Earth is the only place we can live in, but why dont we take better care of it?
Introduction
Earth has very limited resources that we need for our everyday life. Our main resource is fossil fuels. We need fossil fuels so that we can make electricity which is a need in everyones life. But why do we waste energy and ignore the fact that someday it is going to run out? In ISKL the Grade 8 math classes are doing a project that would hopefully lower down their families electricity consumption.
Making the equation for the fitted line: I first need to find two points that are on the fitted line. My two points are (3,1120) and (7,840). And what I do with these numbers is to put them into this formula: so my slope-intercept form would now be: y = -70x + b and to find be we put one of the ordered pairs in to substitute x and y. 1120 = -70(3) +b is simplified to: 1120 = -210 +b. Add 210 on both sides and you get the result: b = 1330 so altogether we have the equation: y = -70x + 1330. so in my case it is 1120-840/3-7 = 280/-4 the slope is -70. Now we put the slope in this equation y = mx +b
Making the prediction: The goal that we were supposed to reach was to get our KwH down till 300 KwH. How we can do this is to replace y with our goal, which is 300, and then solve for x. (x being the number of months). In my case it would look like: 300 = -70 x + 1330, then you would -1330 from each side to equal -1030 = -70 x then divide both sides by -70. Then x = 14.21... so it would take approximately 15 months more until I reach my goal, 300.
