students understanding. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think the entire lesson will be easy. I know the students have or should have some idea of what the 13 colonies are. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I do not think any part of this lesson will be challenging.

3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I would follow this lesson by going more in depth about each colony, which is what I plan to do in the lessons to come. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? We will review the material. I will as students to pinpoint what they do not understand, I will review additional material with them about it. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? None, this lesson is pretty simple and straight forward. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? Keeping the activities to a minimum was the most difficult task.
