Split-Desktop Version 3.

1 Software Installation Procedure


1. If you have Split-Desktop Version 2.0 and are upgrading to Version 3.1, please uninstall and delete Version 2.0 from your computer before proceeding with the following steps. Go to Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs, as well as delete the old folder from your Program Files directory. 2. Place compact disk in the CD-ROM drive. If the CD does not Auto-Start, then double-click on the setup.exe on the CDROM to install Split-Desktop onto your computer. 3. Physically connect the USB Protection Key (dongle) to your computer. When the dongle is attached to the computer, Split-Desktop should run. Should you experience any problems, please contact Split Engineering for support at: techsupport@spliteng.com. 4. If upgrading from Version 2.0 to Version 3.1, your computer should recognize the Version 2.0 dongle and prompt you with a dialog box. This dialog box will have a Request Code. Please send this code to Split Engineering at techsupport@spliteng.com. An Activation Code will be returned that will re-program your current dongle to work with Version 3.1. Note: After being re-programmed, the dongle will no longer open nor work with Split-Desktop 2.0. Also old binary images created in Split-Desktop 2.0 will not be able to be opened and processed in Split-Desktop 3.1 5. For introductory instructions on how to operate Split-Desktop: Please consult the Tutorial on the CD-ROM for a brief overview of how to operate Split-Desktop. The tutorial is about 15 minutes long. Please consult the Quick-Start Guide in the Help File or in the User Manual for brief step-by-step instructions. There are sample images and a sample Split-Desktop project file on the CD-ROM.

Facts About the Split-Desktop Version 3.1 Protection Key


1. The Split-Desktop software program is sold as a single user license. 2. Each single software license is sold with one (1) Protection Key (dongle) that allows only one installation of the software program to be utilized on one computer at any given time. 3. The software program will not run without the Protection Key attached to the computer. 4. The software program may be loaded on numerous computers, however, see number 3 above. 5. To enable two separate users to utilize Split-Desktop simultaneously on two computers, a second software license is required. 6. A second software license requires a second separate Protection Key.

Based on the above facts, it is clear that the Protection Key (dongle) is a very valuable piece of physical hardware. This hardware enables the use of the software. Without the Protection Key, the software is inoperable. A loss or disappearance of the Protection Key is the same as losing the software. Employ practical measures to ensure retention of the Protection Key. Procure insurance to protect the Protection Key in case of theft or loss. In case of theft or loss, Split Engineering cannot provide replacement Protection Keys at a reduced price or free of charge any more than any manufacturer would replace your lost physical hardware item in the same manner.
