ItisIsrael'sclaimsthatitrepresentsandspeaksforallJewsthatarethemostantiSemiticclaimsof all. JewishopponentsofZionismunderstoodthemovementsinceitsearlyageasonethatsharedthe preceptsofantiSemitisminitsdiagnosisofwhatgentileEuropeanscalledthe"JewishQuestion". WhatgalledantiZionistJewsthemost,however,wasthatZionismalsosharedthe"solution"tothe JewishQuestionthatantiSemiteshadalwaysadvocated,namelytheexpulsionofJewsfrom Europe. ItwastheProtestantReformationwithitsrevivaloftheHebrewBiblethatwouldlinkthemodernJews ofEuropetotheancientHebrewsofPalestine,alinkthatthephilologistsofthe18thcenturywould solidifythroughtheirdiscoveryofthefamilyof"Semitic"languages,includingHebrewandArabic. WhereasMillenarianProtestantsinsistedthatcontemporaryJews,asdescendantsoftheancient Hebrews,mustleaveEuropetoPalestinetoexpeditethesecondcomingofChrist,philological discoveriesledtothelabellingofcontemporaryJewsas"Semites".Theleapthatthebiological sciencesofraceandhereditywouldmakeinthe19thcenturyofconsideringcontemporaryEuropean JewsracialdescendantsoftheancientHebrewswould,asaresult,notbeagiantone. BasingthemselvesontheconnectionsmadebyantiJewishProtestantMillenarians,secular Europeanfiguressawthepoliticalpotentialof"restoring"JewstoPalestineaboundedinthe19th century.LessinterestedinexpeditingthesecondcomingofChristasweretheMillenarians,these

secularpoliticians,fromNapoleonBonapartetoBritishforeignsecretaryLordPalmerston(17851865) toErnestLaharanne,theprivatesecretaryofNapoleonIIIinthe1860s,soughttoexpeltheJewsof EuropetoPalestineinordertosetthemupasagentsofEuropeanimperialisminAsia.Theircallwould beespousedbymany"antiSemites",anewlabelchosenbyEuropeanantiJewishracistsafterits inventionin1879byaminorViennesejournalistbythenameofWilhelmMarr,whoissuedapolitical programmetitledTheVictoryofJudaismoverGermanism.MarrwascarefultodecoupleantiSemitism fromthehistoryofChristianhatredofJewsonthebasisofreligion,emphasising,inlinewithSemitic philologyandracialtheoriesofthe19thcentury,thatthedistinctiontobemadebetweenJewsand Aryanswasstrictlyracial. AssimilatingJewsintoEuropeanculture ScientificantiSemitisminsistedthattheJewsweredifferentfromChristianEuropeans.Indeedthatthe JewswerenotEuropeanatallandthattheirverypresenceinEuropeiswhatcausesantiSemitism. ThereasonwhyJewscausedsomanyproblemsforEuropeanChristianshadtodowiththeiralleged rootlessness,thattheylackedacountry,andhencecountrybasedloyalty.IntheRomanticageof Europeannationalisms,antiSemitesarguedthatJewsdidnotfitinthenewnationalconfigurations, anddisruptednationalandracialpurityessentialtomostEuropeannationalisms.Thisiswhyifthe JewsremainedinEurope,theantiSemitesargued,theycouldonlycausehostilityamongChristian Europeans.TheonlysolutionwasfortheJewstoexitfromEuropeandhavetheirowncountry. Needlesstosay,religiousandsecularJewsopposedthishorrificantiSemiticlineofthinking. OrthodoxandReformJews,SocialistandCommunistJews,cosmopolitanandYiddishkeitcultural Jews,allagreedthatthiswasadangerousideologyofhostilitythatsoughttheexpulsionofJewsfrom theirEuropeanhomelands. TheJewishHaskalah,orEnlightenment,whichemergedalsointhe19thcentury,soughttoassimilate JewsintoEuropeanseculargentilecultureandhavethemshedtheirJewishculture.Itwasthe HaskalahthatsoughttobreakthehegemonyofOrthodoxJewishrabbisonthe"Ostjuden"oftheEast Europeanshtetlandtoshedwhatitperceivedasa"medieval"Jewishcultureinfavourofthemodern