I contacted substitute teacherGeorge Sneddonand askedhim aboutIris observations on 04-20-99. Sneddon told me thathe was
teaching a class in the LM-I classroom. Sneddonstated that he heardthe lire alarmand beganto evacuate his class. The class
entered into LM-2 classroom. thenexitedthe west door ofLM-2. They then turned north andwentto the tenniscourts. Sneddon
nelpedstudentsover the fence whichwas locatednear the tennis courtsso thatthe students could go to ClementPark. Sneddon
stated thel he did not see any suspectsduring this time.

On Monday, 08-09-99, at approximately 1207 hours, I contacted witness Sneddon by telephone at his residence. I asked him
'0 provide me any information he could reference to fifth houractivities on 04-20·99. He indicated on that particularday he wa
a substitute teacher assigned to the Home Economics class and was specifically in Room #2 during fifth hour that day. He
indicatedthat the room was particularly noisy and did not hear anything significant other than the fire alarm sounded. At this time
he instructedhis students,numberingabout twenty-five plus or minUs, to go into tbe 1M Room # I and exit throughthat particula
fire door which leads out onto the tennis courts on the northwest side ofthe building. He indicated that once the students Wet
out he h.imself exited the school after turning off the stoves in his classroomas to the fact that he does not know how long he wa
going to have to remain outside for the fire drill. He indicatedthat he began moving northward towards the tennis courts wee
he heard someonesay,"They're still shooting." He dicinot knowwho had said this,and he indicatedthat he was also told shortI
after this time by other teachers to escort the kids into the Clement Park area as to their possibly being a person with a gun up
on the roof. He indicated that he had approached a chain link fence, approximatelySeven feet tall and began helping'student
over the fence. He said that while he was outside, he could hear distinct poppingnoises, but indicatedthat he thought they wer
firecrackers and was not told until taterthat it was actually gunfire corningfrom the building. He said that he moved his student
through the Clement Park area and had staged there when he was asked by numerous students if they could go home. He
indicated that some ofthem lived nearby and was at that time agreed upon to let whatever students leave that wanted to leave
He said that be stayed in Clement Park and talked to numerous students for support. Witness Sneddon said that he had
-reviously taught Earth Science at Columbine High School for twelve years and had since moved to substitute teacher status.

He said that he received a ride homefrom an unknown individual who he described as a nurse from Arvadawho was offerin
rides. He said that he arrived homeat approximately 1730 to 1800 hours, While still on scene. witness Sneddon said that he
did not seeany smokeor fire coming from the building, did not see actually anyone can;ringor usinga gun. He indicated tho
he knew Eric Harrisand Dylan Klebold verywell and ~ themtwoof his best friends. He indicated that he had the
both in class and said that theywerealways politeand cordial to him, indicating that Dylan had one time told him that he was
on eof the fewpeoplethat actually evertalkedto him. He saidthathe knewthat theywere in the group known as Trench Coa

INVESTIGATION:

On Thursday, 07-15-99. at approximately 1120 hours, I contacted witness Zerr by telephone at her residence. I told her that I
was interviewing facility and staffof theschool and wanted to speak withher in reference to any information she could provide
whileat school on 04-20-99. Witness Zerr toldme the following information. She said that during fifth tbat is herbreak period
and she was in her office. She said at some point and couldnot be specific as to any particular time, she heardthe fire alarm
sound where at that time she and another substitute teacher. identified as George Sneddon. began 10 evacuate students through
the classroom to the north part of the school. She saidthat these students werebeing evacuated from both halls and adjacent
classrooms. She said that an unidentified female student approached her and said something to the effect, "Mrs. Z, they're
shooting everybody." She said thatshecontinued in a northdirection toward the smokers pitarea where she observed principal
Frank DeAngelis running back andforth from thatarea into theschool. tryingto evacuate students from the gym area. She said
thatshe was told not to go in there in, someone was saying to move away from the buildingand don't get yourselfblocked in.
She was still rather uncertain as to what the situation was and indicated that she. along with numerous students and teachers
proceeded over thechain link fence and walked toward the parking lot in Clement Park near South Pierce Street. Shesaid that
she alongwith other students and teacherwerehiding behind parked cars and was asked by several studentsif they couldJUSt
get In their cars and leave. She indicated that police had approached her andcontinued to tell her and other individuals to keep
moving away from the building as there may hea person with a gun on theschool roof, Shesaidthateventually sheandanother

parents were beginning to show up at that location. She said that the library staffhad made arrangements for individuals to go
into. back room and stay with Columbine students. She said that she began to help in making a list of which students were at
the library and try to coordinatewhich students were at LeawoodElementary as parents began asking questions as to where their
children were. She said eventually police showed up over there and took over that particular student roster responsibility. She
said that she stayed at the library until about 1730to 1800 hours, where at that point she made arrangements for her husband to
pick her up from that location. WitnessZerr could not reallyprovideany more information or account of this incidentother than
to say while she was on scene, she did not see any people carryingor using guns. She did not hear any shooting or explosions.

