B6: WOOD CARPENTRY

B. REFERENCES All carpentry shall conform to the specification in: NI 3 1970, NI 5 1961, SII 0458 81. C. SUBMITALS 1. 2. 3. General: Submit following items in accordance with Section A6. Product data: Manufacturers technical literature for factory fabricated items and components. Shop Drawing: a. Indicate profiles, section and views of stock items as well as specially fabricated items for the work at scale large enough to permit checking for design conformity. b. Indicate sizes, quantities, marking, materials, wood species, finishes and accessories. c. Include assembly and installation drawings to show methods of blocking, fastening, bracing, jointing and connecting to work of other trades. Samples: a. Two samples of each type and species of wood /plywood and finish lumber specified, complete with applied finish and quality of jointing. b. Each type of hardware and fastening device required in the construction of the work specified herein.

D. QUALITY ASSURANCE Fabrication Standard: Fabricate items in accordance with PKKI standard listed bellow using custom grade unless noted otherwise. E. 1. 2. 3. 4. F. 1. 2. DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING Deliver, store, handle and protect in accordance with the standard references. Protect material from damage, soiling, and damages. Do not deliver finish carpentry materials until job site conditions and operations which could damages, soiling or deteriorate work are complete. Store products and material in ventilated, interior location under constant minimum temperature of 33 o C and relative humidity not to exceed 55%. ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS Install finish carpentry products only when temperature and humidity conditions have been stabilized and will be maintained. Maintain temperature and moisture conditions as recommended by woodwork fabricator from date of installation through remainder of construction period.

PART II : PRODUCT A. MATERIALS 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Comply with quality and grading standard contained herein for each material. Sizes noted on drawings or indicated herein for all carpentry work are nominal unless detailed by specific dimension of actual size. Plywood thickness, see ID drawings. Wood having specific grain motif shall have 4 even and straight sides and be of the sizes required by drawings, to be used for skirting and ceiling work. Wood shall be free from flaws or damages, unhealthy wood eyes, hole, cracks, etc. Wood shall be worked following the patterns and grain as indicated on drawings or as specified or as directed by the Architect. The timber shall be grade A according to PUBI 19982 Teak Wood (tektona grandis), equal jati east Java and dry kiln processed, with durability class 1 II and strength class of II according to NI 5 (PKKI-78). Absolute bending stress shall be 130 kg/cm2, absolute compression stress shall be 110 kg/cm2 and modulus elasticity shall be 125,000 kg/cm2. Moisture content: At the time of delivery to the site shall have maximum moisture content of 17 % for member more than 2.5 cm thick and maximum 11 % for members less than 2.5 cm thick. Teak plywood: Not less than 3 piles for 4 mm thick and more for thicker members, typical sheet size: not less than 122 x 244 cm. Good surface and free from holes and voids, conforming to SII.0404-80. Water resistance adhesive and bonded shall be high and pressure process, conforming to SII. 0778-83.

B. ACCESSORIES AND TREATMENT 1. 2. 3. Contact adhesive: waterproof adhesive such as Aica Aibon, Herferin brand or equal approved. Wall adhesive: Solvent release cartridge type, compatible with substrate, capable of achieving durable bond. Bolts Nuts, Washers, Lags, Pins, Nails and screw: Size and type to suit application shall be galvanized as per NI 5 chapter VI clause 14, 15 and 17.

C. SHOP FABRICATION 1. 2. Shop fabricates assemblies in accordance with AWI custom standard. Sanding/ Filling: a. Perform work in accordance with AWI. b. Sand works smooth and set exposed nails and screws. c. Apply wood filler in exposed nail and screw indentations and leave ready to receive applied finishes. d. On items to receive transparent finishes, use wood filler which matches surrounding surfaces and of types recommended for applied finishes. 3. Prime seal concealed and semi concealed surfaces. Brush applies only. 4. Provide cut outs for plumbing fixtures, inserts, appliances, outlet boxes and other fixtures. Verify locations of outlets from site dimension. Seal edge surfaces of cutouts. 5. Before proceeding with millwork required to be fitted to other construction, obtain measurements and verify dimension of shop drawing details for accurate fit. 6. Fabricate woodwork to dimension, profile and details shown. 7. Route or groove back of flat trims members. 8. Assemble in mill in as large of units as practicable to minimize field cutting and fitting. 9. Miter joints, where required, by joining, splicing and gluing to complying with requirements for specified grade. 10. Mill wood moldings to shapes, patterns and sizes indicated. D. FINISHES Painting finishes specified in section B8.

PART III : EXECUTION A. EXAMINATION 1. 2. 3. Verify that surface openings and conditions are ready to receive work of this section. Notify Architect of any existing conditions, which will adversely affect execution. Beginning of execution will constitute acceptance of existing conditions. Verify that field measurements are shown on shop drawings. Verify that mechanical, electrical and other items affecting work of this section are in place and ready to receive the work.

B. PREPARATION 1. 2. Prime paint or seal concealed surfaces and items of assemblies, which will be in contact with cementitious materials or surfaces. Make field cuts with extreme care to avoid damages.

C. INSTALLATION 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. 17. Install using skilled workmen in accordance with manufacturers printed instructions and recommendations. Handle materials to avoid dents and other damages. Set and secure materials and components, rigid, plumb and square. Shim as required using concealed shims. Cut to fit to exact size. Where woodwork abuts other finished work, scribe and cut for accurate fit. Where necessary to fit at site, provide ample allowance for cutting and fitting. Before making cut out, drill pilot holes at corner. Distribute defects allowed in quality grade to best overall advantage when installing job assembled woodwork items. Install trim and molding in enjoined lengths for openings and for runs less than maximum length of timber available. Stagger joints in adjacent members. Cope moldings at returns and miter at corner. Attach woodwork securely in place with uniform joints providing for thermal and building movements, hidden nails where possible. Use finishing nails where exposed. Set exposed nails heads for filling. Secure woodwork to anchors built in blocking or directly attach to substrates. Preparing for Finish: a. Clean woodwork and fill nail holes. Sand to smooth finish. b. Where woodwork is to receive transparent finish, use matching wood filler. Install hardware in accordance with manufacturers recommendations On field applied laminate work: a. Apply plastic laminate finishes where indicated. b. Adhere with adhesive over entire surface. Make joints and corners hairline. c. Cap exposed edges with plastic laminate of same finish and pattern. d. Apply laminate backing sheet on reverse side of plastic laminate finished surfaces.

D. TOLERANCES FOR FIELD ASSEMBLIES/JOINED ITEMS 1. 2. Maximum variation from true position: 1/16 inch. Maximum offset from true alignment with abutting materials: 0.75 mm.
