Week Nine Final Project

Before I begin I would like to acknowledge that in order for me to write this essay, I went back
through the text. Starting with week three up to week eight, I pointed out all the main points and
quotes. So some material was used from the text. Some definitions were also used from the text.
One thing that I have learned if nothing else is that plagiarism is a serious matter.

Student Survival Guide

“He who cannot change the very fabric of his thought will never be able to change reality, and
will never, therefore, make any progress.” Quote by Anwar Sadat. In entering a distance learning
program you tend to learn a lot and concentrate more on the material. Being a student at Axia has
showed me that you can learn just as much as being in a classroom setting.

To begin, let’s start with Using Axia’s Educational Resources. Axia College has its very own
library. The library is a great source for students and staff. First of all it contains a Plagiarism and
Write point tutorial and Guide. The Plagiarism Checker, promotes originality in student work and
improves student writing and research skills. And the Write Point provides feedback on a basic
grammar and usage by inserting comments into the text. Next is the Center Of Writing
Excellence. This guide is an online writing lab designed to assist the University’s students in
developing essential written communication skills. Next is the eBooks. It contains the topics of
Business and Management, Education, General Studies, Health and Human Services,
Information Technology, and Doctoral. Then the library has a Center of Mathematics Excellence.
It helps you in mathematics and statistics classes, as well as providing information on how the
apply mathematic skills to your chosen field or profession. Tutorials and Guides are designed to
help students improve grammar and writing skills.

We as students need to uphold Academic Honesty. I believe that honesty is the value of speaking
truth and creating trust in the minds of others . Lying, lying by omission, fraud, and plagiarism
are all examples of this sort of behavior. (from the wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.) As
discussed in week four we need to maintain academic integrity in all aspects of academic life.
Such as classes, assignments, test, papers, projects, and relationships with students and faculty.
Violations of academic integrity such as turning in previously submitted work, using
unauthorized devices during an exam and providing unethical aid to another student , or getting
unauthorized help with a project constitutes a sacrifice of ethics that may bring serious
consequences. Even suspension from school. It is very important to be honest and trust worthy.
Now is the time to set and achieve goals. There are three elements in goal setting: your purpose,
which is what you want your work to accomplish. Know your audience: What do you need to
know about your readers to meet your communication purposes and theirs? Then know your
topic: what is the subject about which you will write. Make good writing a tool to achieve
academic and career goals. Start setting goal now, make a list of long term goals. These are goals
you plan to accomplish six months to a year. In order to pursue these goals make a list of short
term goals: goals that lead up to long term goals, a foundation. Prioritize goals. Start with values,
your personal situation and your time commitments.

Learn to manage time wisely. Prioritize your schedule. When we went through this chapter, week
six I learned to manage my time wisely. One I had to decide, what will make my life more stress
free. I went to working part time instead of full time. I learned to make more time for my
children. Such as with home work and play time up to dinner. Then I scheduled my class time.
My life is getting to be better. We need to find our comfort zones. If doing class work once you
put the kids to bed is the only time you can concentrate on your work assignment then do just
that. In time management just decide what better fits your profile.

In setting a profile for yourself and learning to use time wisely it gives you time to foster reading
comprehension and retention. In other words it give you time to build your vocabulary. The more
vocabulary you know the faster you can read and understand. When reading keep an open mind.
Expect to go through difficult chapters more than once. And know that some texts require extra
work and concentration. Define unclear concepts and ask yourself questions. As discussed in
week seven. I have learned that you do advance in your reading by learning new vocabulary even
the small word s that we think we know the definition to.

When reading apply your personality and learning styles. Perform a learning assessment on
yourself. This helps you determine the levels to which your eight intelligence's are developed. I
know you ask. What are the eight learning styles?

1. Bodily, Kinesthetic

2. Visual, Spatial

3. Musical

4. Interpersonal

5. Intrapersonal

6. Verbal, Linguistic
7. Logical, Mathematical

8. Naturalistic

I have learned that I have the personality and learning styles of Interpersonal and Intrapersonal.
This means that I pretty much wear my feelings on my sleeve. I love friendship and tend to get
personal with others , I worry about others feelings more than mine. I tend to self criticize. When
I need to work on being more musicaland logical. Be a better organizer. And perform better ways
to understand my reading. Whether it be drawing a map in my head or making up musical tones
to make reading more exciting. I can even take more notes on the reading material. You see I
learned my weaknesses and my strengths. As said by Charles Darwin: “It is not the strongest that
survives nor the most intelligent that survive. I t is the one that is the most adaptable to change.