posted tbat morning,had no prior knowledgeof the groupknownas Trench COal Mafia, however,did know several students who
wore long, black trench coats. She said that she had never had any direct contact with Eric Harris or Dylan Klebold. Witness

Narrative;
On 6-23-99 I spoke with Albertsen who told me that on 4-20-99 he was in his Weights class when someone
came into the class and got the teacher (Mr. Marshall). Soon afterthis the fire alarm went off and the class
walked outside. Once outside Albertsen heard 2-3 explosions andteachers were telling them to "go, go,
go". Afterthis they ran to the smokers pit theninto Clements Park. Albertsen did not hear or see anything
else.

Albertsen further told me that he did not know either Harris or Klebold.

Columbine library and allegedly saw one of the subjects whoadvised he had graduated from
CHS last year and that he was comingbackon 04120199 to initiate the incident. This individual
also had a web site, "RebeI.COM". Stephanie BRESEE (Control number 3735) was also present
with BARKER at Columbine library.

She said Stephanie BRESEE, who was with her at the library following the shooting mighthave
further.

BARKER was in 5"' hour P.E. class at the timethe shooting started. She was outsidethe gym
doors in the hallway. She recalls that Mr. DeANGELIS directedthem to go into the gym. She
recalls seeing smokein the hall, and that the students bid in an equipment closetfor 10 or 15
minutes, then they wentout the back gym doors,and ran to the park, After that theywentto the
Columbine library.

On 6·30-99, at approximately0900 hours. J contacted witness Baumgartnerby telephoneand asked her to provide any pertinent
information relevant to this case.

She advised me at about l l l S hours. on 4-20.99. she was in the training room locatedoff the gym area with two students, She
advised at about that time a taculty member Joe Marshall, a P,E, teacher in the building came by and said to "get down on all
fours. and get back," She was unsure as to what was going on at the time and thought it was something related to wirnes
Marshall', P,E. class, She said about 30 seconds later she heard a series or approximatelysix to ten gunshots. and advised that
they were very distinct, coming from the main hallway located behind her class room, She said about that time the fire alarm
went off and she had turned off the lights and had locked the two students in a training room, She and another staff member.
Chris McCauley. roamedbackand forth betweenthe hallways adjacentto her room, She advised she did not specificallysec any
people with guns, and she had went into the weight room. She advised she looked out the window and saw several students
running out of the building and discussed the situation with Chris McCauley and decided to exit the building at that time, She
unlocked the class room and had the two students exit that room as well as about 20-25 students exit Chris McCauley's class
room and they went out the weight room door, She said at that point she saw principal Frank DeAngeles (ukn spellingJ_ He
advisedher that students were still in the gym. and she went back into the gym through the weight room doors, She said that Joe
Marshall was also in the area and told her to help a student that was laying or. the pathway somewhere near the area, Wimess
Baumgartnercould not provide a specific location. She said she saw a police car in the area and she was advised by an officer
to stay away from the building, She said she men ended up in the northarea in Clement Park and stayed there all day; specifically
where tape had been cordoned off. She said she just generallyassisted studentsand teachers stay calm. At approximately 1830

Crystal M. Bragazzi, DOB 05/18/1981, 7053 South Owens
Way, Littleton, Colorado, telephone (303)932-7855, a senior at
Columbine High School, was interviewed at her home in the
presence of her parents, Mark and Cindy Bragazzi, by Special
Agent (SA) Ricky v. wright regarding the incident that took place
on 04(20(1999 at Columbine High School. After being advised as
to the identity of the interviewing agent and the nature of the
interview, Bragazzi provided the following information:
At the time of the shooting, Bragazzi was in her 5th
period girls physical education class in the gymnasium area.
Bragazzi is a teachers assistant that period. The teaoher of the
class is Kris Macauley. There were 32 girls in the class and one
other teacher's assistant. At approximately 11:45 am, the girls
in the class were leaving the gymnasium area and walking down the
liall toward the main hall. The front girls saw two gunmen in the
main hall and turned and ran back into the gymnasium and told the
teacher. Bragazzi was at the back of tne group with the teacher
and did not see the gunmen. The teacher herded the class into
the wrestling room just off of the gym. There was also a boys
weight class in the gym area and they joined the girls class.
Another teacher. Mr. Marshall, pulled the :f ire ala..-m. The two
classes went from the wrestling room into the adjacent weight
room and then exited the school out the weight room e:ltit. Once
outside the school, the class proceeded to Clement Park. As far
as Bragazzi knew, the gunmen did not try to get into the
gymnasium.
While at Clement Park, at approximately 12:15 pm,
Bragazzi saw Chris Morris and another unknown individual drive up
in a rusty red, older model, hatchback. He was wearing the green
beret that he usually wears. MOrris seemed in a hurry to get to
the school and was angry that the police would not let him drive
through to the school.
Rebecca Heins was in Sragazzi's Sth period physical
education class that day. Sragazzi knows that Heins is a friend
of Eric Harris, Dylan Klebold, and Brooks Brown. Heins dressed
in workout clothes that dey, but also wore a black scarf around
her neck. When asked by the teacher, Kris Macauley, if she would

