Isaiah 61:1-3
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

January to May
Since November, 2012 we have served 87 days with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief working in NJ/NY helping people put back their lives from the aftermath of hurricane Sandy. During the Christmas and Spring breaks we had a total of 56 teams representing 30 states and two Canadian Provinces participate in the recovery/rebuild effort on Staten Island. A total of 816 volunteers worked in 206 homes. We have been so blessed to be a part of this relief effort and honored that God allowed us to join Him in what He is doing. Pastor Ray from Crossroads Church on Staten Island said, the wind of God is blowing across the Island. This wind is the Holy Spirit who continues to change lives and hearts as the result of hurricane Sandy. As one young lady put it, I never thought anything good could come out of a hurricane, but I see change taking place and I want to We are a reflection of that light, however the light of course is Jesus and He has always been there, it just takes a hurricane to sometimes get our attention. Randy has traveled back and forth, continuing to provide evangelism training as well as teaching (OSFA) which stands for Operational Stress First Aid. The last NC Baptist Men Disaster Relief training this year will be in College students being the Hendersonville, NC on hands and feet of Jesus June 7-8. If you or someknow more about the God one you know is interyou serve. A man said you ested in getting trained in have brought light to Disaster Relief, go to the Staten Island and I am www.baptistsonmission praying that the people .org/training/training here will catch that light. for more information.

Our New Adventure...

On April 12th we met with Mickey Caison, Recovery Coordinator for Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. He presented us with an opportunity to serve in the Sandy Rebuild Project in New York. This commitment is for 2 years. Ronda would serve as the Office Manager on Staten Island and Randy would serve as Spiritual Care with staff, volunteers and pastors. After a few days of prayerful consideration and discussions with family and friends, we felt at peace when we called to confirm acceptance of the positions. We are reminded of the verse in Luke 10:2 where Jesus said The harvest is plentiful yet the workers are few, pray the Lord of the harvest to send out workers to His harvest. We ask that you pray for us as we embark on this endeavor. Randy will travel from Staten Island as he continues with training commitments. We feel honored to serve with the Sandy Rebuild Team in the North East providing help, hope and healing.

He is the God of this City

As Ronda and I were attending a prayer meeting and Lords Supper at our home church, Biltmore Baptist, Gods Spirit spoke to us concerning the Sandy rebuild program in New York and what lies ahead. The song God of the City by Chris Tomlin is our heart song for the city of Long Island and Staten Island as we begin the two year rebuild.

Here are some of the words of this song that tell the story.

You're the God of this City. You're the King of these people. You're the Lord of this nation. You're the Light in this darkness. You're the Hope to the hopeless. You're the Peace to the restless. There is no one like our God. There is no one like our God. For greater things have yet to come. And greater things are still to be done in this City.
Amen

Our Comings and Goings

We were invited to speak at Carrs Hill Baptist Church in Brevard, NC for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. It was a wonderful time of sharing and fellowship with friends. We are always thankful for the opportunity to share what God is doing. We were invited to speak at Dunns Rock Baptist Church on April 28th. We gave a presentation on the relief efforts in NY. This small congregation made us feel at home and we cherish these moments. Randy provided evangelism training for North Carolina Baptist Men Disaster Relief at events in Murfreesboro, Southport, Summerfield, and Boone NC. The attendance averaged around 400 volunteers at each event. Ronda and I took a much needed break and went to the beach for a week in May. It was hard to rest and relax with ministry awaiting, but we forced ourselves to enjoy this time. We invited our dear friend Donna Guillot to join us the last couple of days. Its always a joy to spend time with Donna who we met in Prairieville, LA while responding to Hurricane Gustav. And who said good things cant come from a hurricane?

We will have all eternity to celebrate our victories, but we have only one swift hour before sunset in which to win them.
