New-Generation PV Power Plant Control Offered by Skytron Energy GmbH, Germany, Independent of Inverter Type
With its rapid advancement onto the utility-scale level over the last few years, the photovoltaic solar industry has undergone a quantum leap. Penetration into the utility grid, on an equal footing with conventional power plants, however, requires full controllability of the solar power generated, converted and fed into the electricity network. National grid stability regulations require PV power plants to participate in grid security management and peak load shifting and shaving, and to control critical stability factors such as the phase shift (cos ), and the active and reactive power content. Plant monitoring from the PV generator field over combiner box and substation switchgear right to the grid connection point- is today considered as a matter of course. The hitherto missing link - high-precision closed-loop control of all critical power generation quantities- is now offered by the German company Skytron Energy GmbH. Their system Skycontrol provides the features required for maximized yields and controlled energy flows: Control of power output in 4 steps (e.g., 100 %, 60 %, 30 %, 0 %), or virtually continuous control (i.e. analog control) Phase angle (cos ) control at grid connection point Real-time prediction of currently possible feed-in power Active power control, with quick response to requested power clipping (0 to 100 %) Active power control, frequency-based (as required by German grid integration regulations) Reactive power control, frequency-based, voltagebased Integration of protection switching signals (e.g., overvoltage/under voltage tripping, over frequency/under frequency tripping, fast Emergency OFF, response to enable signals) Plant supervision and visualization with alarm notification, incl. information about time response of control and grid security functions Compatible with inverters of different manufacturers Compatible with upstream SCADA systems of different public utility companies Modular and scalable in size and functionality according to customer requirements In the year 2009 alone, several power plants in the MW range with a total generating capacity of over 200 MWp have been equipped with sensor and monitoring systems from Skytron energy. More than half of this installed MW capacity is controlled by Skycontrol the next-generation PV power plant control system. Focusing on fully integrated solutions, encompassing all necessary instrumentation, control and visualisation functions, the company Skytron energy also offers complete data hosting and control room services for remote plant supervision and maintenance, alarm response and analysis, reporting and billing.

Charge Air Coolers

For many decades GEA has developed and produced charge air coolers for the marine and onshore/offshore fields as well as stationary diesel and gas engines for engine outputs of more than 200 kW. Whether core radiators, extractable housing coolers, slide-in coolers or other special designs-all products are custom made for all individual engine designs, particular installation criteria and varied operational conditions. Due to the use of special material and modern coating technology, the use of GEA Charge Air Coolers in special gas-/biogas engines is also

possible. The successful development of stainless steel finned tube system has helped in increasing the corrosion resistance significantly and use of aggressive cleaning systems possible. For more details please contact at jayakumar. nair@geagroup.com

1 Kg Ultrasonic Flaw Detector for Harsh Environments

Weighing only 1 kg, the USM Go is the lightest and most portable ultrasonic flaw detector. The USM Go is designed for ease of prolonged operation in the harshest inspection environments in the oil and gas, aerospace, power generation and automotive industries. It is the first instrument of its kind with pressure-responsive, joystick control and offers data display resolution on a screen

with the largest pixel count of any instrument in its category. The USM Go is dust- and water-proof to IP67 certification standards and proven to withstand shock and vibration. With its unique flip facility, it can be operated by both left-handed and right-handed personnel using the navigation joystick and the familiar function keys. The instruments 800x480 pixel display affords

extremely high resolution while the optimized aspect ratio ensures better echo separation. The display screen can be easily viewed in hand-held or deskmounted position and has been sized for optimal ergonomic use. Inspection data can be downloaded easily through the USM Gos USB connectivity and the 2GB memory card, which can be easily expanded by the addition of a 2GB stand-

ard SD card. Reports are in jpeg or BMP format eliminating the need for special reading software. The USM Go is available in customized models to meet specific inspection codes or applications. This includes an optional square wave pulser for applications involving the inspection of highly attenuate materials, such as castings and forgings.
