The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, young people and their families by providing a specialized continuum of services that enables them to reach their potential.

Vision 2016
The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh will be a nationally and internationally recognized leader in the provision of family-centered care and coordination of services for children and youth with special needs and for any child needing rehabilitation services.The hallmark of The Childrens Institutes legacy will continue to be an unwavering commitment to these children and their families.

Our Mission
We believe all children have unique needs and should grow up without illness or injury. With the support of the community and through our spirit of inquiry, we will prevent, treat and eliminate pediatric disease.

Vision and Mission


Our vision and mission is: To realize a state where children with disabilities regardless of gender, age or status enjoy all the basic rights for life to attain decent and self-dependant livelihood for their future life and participate all levels of human development and decision-making. To improve the potential of the children with special needs through the provision of special trainings, education, and skills for life and other specialized aids. Goals and objectives Contribute to the development, strengthening and supporting systems and services for children with special needs in the country and to create awareness among the families and other contributing partners to have a clear understanding on special needs. a. Act as a coordinating body for all families having children with disabilities through conducting scheduled meetings, discussion sessions and conferences in rehabilitation and improvement of disabilities. 'Creating a positive reaction'. b. To empower all parents having children with special needs with new skills and knowledge of rehabilitation techniques encouraging them not to keep their affected children inside houses hiding from the view of the people and advising to take them to the available rehabilitation centre. c. To work to cover the need of the children with disabilities through the establishment of facilities for rehabilitation centers as required in all regions of Somaliland.

d. To undertake awareness rising targeting the elimination of traditional bad views towards disabilities. e. Guidance and counseling for parents and other members from the families of children with disabilities. More than 400 persons have received these services through our projects. f. Medication to needy children. About 40 per cent f the children attending our school and those on the home training programme have additional health problems and require medical attention. In this respect we have been procuring the medication for those who require and are unable to afford.

g. Physiotherapy has been offered to some of the children with physical disabilities in the schools and in the home training programme. h. Other support includes physical, equipment and learning materials to other institutions such as Salahley Boarding School through Ministry of Education.

Mission Our mission is to identify students who meet the federal and state criteria as a student with a disability requiring special education and to provide services that empower them to become active members of society based on their individual strengths and abilities. We are committed to providing a caring community of dedicated staff and involved parents that meets the diverse academic, emotional, and social needs of all of our students in a respectful and positive environment. Vision By providing positive learning experiences that facilitate success for students in special education through high-quality instruction, as well as collaboration with parents, students, schools, and the community, students will focus on their positive attributes and recognize their individual strengths

and achievements to promote their future success.

To support the families of children with special needs and learning difficulties. To increase public and professional awareness of learning difficulties and the need for early detection, proper diagnosis, appropriate recommendations, help and treatment.

To promote increased cooperation and understanding among parents, schools and specialist professionals. To increase parental and professional awareness of services available within the community. To promote research in the area of learning disabilities. To monitor legislative issues, to establish and carry out strategies as they pertain to learning disabilities in Switzerland.

established a wide-spread and well-earned reputation as an exemplary philanthropic organization made a positive difference in our community enhancing the future of the children served by KidsAbility and the families who have entrusted them to us raised sufficient funds for KidsAbility Centre for Child Development to fulfill its mission by meeting the needs of all those who have been referred to receive the services it offers enhanced the awareness of KidsAbility as well as the respect and support for its services and, in so doing, extended its base of financial support to enable it to meet the needs of all those entrusted to it into the foreseeable future established a reputation that will continue to attract a high-profile, diverse, collegial, convivial, and effective cadre of volunteers both to the Foundations Board and its support staff in order to ensure a productive future for the Foundation