secularcultureofEuropeanChristians.ReformJudaism,asaChristianandProtestantlikevariantof Judaism,wouldemergefromthebosomoftheHaskalah.Thisassimilationistprogramme,however, soughttointegrateJewsinEuropeanmodernity,nottoexpelthemoutsideEurope'sgeography. WhenZionismstartedadecadeandahalfafterMarr'santiSemiticprogrammewaspublished,itwould espousealltheseantiJewishideas,includingscientificantiSemitismasvalid.ForZionism,Jews were"Semites",whoweredescendantsoftheancientHebrews.InhisfoundationalpamphletDer Judenstaat,HerzlexplainedthatitwasJews,nottheirChristianenemies,who"cause"antiSemitism andthat"whereitdoesnotexist,[antiSemitism]iscarriedbyJewsinthecourseoftheirmigrations", indeedthat"theunfortunateJewsarenowcarryingtheseedsofantiSemitismintoEnglandtheyhave alreadyintroduceditintoAmerica"thatJewswerea"nation"thatshouldleaveEuropetorestoretheir "nationhood"inPalestineorArgentinathatJewsmustemulateEuropeanChristiansculturallyand abandontheirlivinglanguagesandtraditionsinfavourofmodernEuropeanlanguagesorarestored ancientnationallanguage.HerzlpreferredthatallJewsadoptGerman,whiletheEastEuropean ZionistswantedHebrew.ZionistsafterHerzlevenagreedandaffirmedthatJewswereseparate raciallyfromAryans.AsforYiddish,thelivinglanguageofmostEuropeanJews,allZionistsagreed thatitshouldbeabandoned. ThemajorityofJewscontinuedtoresistZionismandunderstooditspreceptsasthoseofanti SemitismandasacontinuationoftheHaskalahquesttoshedJewishcultureandassimilateJewsinto Europeanseculargentileculture,exceptthatZionismsoughtthelatternotinsideEuropebutata geographicalremovefollowingtheexpulsionofJewsfromEurope.TheBund,ortheGeneralJewish LaborUnioninLithuania,Poland,andRussia,whichwasfoundedinVilnainearlyOctober1897,afew weeksaftertheconveningofthefirstZionistCongressinBaselinlateAugust1897,wouldbecome Zionism'sfiercestenemy.TheBundjoinedtheexistingantiZionistJewishcoalitionofOrthodoxand ReformrabbiswhohadcombinedforcesafewmonthsearliertopreventHerzlfromconveningthefirst ZionistCongressinMunich,whichforcedhimtomoveittoBasel.JewishantiZionismacrossEurope andintheUnitedStateshadthesupportofthemajorityofJewswhocontinuedtoviewZionismasan antiJewishmovementwellintothe1940s.

AntiSemiticchainofproZionistenthusiasts RealisingthatitsplanforthefutureofEuropeanJewswasinlinewiththoseofantiSemites,Herzl strategisedearlyonanalliancewiththelatter.HedeclaredinDerJudenstaatthat: "TheGovernmentsofallcountriesscourgedbyantiSemitismwillbekeenlyinterestedinassistingus toobtain[the]sovereigntywewant." Headdedthat"notonlypoorJews"wouldcontributetoanimmigrationfundforEuropeanJews,"but alsoChristianswhowantedtogetridofthem".HerzlunapologeticallyconfidedinhisDiariesthat: "TheantiSemiteswillbecomeourmostdependablefriends,theantiSemiticcountriesourallies." ThuswhenHerzlbegantomeetin1903withinfamousantiSemitesliketheRussianministerofthe interiorVyacheslavvonPlehve,whooversawantiJewishpogromsinRussia,itwasanalliancethat hesoughtbydesign.ThatitwouldbetheantiSemiticLordBalfour,whoasPrimeMinisterofBritainin 1905oversawhisgovernment'sAliensAct,whichpreventedEastEuropeanJewsfleeingRussian pogromsfromenteringBritaininorder,asheputit,tosavethecountryfromthe"undoubtedevils"of "animmigrationwhichwaslargelyJewish",washardycoincidental.Balfour'sinfamousDeclaration of1917tocreateinPalestinea"nationalhome"forthe"Jewishpeople",wasdesigned,amongother things,tocurbJewishsupportfortheRussianRevolutionandtostemthetideoffurtherunwanted