Fish and Storm Clouds Lin Onus was born on December 4th 1948 and he died on 23rd of October

1996. Onus was born in Melbourne, Australia and this work of art was painted in 1994, and he used synthetic polymer paint. The size of this painting is 183 x 183cm. The first thing that caught my eye was the fish even though the camouflage in with the subjects in this painting, the colours look very mysterious and gloomy and the compliment one another. There is something about this painting that I cant really but a finger on, however it draws me in. I am left wondering more and more about this painting. What was Onus thinking about as he was painting this strange artwork? This painting reminds of a gloomy rainy day, the colour of the skies when I am expecting a thunderstorm coming my way. It gives me a sense of comfort because it reminds me of being locked up in my house cozing up to a warm cup of tea and watching a black and white movie. The details of this piece are very detailed and it is somewhat like a Chinese or Japanese style of art. I can see a dark gloomy sky, though it also looks like a reflection of water thus the fish. The clouds may also be interpreted as fog and there are different styles of branches around the painting. The colours are dark and murky; it is very subtle but there darker shadings within the painting. There are different techniques used in this painting as the clouds are a circular and seems as though they artist dripped water splatters to make it look like rain. The first thing in which caught my attention was the fish. This painting has different elements present, the fish, clouds/ fogs/ tree branches, and the sky. This painting reflects the artists background and he is from the Scottish aboriginal Wiradiuri culture. This piece Fish and Storm Clouds was created in 1994 and Onus had established the painting based on the Barmah Forest and the Murray River, this was where Onuss father was from. The artists real name was actually in fact William Mc Lintock Onus, he had self-taught himself how to paint, print and sculpt. Onus is well known for creating painting and artworks that incorporates the culture of The Europeans and Aboriginals ways using different modern techniques. Onus had used synthetic polymer paint of a large canvas to create this painting. There are no obvious strokes of brushed to show any evidence of his hand movements. Some techniques that he may have used was blending, painting, shading and washing, he may have photographed some parts of the painting. He most likely took a very long time to paint the strokes to make it seem as though the painting was flawless. After research on Onuss work we can accurately presume that he had gotten the idea from Australians Outback, from the aboriginal ethnicity. In my opinion this painting reminds me of a daydream of a winter day.

I think that this painting though at first glance, may not look like an interesting piece as I interpret it and delve deeper I can see the beauty and effort that Onus had put into the master piece I truly am fond of this painting. Untiled #1279 This painting was created in 2009 made by Louise Hearman whom was born in 1963 and still living today. Hearmans hometown is in Melbourne, Australia. As I looked at this painting the first thing that attracted me to this was the boys roguish yet evil face. There is something about this painting that gives me a certain uncomfortable feeling. This child can be seen in a pile of snow or clouds I see clouds. His hair shows perhaps an angelic look however the face reminds me of the devil. The sky in this piece is a dark murky blue perhaps that is why it makes the mood of this painting to be dark and lifeless. The clouds are fluffy as though the boy is in heaven. The shade of the boys face is and off white, making him look dirty. There is nothing really to this piece only the sky, clouds and the boy. The strokes and evenly distributed both going in vertical and horizontal ways, The clouds look fluffy and light, whereas the sky look as though this is more shading. There are two tones presented in this painting both dark and pale contrast each other. The skies were darker and murky, whereas the clouds were highlighted. This painting was made in 2009 painted by Hearman in Melbourne (Her hometown) It was smaller that the precious painting above as it was only 61 x 83cm. The artists hand movements and her brush strokes were barely visible. However it is present on the clouds. Techniques that she used were painting, blending, shading, smearing and melting. This painting was taken around 2-4 months to finish. There is something about this painting that makes me feel as though something is not right perhaps it is the boy or the colours. It causes me discomfort and the wicked look that the boy has makes me scared to find out what h has did wrong to be there. It doesnt really draw my attention to it. In my honest opinion I dont like this painting it gives me a very weird vibe. Perhaps others may find this certain painting interesting but I personal do not like the style of this particular painting by Louise Hearman.
