January to May
Since November, 2012 we have served 87 days with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief working in NJ/NY helping people put back their lives from the aftermath of hurricane Sandy. During the Christmas and Spring breaks we had a total of 56 teams representing 30 states and two Canadian Provinces participate in the recovery/rebuild effort on Staten Island. A total of 816 volunteers worked in 206 homes. We have been so blessed to be a part of this relief effort and honored that God allowed us to join Him in what He is doing. Pastor Ray from Crossroads Church on Staten Island said, the wind of God is blowing across the Island. This wind is the Holy Spirit who continues to change lives and hearts as the result of hurricane Sandy. As one young lady put it, I never thought anything good could come out of a hurricane, but I see change taking place and I want to We are a reflection of that light, however the light of course is Jesus and He has always been there, it just takes a hurricane to sometimes get our attention. Randy has traveled back and forth, continuing to provide evangelism training as well as teaching (OSFA) which stands for Operational Stress First Aid. The last NC Baptist Men Disaster Relief training this year will be in College students being the Hendersonville, NC on hands and feet of Jesus June 7-8. If you or someknow more about the God one you know is interyou serve. A man said you ested in getting trained in have brought light to Disaster Relief, go to the Staten Island and I am www.baptistsonmission praying that the people .org/training/training here will catch that light. for more information.
As Ronda and I were attending a prayer meeting and Lords Supper at our home church, Biltmore Baptist, Gods Spirit spoke to us concerning the Sandy rebuild program in New York and what lies ahead. The song God of the City by Chris Tomlin is our heart song for the city of Long Island and Staten Island as we begin the two year rebuild.
Here are some of the words of this song that tell the story.
You're the God of this City. You're the King of these people. You're the Lord of this nation. You're the Light in this darkness. You're the Hope to the hopeless. You're the Peace to the restless. There is no one like our God. There is no one like our God. For greater things have yet to come. And greater things are still to be done in this City.
Amen
We will have all eternity to celebrate our victories, but we have only one swift hour before sunset in which to win them.