JewishimmigrantsintoBritain. TheNaziswouldnotbeanexceptioninthisantiSemiticchainofproZionistenthusiasts.Indeed,the ZionistswouldstrikeadealwiththeNazisveryearlyintheirhistory.Itwasin1933thattheinfamous Transfer(Ha'avara)AgreementwassignedbetweentheZionistsandtheNazigovernmenttofacilitate thetransferofGermanJewsandtheirpropertytoPalestineandwhichbroketheinternationalJewish boycottofNaziGermanystartedbyAmericanJews.ItwasinthisspiritthatNazienvoyswere dispatchedtoPalestinetoreportonthesuccessesofJewishcolonisationofthecountry.Adolf Eichmannreturnedfromhis1937triptoPalestinefulloffantasticstoriesabouttheachievementsofthe raciallyseparatistAshkenaziKibbutz,oneofwhichhevisitedonMountCarmelasaguestofthe Zionists. DespitetheoverwhelmingoppositionofmostGermanJews,itwastheZionistFederationofGermany thatwastheonlyJewishgroupthatsupportedtheNurembergLawsof1935,astheyagreedwiththe NazisthatJewsandAryanswereseparateandseparableraces.Thiswasnotatacticalsupportbut onebasedonideologicalsimilitude.TheNazis'FinalSolutioninitiallymeanttheexpulsionof Germany'sJewstoMadagascar.ItisthissharedgoalofexpellingJewsfromEuropeasaseparate unassimilableracethatcreatedtheaffinitybetweenNazisandZionistsallalong. WhilethemajorityofJewscontinuedtoresisttheantiSemiticbasisofZionismanditsallianceswith antiSemites,theNazigenocidenotonlykilled90percentofEuropeanJews,butintheprocessalso killedthemajorityofJewishenemiesofZionismwhodiedpreciselybecausetheyrefusedtoheedthe Zionistcallofabandoningtheircountriesandhomes. TheantiSemiteswillbecomeourmostdependablefriends,theantiSemiticcountriesourallies. TheodorHerzl,Diaries AftertheWar,thehorrorattheJewishholocaustdidnotstopEuropeancountriesfromsupportingthe antiSemiticprogrammeofZionism.Onthecontrary,thesecountriessharedwiththeNazisa predilectionforZionism.TheyonlyopposedNazism'sgenocidalprogramme.Europeancountries, alongwiththeUnitedStates,refusedtotakeinhundredsofthousandsofJewishsurvivorsofthe holocaust.Infact,thesecountriesvotedagainstaUNresolutionintroducedbytheArabstatesin1947 callingonthemtotakeintheJewishsurvivors,yetthesesamecountrieswouldbetheoneswho wouldsupporttheUnitedNationsPartitionPlanofNovember1947tocreateaJewishStatein PalestinetowhichtheseunwantedJewishrefugeescouldbeexpelled. TheUnitedStatesandEuropeancountries,includingGermany,wouldcontinuetheproZionistpolicies oftheNazis.PostWarWestGermangovernmentsthatpresentedthemselvesasopeninganewpage intheirrelationshipwithJewsinrealitydidnosuchthing.Sincetheestablishmentofthecountryafter WWII,everyWestGermangovernment(andeveryGermangovernmentsinceunificationin1990)has continuedtheproZionistNazipoliciesunabated.TherewasneverabreakwithNaziproZionism.The onlybreakwaswiththegenocidalandracialhatredofJewsthatNazismconsecrated,butnotwiththe desiretoseeJewssetupinacountryinAsia,awayfromEurope.Indeed,theGermanswouldexplain thatmuchofthemoneytheyweresendingtoIsraelwastohelpoffsetthecostsofresettlingEuropean Jewishrefugeesinthecountry. AfterWorldWarII,anewconsensusemergedintheUnitedStatesandEuropethatJewshadtobe integratedposthumouslyintowhiteEuropeanness,andthatthehorroroftheJewishholocaustwas essentiallyahorroratthemurderofwhiteEuropeans.Sincethe1960s,Hollywoodfilmsaboutthe holocaustbegantodepictJewishvictimsofNazismaswhiteChristianlooking,middleclass, educatedandtalentedpeoplenotunlikecontemporaryEuropeanandAmericanChristianswhoshould andwouldidentifywiththem.PresumablyifthefilmsweretodepictthepoorreligiousJewsofEastern