Crystal M. Bragazzi
remove the scarf, Heins responded that she could not. Bragazzi
has never seen Heins wear a black scarf like that before.
Bragazzi was also in the cafeteria briefly during 2nd
hour. She just walked through the cafeteria and did not sit
down. Bragazzi said there were about 50 students in the
cafeteria at that time. - Bragazzi did not notice any large duffle
bags sitting on the floor.
Bragazzi has a 3rd period philosophy class with Eric
Harris and a 4th period creative writing class with both Eric
Harris and Dylan Klebold. Bragazzi knew ll.a=is from her
sophomore year when they worked on some school projects together.
Since that time, Bragazzi has not associated with Harris. This
year, Harris has acted like he did not even know Bragazzi and
would not respond if she said hello. Eric Harris sat by Rebecca
Heins and Brooks Brown in philosophy. Harris was not in class
the day of the shooting. On that day, Brooks Brown sat in
Harris' seat so he could sit by Rebecca Heins. Brown got in an
argument with the philosophy teacher that day and seemed glad
that he had made the teacher mad.
Bragazzi did not know that Harris was a member of the
Trenchcoat Mafia. Bragazzi described the Trenchooat Mafia as a
group of outcasts. Bragazzi had heard that those 'seeking to join
the Trenchcoat Mafia had to do strange sexual things to become a
member.
Bragazzi's friend, Athana Lagos, told Bragazzi that she
was in the school library at the time of the shooting.
On the day of the shooting, Bregazzi was wearing blue
jeans, a black and white shirt, and sandals.

BRESEE was interviewed on May 26, 1999at her residence, in me presence of her mother,
Laura BRESEE.

BRESEE said she was in 5'" hour P.E. class at me timethe shootingstarted. She was by the
gym, leaving the wrestlingroom, to go outside to playsoftball She was right by me main doors
to the gym. She recalls Mr. DeANGELIS running by and tellingme students to go into me gym,
but she thought there was a senior prank going on. and didn't want to go inside.

Then she saw one of me suspectsin the hall, wearing a trench coal. She thinks she sawa second
suspect,wearing white. She said they were in the hall, walkingawayfrom the area of the office,
toward the library. At that time she ran into the gym. where she and adler students hid in an
equipment room until about 11:45. AI that time the principal and the gym teachertold them to
leave, and they ran to the park, men to Columbine Library.

While they were at the library, BRESEEsaid she was crying. and a girl came up to her to help
her. BRESEE said me girl told her mat she (the girl) had been told by one of her friends mat a
boy who graduated last year (1997-1998 school year) said that the incidenthad been planned for
a year.

Initially, BRESEE did not want ro tell me the nameof the girl who helped her, thenidentified her
as SallyMELFI, a junior. (Leadgenerated).

On 6.15-99 I spoke with Bruchis who told me that On 4-20-99 he was in his Weights class when he saw another

teachercome into the class and get Mr. Marshalltelling him that a kid was shooting a paint ball gun in the commons
area. Bruchisthen heard the fire alarm and left the building. As they got outside a female art teacher was yelling at
them to gel away from the school and at this time Bruchis hearda "big boom", Bruchis then ran to the smokerspit.
He heard some more explosions then a "rat tat tal" sound, He ran to ClementsPark and left the area. Bruchisneither
heard or saw anything further.

Bruchisfurther told me that he did recognizeboth Harris and Kleboldin the hallwaysbut never spoke with themand
did not have any classes with them,

THE BODY SHAPINGGYM CLASS. THE PRINCIPAL, FRANK DEANGELIS,
CAME RUNNING IN AND INSTRUCTED THE STUDENTS TO GET iN THE GYM.
PRINCIPAL DEANGELIS PUT ROBINAND 14 OTHER STUDENTS INTO A
CLOSET ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE GYM. THE PRINCIPAL RETURNED
APPROX 10 MINUTES LATER BRINGING:2 OTHER GYM TEACHERS WITH HIM.
THE STUDENTS WERE THEN INSTRUCTED TO RUN OUT AND AWAY FROM
THE BUILDING.

