With CC yarn, work 5 rows even, then BO loosely. Place the 18 remaining live collar stitches on your needles, and with CC yarn and WS facing, begin this pattern: *R1: work even R2: K2tog, work to last 2 stitches, SSK* Repeat between ** 4 [3] times until 10 [12] stitches remain on needles. Work 6 [7] rows even. Starting with next row, Kfb of rst and last stitch of every row for 10 [11] rows. BO loosely. Finishing: Work in all loose ends. Seam the BO edge of this center back section of CC yarn to the center back section of MC yarn using a scrap length of MC yarn and a whipstitch (see picture below).

The whipstitch allows for an end-to-end seam, leaving no bulky seam allowance on the inside of the vest. Because of the weight of this yarn, mattress stitch is not recommended.

To nish the front, lace CC yarn up the front on both sides, starting at the bottom as you would a shoelace, using a tapestry needle. Alternatively, you could sew three or 4 toggle clasps or buckles to the outside of the vest, or tie it separately in several places. You could even install a zipper along the split line if you are feeling adventurous. Experiment with whatever closure suits you best.