Europe(andmostEastEuropeanJewswhowerekilledbytheNaziswerepoorandmanywere religious),contemporarywhiteChristianswouldnotfindcommonalitywiththem.Hence,thepost holocaustEuropeanChristianhorroratthegenocideofEuropeanJewswasnotbasedonthehorrorof slaughteringpeopleinthemillionswhoweredifferentfromEuropeanChristians,butratherahorrorat themurderofmillionsofpeoplewhowerethesameasEuropeanChristians.Thisexplainswhyina countryliketheUnitedStates,whichhadnothingtodowiththeslaughterofEuropeanJews,there existsupwardsof40holocaustmemorialsandamajormuseumforthemurderedJewsofEurope,but notonefortheholocaustofNativeAmericansorAfricanAmericansforwhichtheUSisresponsible. AimCsaireunderstoodthisprocessverywell.Inhisfamousspeechoncolonialism,heaffirmed thattheretrospectiveviewofEuropeanChristiansaboutNazismisthat itisbarbarism,butthesupremebarbarism,thecrowningbarbarismthatsumsupallthedaily barbarismsthatitisNazism,yes,butthatbefore[Europeans]wereitsvictims,theywereits accomplicesandtheytoleratedthatNazismbeforeitwasinflictedonthem,thattheyabsolvedit,shut theireyestoit,legitimisedit,because,untilthen,ithadbeenappliedonlytononEuropeanpeoples thattheyhavecultivatedthatNazism,thattheyareresponsibleforit,andthatbeforeengulfingthe wholeofWestern,Christiancivilisationinitsreddenedwaters,itoozes,seeps,andtricklesfromevery crack. ThatforCsairetheNaziwarsandholocaustwereEuropeancolonialismturnedinwardsistrue enough.ButsincetherehabilitationofNazism'svictimsaswhitepeople,EuropeanditsAmerican accomplicewouldcontinuetheirNazipolicyofvisitinghorrorsonnonwhitepeoplearoundtheworld, onKorea,onVietnamandIndochina,onAlgeria,onIndonesia,onCentralandSouthAmerica,on CentralandSouthernAfrica,onPalestine,onIran,andonIraqandAfghanistan. TherehabilitationofEuropeanJewsafterWWIIwasacrucialpartofUSColdWarpropaganda.As Americansocialscientistsandideologuesdevelopedthetheoryof"totalitarianism",whichposited SovietCommunismandNazismasessentiallythesametypeofregime,EuropeanJews,asvictimsof onetotalitarianregime,becamepartoftheatrocityexhibitionthatAmericanandWestEuropean propagandaclaimedwasliketheatrocitiesthattheSovietregimewasallegedlycommittinginthepre andpostWarperiods.ThatIsraelwouldjumponthebandwagonbyaccusingtheSovietsofanti SemitismfortheirrefusaltoallowSovietJewishcitizenstoselfexpelandleavetoIsraelwaspartof thepropaganda. Commitmenttowhitesupremacy ItwasthusthattheEuropeanandUScommitmenttowhitesupremacywaspreserved,exceptthatit nowincludedJewsaspartof"white"people,andwhatcametobecalled"JudeoChristian"civilisation. fromEurope,wereadirectcontinuationofantiSemiticpoliciesprevalentbeforetheWar.Itwasjust thatmuchoftheantiSemiticracialistvenomwouldnowbedirectedatArabsandMuslims(both,those whoareimmigrantsandcitizensinEuropeandtheUnitedStatesandthosewholiveinAsiaand Africa)whiletheerstwhileantiSemiticsupportforZionismwouldcontinueunhindered. WestGermany'salliancewithZionismandIsraelafterWWII,ofsupplyingIsraelwithhugeeconomic aidinthe1950sandofeconomicandmilitaryaidsincetheearly1960s,includingtanks,whichitused tokillPalestiniansandotherArabs,isacontinuationofthealliancethattheNazigovernment concludedwiththeZionistsinthe1930s.Inthe1960s,WestGermanyevenprovidedmilitarytraining toIsraelisoldiersandsincethe1970shasprovidedIsraelwithnuclearreadyGermanmade submarineswithwhichIsraelhopestokillmoreArabsandMuslims.Israelhasinrecentyearsarmed themostrecentGermansuppliedsubmarineswithnucleartippedcruisemissiles,afactthatiswell