Q1A. A Series motor with an unsaturated field and negligible resistance when running at a certain speed on a given load takes 50A at 460V. If the load torque varies as the cube of speed, calculate the resistance required to reduce the speed by 25%. (07) Q1B. Explain the construction and working Tachgenerators with a neat diagram. (06) Q1C. A shunt generator delivers 195 A at a terminal voltage of 250 V. The armature resistance and shunt filed resistance are 0.02 ohm and 50 ohm respectively. The iron and friction losses equal to 950 W. Find a) e.m.f generated b) Cu losses c) output of prime mover and d) all the three efficiencies (07)

Q2A. A 11 KV/230 V, 150 KVA, 50 Hz, single phase transformer has a core loss of 1.4 KW and full load copper loss of 1.6 KW. Determine a) the KVA load for maximum efficiency and the maximum efficiency b) the efficiency at half full load at 0.8 p.f lagging (07) Q2B. Derive the condition for saving of copper in an autotransformer (07) Q2C.A 3 phase, 50 Hz, transformer has a delta connected primary and star connected secondary, the line voltages being 22 KV and 400 V respectively. The secondary has a star-connected balanced load at 0.8 p.f lagging. The line current on the primary side is 5 A. Determine the current in each coil of the primary and in each secondary line. What is the output of the transformer in kW. (06)

Q3A.Show that in an induction motor the rotor input: power developed: rotor copper losses:: 1:(1-s):s where s is the fractional slip. (06) Q3B.A 4-pole, 400V,3-phase,50Hz induction motor runs at 1440r.p.m at 0.8p.f.lag and delivers an output of 10.8kW. The stator loss is 1060W and friction and windage losses are 390W. Calculate i)slip ii) rotor cu loss iii) rotor frequency and d) line current (07) Q3C. Explain the working of Direct on line starter for a three phase IM with a neat schematic. (07) Q4A. A 100 KVA, 3KV, 50Hz, 3 phase star connected alternator has an effective armature resistance of 0.2 ohm. A field current of 40A produces short circuit current of 200 A and an O.C voltage of 1040 V (line value).

Calculate the full load percentage regulation at a p.f of 0.8 lagging.