AT 1630 HOURS ON APRIL 27, 1999 I WENT TO 5123 S. CODY CT. TO CONDUCT
AN INTERVIEW WITH NATALIE BAKER WHO IS A STUDENT AT COLUMBINE HIGH SCHOOL,
AND WAS IN THE CAFETERIA AT TIlE TIME OF THE SHOOTING ON APRIL 20TH. WHILE
WE WERE INTERVIEWING NATAL!E A SECOND TEENAGE FEMALE WAS PREseNT. TOWARD
THE END OF THE INTERVIEW WITH NATALIE, NATALIE'S MOTHER DEBEIE BAKER, ASKED
THE SECOND SUBJECT "ASHLEY YOU SAW THEM, TOO". AT THIS TIME THE SECOND
FEMALE SUBJECT IDENTIFIED HERSELF AS ASHLEY EGELAND, A NINTH GRADER AT
COLUMBINE HIGH SCHOOL.

ASHLEY STATED THAT SHE WAS IN THE GYM WITH A GYM CLASS WHEN THEY HEARD
SHOTS COMING FROM THE AREA OF THE LIBRARY. ASHLEY SAID THAT
SHE WALKED INTO THE NORTH CORRIDOR FROM THE GYM CORRIDOR. AT THIS TIME SHE
MET A GIRL SHE KNOWS ONLY AS "LACEY" WHO WAS RUNNING TOWARD HER (TO THE
EAST). "LACEY" WAS SHamING TIlEY'VE GOT GUNS AND ARE SHOOTING PEOPLE. AT
THIS TIME ASHLEY STATED THAT SHE OBSERVED TWO MALE SUBJECTS COMING AROUND
THE CORNER OF THE LIBRARY HALL INTO THE NORTH HALL. ASHLEY ADVISED THAT
BOTH SUBJECTS WERE ARMED. ACCORDING TO ASHLEY AS SOON AS BOTH SUBJECTS
SAW HER AND "LACEY" THEY STARTED SHOOTING AT THEM. ASHLEY SAID THAT THEY
BOTH RAN BACK DOWN THE GYM HALL AND INTO THE GYM. THERE THEY HID IN A
SMALL ROOM OFF THE GYM FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN EXITED THE
BUILDING BY WAY OF THE WEIGHT ROOM. ASHLEY SAID THAT THE CLASS RAN ACROSS
THE SCHOOL GROUNDS AND INTO CLEMENT PARK. ASHLEY ESTIMATED THAT SHE WAS 15
TO 20 FEET FROM THE MALES WHEN THEY STARTED SHOOTING AT HER.

ACCORDING TO ASHLEY BOTH MALES WERE TALKING AND LAUGHING AMONG

THEMSELVES. SHE ADVISED THAT WHEN THE MALES NOTICED HER AND LACEY THEY
SAID NOTHING BEFORE THEY STARTED SHOOTING. ASHLEY ADVISED THAT WHE..."1 SHE

DOES NOT PERSONALLY KNOW ANYONE INVOLVED WITH THE TRENCH COAT MAFIA NOR
DOES SHE ASSOCIATE WITH THEM. SHE DID ADVISE THAT SHE HAS HAD CONTACT
WITH THEM IN SCHOOL WHEN SHE Bv~PED INTO ONE ACCIDENTALLY, SHE APOLOGIZED
AND WENT ON HER WAY. SHE ADVISED THAT THE MEMBERS OF THE GROUP HAD A
HABIT OF INTIMIDATING OTHER STUDENTS.
ASHLEY SAID THAT SHE HAD TOLD HER PARENTS ABOUT THE SHOOTING BUT SHE
HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED BY ANYONE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT BEFORE APRIL 27TH.
SHE DID ADVISED THAT SHE HAD DONE SEVERAL INTERVIEWS WITH CHANNEL SEVEN.

On May 6, 1999 at 1030 hours I met with Ashley Ruth Egeland (dab 111·20·83) and her
mother, Sharon Egeland (pager303-212.2475), at 8900 West Progress Drivein littleton,
Colorado for the purpose of an interview.

AshleyRuthEgeland provided the following information aboutthe Columbine High

School incident, which occurred on April 20, 1999:

• The following is a history on how witness Ashley Egeland is familiar with Dylan
Klebold, Eric Harris and .

Dvlan Klebold:

• Has seenDylan with Eric Harrison several occasions around schoolinvolved in the
video filming for the Rebel News Network.

· Dylan cameinto her Scienceclass with Eric Ranis and askedMs. Wyatt "howshe
wanted her Web Page designed" or words 10 that effect.

• Has seen Dylan around schoolon several occasions in a trench coat and was
"pointed outby her friends as Dylan".

- Recognizes Dylan as "having a broadernose, taller and not as scrawny as Chris

Moms".

