Shelton College International Christmas party By Merla Quiñones

It was indeed a very

memorable christmas party for
SCI. There were broad smiles
all round and keen anticipation
for next year’s party.

Last December 12, Shelton College International celebrated its christmas party with the theme “Christmas in our Hearts”. The special event was
attended by the students and staff of SCI and was held at SCI's hall. The 3-hour event was filled with fun and laughter as people gamely participated in
the performances and games.

The event started off with a performance by the academics department. They sang christmas carols Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bells,
Christmas in our Hearts and 12 days of Christmas. This was followed by a presentation of the images of Christmas by SCI students. Performances from the
beautiful ladies of the Business Department and an acoustic renditions of O Holy Night, Silent Night and Feliz Navidad by Facilities, Canteen, IT and
Processing departments followed.

SCI's depiction of the Nativity was one of the highlights of the event. Lead by Ms. Maria, the TTH Diploma class portrayed the Birth of Jesus in
Bethlehem.

Students and staff enjoyed the parlor games - Sack Race, Bring Me , Lemon Relay, The Longest Line and the Christmas Tree making contest. Teamwork
was very evident during the event as students and staff played and had fun together. The party continued with the exchange gifts, high tea and the
lighting of SCI's christmas tree by Mr Gerad Loo, SCI's principal.

It was indeed a very memorable christmas party for SCI.

We focus on challenges that our foreign students might face. The first week is our orientation programme --- A
series of fun filled events to help our new students make friends with one another and get to know the teachers
better. The games would also help the students bond better, and challenge their abilities.

Yet Orientation is not just all about having fun. Our students are also briefed on disciplinary rules and academic
requirement. A series of seminars on effective time management and study skills are also held for our students,.

All in all, the Orientation Program ensures our newest students settle in nicely while having a great deal of fun.
At the same time, it aims to prepare them for an interesting academic year ahead by ensuring they are off to a
good start.

The first Admission Examination for International Students (AEIS) was held in 2008 at Singapore Expo, and our International
students who sat for this examination succeeded with fantastic results.

The test aims to asses the applicant’s English literacy, numeracy and reasoning ability to gain entry to the mainstream (Government’s schools).

99% students enrolled at SCI passed the recent examination. The results showed that at SCI, students preparing for the mainstream education were
taken care by the highly qualified and dedicated teaching staff.

Congratulations to all our students who have passed the examination.

Tina’s Experience

My name is Nang Tin Tin Tun (Tina). I am from Mandalay, Myanmar. I am twenty years old. I studied Chemistry at the University of
Mandalay before I came to Singapore. I have been in Singapore for approximately two years and during my time here, I studied Travel &
Hotel Management and a Business Management Diploma course at Shelton College International.

I did my job attachment at Lotus vegetarian restaurant. This restaurant is located at Quality Hotel. They provide good service and try to
fulfil customer needs for their special vegetarian food. I got plenty of experience during the six months I was there. I learnt how to work
together with colleagues and how to communicate with different customers. I also learnt how to complete a job successfully and how to
handle relationships with different people. I will treasure this experience deeply. My supervisor taught me how to give my best in the
F&B industry. She is an excellent communicator and service person. I like her very much and I have gained a lot from her. I enjoyed the
working environment tremendously thanks to the staff who are kind and friendly. I will never forget all my happy experiences.

Shelton provides a good preparation for the interview for the internship.

I will be returning to Myanmar for a short one and a half month holiday. When I return, I will continue to study for my degree in
Singapore. Shelton is a good school as they always take care of their students. I like Shelton. I suggest that students should go for the
internship because the experience is very important and valuable; it is something which money can’t buy. It shapes working attitude and
how you view everything.

All the best Shelton and Thank You!