Eric Harris:

• Has seen Eric Harris about ten (10) times around school wearing a trench coat.

• Ashley stated that "helf the classran towards the girls lockerroom and half of the
classran to the wrestlingroom". She statedthat "Lacey fell at the corner of the halls"
(sidehall that runs north I south and the main hall that runs east I west). Ashley
stated that she "ran to help Lacey get up".

• Ashley stated that when she reached the comers of the hall (see attached diagram)
that she lookedaroundthe comer and saw the "two gunmen". Ashleystated that
"Lacey's back. was towards the gunmen" and "doesn't know if she (Lacey) saw their
faces or not" at that particulartime.

• Lacey stated that she was "about 20 or 25 feet from them" at that time. She stated
that diehall was "not dark" and that the "fire strobes wen:going off". It shouldbe
notedthat this investigator did walk across the room to determine the approximate

fashion". We labeledthe gunmen as I; I and I; 2 with I; I being on Ashley's left
(south side of the hall) and # 2 on Ashley's right (northside of the hall). She gave the
following description of gunman I; I:

- Whitemaleabout 6 feet tall with a non-descript build.

- Dirty blonde hair about one inch long on top, "sana like a spike".
- Wasnot wearing anything on his head, no facial hair and no glasses.
- Had on a black ttench coat, "about twoor three inchesabove die top of his
boots",
- Had on black boots
- Had on a black T'-shirt, but "it could have been something over a shirt, like a shirt
overa shirt". Nothing printed on the shirt,
- The black trench coat was open in the front and the pocketson the coat "were
bulgingwith something".
- Statedthat gunman # I looked "SOrIa fat aroundthe middleand it could have been
what he was wearing".
• Pantswere dark and could have been a "camouflage type, either dark brownor daJ::k
green". Feels that there was "somelight color in the pants", but can not describe
any further.
- Carrying a "long gun", about "24 inches long and black". Showed this investigator

contact regarding this incident. Included with this report is the diagram that Ashley drew
her location at the time she observed the gunmenand a brief written statementthat she
saw Harris and Morris as the shooters in the hall.

I have also attached Detective Steffes(LPD)report (dated April 27, 1999)regardinga

similarinterview with witness Egeland. Detective Steffesdid state that he forgot to
include in his reportthat Ashleymentioned - . . . wearingglasses at the time of

INVESTIGATION:

On 10-07-99. between the hours ofl540 and 1650.1 had an opportunity to re-interview Ashley Egeland. DOBI1I-20-83, at the
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. in reference to information she had passed on to Dan Pfannenstiel, who is an investigator
with the West Metro Fire Department and Tim Steffes, who is an agent with the Lakewood Police Department in reference to
her observations and identification o f _ being one of the gunmen at Columbine High School on 04-20-99, Also
present during the interview were Ashley's parents. Richard and Sharon Egeland and her sister. Heather Egeland.

I questioned Ashley about statements that she had made '0 Agent Tim Steffes when he interviewed heron 04-27-99. During
that interview Ashley told Agent Steffes that she was not sure o r " ' i d e n t i t y until she was shown a Columbine year
book. at which time. she P i c k e d ' - ' u t of the book as one ofthe shooters involved. She also reiterated that she was
positive that the other gunman that she saw at the high school was Eric Harris. I showed Ashley Agent Steffes' report, at which
.me she confirmed that it wasn't until she saw the year book that she positively identified ~s the other gunman.
1referred Ashley back to the interview she had with Dan Pfannenstiel on OS.()6--99 control number 2913, at which time she told
Investigator Pfannenstiel that the two gunmen she saw inside Columbine High School were Eric Harris and ~ I
asked Ashley if she believes she could have made a mistake on her identification of~d she told me that she did
not believe she made a misidentification. Ashley was laid that during the course of this investigation. t h a t " ' h a d
been contacted by the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office and interviewed at great length, 1explained to Ashley that we had
learned through our investigation tbat~ad left Columbine High School prior to the shooting incident and was off
campus when this incident occurred.

At tms point, 1showed Ashley a time line that was prepared in reference to - ' a c t i v i t i e s On 04-20-99. I went over
the time line with Ashley and had her read through the time line. After Ashley finished, she handed the time line back to me
and said with the information you're providing me, it looks like I made a mistake. but she told me in her mind. she believed
that - " . s still the individual that she saw in Columbine High School with Eric Harris.

I provided Ashley with some still photographs numbers 44, 47, 52 and 53, those photos were recovered from the time lapse
cameras that were in the cafeteria at the high school. The photographs depict Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. at which time
I asked Ashley if these were the two individuals that she saw in Columbine High School on 04-20-99. Ashley immediately
confirmed that she saw Eric Harris, but told me that she did not see Dylan Klebold, tellillg me that again she believed the
second gunman was _ [ went over information w' had obtained through additional witnesses that were in the same
area where Ashley was at, telling her that several other witnesses positively identified Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, as being
the two armed gunmen, At this time, [again asked Ashley if she made a mistake in her identification o~ Again,
Ashley told me that it is possible. but still believed that _ w a s the other gunman she saw at school that day, In
reference to Investigator Pfannenstiel's report, Ashley stated that she was with a student known to her by the first name of
Lacey, r asked Ashley if she could provide any additional information On helping us identify Lacey. telling her that we have
been unable to identify this person through interviews that we conducted. Ashley told me the! she believes that the student's
name was Lacey. telling me that she thinks Lacey moved, because she has not seen her so far this school year.

On May 11, 1999 this investigator conducted a telephone

interview with Anja Heidrich, who is a sophomore at Columbine High
School. Ms. Heidrich made the following statements.

MS. Heidrich stated sbe was in gym class when the shooting
started. The gym class was getting ready for their walk in Clement
Park when Mr. DeAngeles came rtmIling toward us to tell us to get
back in the gym. Mr. DeAngeles locked us in the gym.

MS. Hedrich stated she heard gunshots but never saw the gunmen.

Ms. Hedrich stated she is moving back to Germany in three

weeks. Her German Visa is in her gym locker along with other
personal items and she would like her stuff back. She has to have
her visa to get back to Germany. I told her I would pass this
information on to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

made the following statements.

Ms. Heijel stated she was in gym class on April 20, 1999. They
were getting ready to go outside and walk in Clement Park. Mr.

back in the gym and get down on the floor.

Ms. Heij el stated she heard gunshots. However, she never saw

Ms. Heijel stated she is an exchange student from Sweden. she

Rebecca Heins, DOS 03/10/1981, 7100 West Walker Avenue,

Littleton, Colorado, telephone (303)933-2554, a senior at
Columbine High School, was interviewed at her residence by
Special Agent (SA) Ricky V. Wright and SA Russell J. Atanasio
regarding the incident that took place on 04/20/1999 at Columbine
High School. After being advised as to the identity of the
interviewing agent and the nature of the interview, Heins
provided the following information:
At the time of the shooting, Heins was in the gymnasium
attending her 5th period girls physical education class taught by
Kris Macauley. Heins first learned of the shooting when the
Principal, Mr. DeAngelis, came into the gymnasium area and told
Heins and nine other girls to hide in a storage area off of the
gymnasium, while he went to investigate shots that had been
fired. Among the girls with Heins, were Megan Kelley and Mandy
Glodsby. Heins is not sure where the rest of her class went.
When DeAngelis came back, he was with two other teachers and
Heins overheard them saying the gunmen were wearing trenchcoats.
Heins thought then that the shooters could be Eric Harris and
Dylan Klebold because they often wore trenchcoats and were not at
school that day. Shortly after DeAngelis and the other teachers
came back, they all went out the doors of the gymnasium and went
to Clement Park.
Heins was in the cafeteria area first period, She was
talking with two other students, but does not know their names.
Heins was sitting at one of the tables against the wall just
inside the student entrance. Heins did not see ~~y large duffle
bags in the commons area while she was there. Heins estimated
there to be 100 students in the commons area during first period.
Eric Harris was 'in Heins' third period philosophy class
and fourth period creative writing class. Dylan Klebcld was also
in Heins' fourth period creative writing class. Klebold and
Harris were not in either of those classes the day of the
shooting. Heins normally sat next to Harris in philosophy class
and recalled that Brooks Brown, who is also in philosophy and
creative writing, moved into Eric Harris' seat on the day of the
shooting. Heins asked Brown where Harris was and Brown

speculated that Harris and Klebold had gone downtown for some
reason.
Heins would occasionally Skip class with Harris,
Klebold, and Brown and even went to Harris' house on one occasion
in March 1999 and ate lunch. Harris and Klebold never spoke
about guns or bombs or doing anything violent. When together,
Klebold and Harris would usually just talk about school or their
work at Blackjack pizza. Occasionally, Harris and Klebold would
jokingly ask each other, 'can I shoot that guy?', in response to
someone annoying them. Harris and IUebold did not hate any jocks
specifically, but did feel that many teachers at the school
favored jocks. Harris and Klebold never gave any indication to
Heins that they were going to attacK the school. Heins was very
surprised to learn they had done it.
Heins knew - -was a friend of Harris an~
eb but he was r~ them when she was there. _
_ was also in her creative writing class, but mostly seemed
ang around with Klebold. Heins had seen Robyn Anderson
talking to Harris and Klebold on occasion. Heins does not know

trenchcoats from time to time. They were the o~nes that she
knew who wore trenchcoats. Heins never really heard the term
Trenchcoat Mafia before the media started making a big thing out
of it. Heins did not have a school yearbook from the prior year
and was not aware of the picture in the yearbook featuring
members of the Trenchcoat Mafia.
On the day of the shooting, Heins was wearing gray
shorts, a blue shirt, and tennis shoes for gym class. Heins was
also wearing a black scarf around her neck. The black scarf was
part of Heins' regular outfit that she was wearing that day, but
she did not take it off for gym class. Heins left the scarf on,
because she wanted to save herself the effort of having to put it
back on after gym class. Heins said she and most of the other
girls do not shower after gym class. Heins denied that anyone in
gym class had asked her to remove the scarf.

On 6-14-99 I contactedHoldenwho told me that on 4-20·99 he was in his Weightsclasswhenheheardthe fire alarm.
As he was leaving the building with the rest of his class he beard a "large boom" and then other "shot-type noises"
which seemed to be coming :li:om the h1lrary Or commons area. He proceededto the smokers pit where he was told
to hop the fence and run to Clements park by a female teacher. Holdendid not see or hear anything else.

Holden further told me that he did not know eitherHarris or K1ebold.

On 6-8·991 contacted HooverwhoIOId methat on 4-20·99 during the incident he was in his Weights classwhen they

heard the fire alarm and exited the building as per the established procedure. Hoover said he did not hear or see
anything ofthe incident at that time.

Hooverfurther roldme that he did not know Harris at all but did know Klebold and had known him tor a lew years
as a "ftunily friend" and a fellow member of a baseballteam. He did not sociali:ze with Klebold excepton the baseball
'am and when the two families would go 10 the Rockies games (both families had season tickets and sat verynear
to eachother). Hooverdescribed Klebold as veryshyand whentheydid talk, it was usuallyaboutbaseball, otherwise
it was just to say 'iii" to each other in the ballway at school. Hoover has seen KleboJd change over the last year
mostly over the summer when he went to the "long hair and everything else". Hoover knew nothing of Klebold's
activities or plans.

On 7-9-99, at about 1145 hours, I contacted witness John HusbandJr., by telephone who is a student at Columbine H.S. This
was in reference to the shooting that OCCUlTed at Columbine H.S. on 4-20-99.

John Husband Jr. told me that on 4-20-99, he arrived at Columbine H.S. at approximately0120 hours for his scheduledclasses.
John said his first class was a languageclass. He alsosaid his second class was AmericanHistory, his third class was math, and
his fourth class was science. John said all these classes are on the upper levelofColumbine H.S. John said his fiM hour class
is a gym/weights class, and is on the upper level of Columbine H. S. also. John said he began this class on 4-20-99, at
approximately 1110 hours, and said the class had just beganwhen he heard the fire alarm for Columbine H.S. go off. John said
he thought the alarm was a fire drill and apparentlythe otherweightsclass studentsdid also because they all began walkingout
of the weights room. He said the door that the classexited was a door fromthe interiorof the weights class to the exteriorof the
school. John said this door exits the school OIl the north side, overlooking the tennis courts, between Columbine H.S. and
Clement Park. John said as he was exiting Columbine H.5. he heard three explosions. He said it sounded like to him were

did Dylan Kleboldtalk to him. John said that DylanKleboldroutinely stayedto himselfin his class. John said Dylan Klebold
wouldwear an ankle length black trenchcoat thatJohn believed to bemadeout of a material other than leather, possiblycanvas
type material. John said Dylan Klebold would not wear the jacket all the time, however,Dylan would wear different colors of
Tsshirtsthat had Germanwords on them. He said DylanKleboldalso worejeans underthe trench coat and wore black military
~'Pe boots. John said he believed the TrenchCoat Mafia had more students in their group during the 1997-1998 school year,
than duringthe 1998-1999 school year.

John Husband Jr.. told me has not seen the"jocks" harassor pick on the Trench Coat Mafia students. He said he has not seen
the TrenchCoat Mafia students harassor pick on the "jocks" or any other students. John said he is a Columbine H.S. student
who is involved in golf, tennis and track, and said the TrenchCoat Mafia studentshave not harassed him up to this point.

John HusbandJr., said prior to, or during the incident at Columbine H.S. on 4-20-99, he did not see anybody carrying a duffel
!>ag or propane tank such as the one thet was laterrecovered in the Columbine H.S.cafeteria. He said he was not in the cafeteria
at all on 4-20-99. John said he has not heard anything about any other suspectsthat may have been involved, prior to, during,
or following the shootingat Columbine H.S. Johnsaidhe doesnot know anybody, nor has he heard any rumors about anybody
that may be manufacturing explosive devices and/orpossessing or selling firearms.

go off: He began walking outsidethen started running whenhe heard "a big bang". As he was running he heard kids
saying that someone was firing guns in the school, Jacksonkept running toward the parkand heard or saw nothing
else regarding the incident.

Jackson further to ld me that be did not know either Harris or Klebold.

Narrative:
On 6·23-99 I spoke with Johnson whotold me that on 4-20·99 he was in his Weights class when he heard
the fire alarm go off. He and a few othars kept lifting un!!! theyheard screaming coming from the area of
the main office. He then walked outside andas he gotto the temporary buildings he heard 4-5- explosions
that seamed to be coming from the Commons area. Hethen ran to Clements park. Johnson did not see or
hearanything else.

Johnson further told me that he did not know either Harris or Klebold.

LO\VRY confirmedthat he probably was the coach that the contractoron the roof had
seen running from the schoolat the time of the shooting.

LO\VRY recalledthe morning of April20th began with a couple of outdoor classes on

tbe ballfields. He did not recall having seen anything unusual while tbey wereoutside.
This was possiblydue to his vantage pointfrom the fields has a limited range of view to
most of the parking lots and entrances to the school. He also said he had not seen
anythingin the cafeteria area or the libraryas be had not gone into those areas yet that
day.

At about 11 :25pm LO\VRY recalled firstbecoming aware of the incident when the
fire alarm sounded at what he thought had been at 11 :25am. He said he had been on a
planning periodin his office area, whichis locatedbetween the sports locker rooms.
When the alarmssoundedhe went into the hallway and saw the fire doors closing, so he
exited out the northwest doors by the faculty parking next to the gymnasium. He said he
turned left by the fenced building equipment area to walle down to the student's senior
parkinglot. LO\VRY addedhe had not heard any gunshots or explosions until after he
exited the school.

At this point DeputyGardner and "Andy" the Campus Supervisor yelled at him to
"get down," and "get out of there!" LOWRY said Gardnerand "Andy" was behind a car
in the senior's parkinglot, and out of his peripheral vision saw someoneducking down
on the roof, above the library area wearing what he recalledas a red shirt. "Andy" then
yelled that there was gunfire, and thinking that tbe personhe had seen ducking down on
the roof was a shooterhe ran the oppositedirection, westward. LOWRY when he got to
the other side of the athletic equipmentstorage shed he found a student, unknown to him
at the time, bleeding heavily from the leg and less significantly from the cheek and
mouth. LO\VRY said he later learnedthis to be student, Mike Johnson. LO\VRY said he
yelled to Deputy Gardnerand "Andy" for an ambulance, then told the student that there
was not anything he could do for him but he would go to retrieve help.

LOWRY said be then hopped the chainlink fence of the baseball field and was metby
two police officers that told him to "freeze." He said he told the officers about the
student (JOHNSON) needing an ambulance.

LOWRY said be laid on Iris stomach on the ballfield for what he believed to be about
twenty minutes. During this time period he heardalmostnon-stoprapid gunfire and
intermittent explosions come from within the school. Due to the volume of shots and
explosionshe felt nobody would be left alive in the school,

LOWRY ultimatelysought refuge in Clement Park. While there be watched as

injured student Val SCHNURR was broughtto the area on a gulf cart and subsequently
transported for medical treatment. Also whilein the park and subsequently to this,
LOWRY overheard accounts from several students and teachers about their having
witnessedwhat had occurredinside the school. Theseincluded Teachers Rich LONG
whom was said to have been in the library at the time of the shooting; Theresa MILLER,
a science teacher; Peggy DODD whom was in the magazine room and LibraryAide
"Carol" (WELD). LOWRY provided students that were possiblewitnesses as Janine
ROBERTS and Patrice DOYLEwhom was said to havepassed Eric and Dylanon the
stairs by the cafeteria then immediately afterward heard shooting; Dennis ROW whom
was said to have been eating outside at the time, and an unidentified red haired boy.

On April 29, 1999 I investigated Control # 2087 which provided lead to interview
Columbine High School Teacher, Kristine MaCauley in an effort to ascertain whether
Eric Harris was at the earlymomiagbowling class on 042099.

This related leadwas completed, as well as identifying the 71 students registered for
the class. Also obtained was a score sheet for that day. A review of this score sheet
discovered a total of 13 students had their averages entered in placeof new scores,
indicating their absence on April 20, 1999.

The bowlingteams werecomprised of four persons which were self-picked by the

students. Eric HARRIS and Dylan KLEBOLD were on the same team, alongwith
Christopher MORRIS and Nate DYKEMAN.

Thescore sheet, as well as the teacher, indicated HARRIS, KLEBOLD and MORRIS
wereabsent on April 20, 1999. Nathan DYKEMAN was theonlyperson on the team to
havebowled that day.

Thecomplete list ofstudents registered as students in Kristine MaCauley's bowling

class, from control#2087, is included with this report.