knowntothecurrentGermangovernment.Israel'sDefenceMinisterEhudBaraktoldDerSpiegelin 2012thatGermansshouldbe"proud"thattheyhavesecuredtheexistenceofthestateofIsrael"for manyyears".Berlinfinancedonethirdofthecostofthesubmarines,around135millioneuros($168 million)persubmarine,andhasallowedIsraeltodeferitspaymentuntil2015.Thatthismakes GermanyanaccompliceinthedispossessionofthePalestiniansisofnomoreconcerntocurrent Germangovernmentsthanitwasinthe1960stoWestGermanChancellorKonradAdenauerwho affirmedthat"theFederalRepublichasneithertherightnortheresponsibilitytotakeapositiononthe Palestinianrefugees". ThisistobeaddedtothemassivebillionsthatGermanyhaspaidtotheIsraeligovernmentas compensationfortheholocaust,asifIsraelandZionismwerethevictimsofNazism,wheninrealityit wasantiZionistJewswhowerekilledbytheNazis.ThecurrentGermangovernmentdoesnotcare aboutthefactthateventhoseGermanJewswhofledtheNazisandendedupinPalestinehated ZionismanditsprojectandwerehatedinturnbyZionistcolonistsinPalestine.AsGermanrefugeesin 1930sand1940sPalestinerefusedtolearnHebrewandpublishedhalfadozenGermannewspapers inthecountry,theywereattackedbytheHebrewpress,includingbyHaartez,whichcalledforthe closureoftheirnewspapersin1939andagainin1941.ZionistcolonistsattackedaGermanowned cafinTelAvivbecauseitsJewishownersrefusedtospeakHebrew,andtheTelAvivmunicipality threatenedinJune1944someofitsGermanJewishresidentsforholdingintheirhomeon21Allenby street"partiesandballsentirelyintheGermanlanguage,includingprogrammesthatareforeigntothe spiritofourcity"andthatthiswould"notbetoleratedinTelAviv".GermanJews,orYekkesasthey wereknownintheYishuv,wouldevenorganiseacelebrationoftheKaiser'sbirthdayin1941(for theseandmoredetailsaboutGermanJewishrefugeesinPalestine,readTomSegev'sbookThe SeventhMillion). AddtothatGermany'ssupportforIsraelipoliciesagainstPalestiniansattheUnitedNations,andthe picturebecomescomplete.EventhenewholocaustmemorialbuiltinBerlinthatopenedin2005 maintainsNaziracialapartheid,asthis"MemorialtotheMurderedJewsofEurope"isonlyforJewish victimsoftheNaziswhomuststilltodaybesetapart,asHitlermandated,fromtheothermillionsof nonJewswhoalsofellvictimtoNazism.ThatasubsidiaryoftheGermancompanyDegussa,which collaboratedwiththeNazisandwhichproducedtheZyklonBgasthatwasusedtokillpeopleinthe gaschambers,wascontractedtobuildthememorialwasanythingbutsurprising,asitsimplyconfirms thatthosewhokilledJewsinGermanyinthelate1930sandinthe1940snowregretwhattheyhad donebecausetheynowunderstandJewstobewhiteEuropeanswhomustbecommemoratedand whoshouldnothavebeenkilledinthefirstplaceonaccountoftheirwhiteness.TheGermanpolicyof abettingthekillingofArabsbyIsrael,however,ishardlyunrelatedtothiscommitmenttoantiSemitism, whichcontinuesthroughthepredominantcontemporaryantiMuslimGermanracismthattargets Muslimimmigrants. thatZionistcolonialismspringsfromitsveryantiSemitism.WhereasZionisminsiststhatJewsarea raceseparatefromEuropeanChristians,thePalestiniansinsistthatEuropeanJewsarenothingifnot EuropeanandhavenothingtodowithPalestine,itspeople,oritsculture.WhatIsraelanditsAmerican andEuropeanallieshavesoughttodointhelastsixandahalfdecadesistoconvincePalestinians thattheytoomustbecomeantiSemitesandbelieveastheNazis,Israel,anditsWesternantiSemitic alliesdo,thatJewsarearacethatisdifferentfromEuropeanraces,thatPalestineistheircountry,and thatIsraelspeaksforallJews.ThatthetwolargestAmericanproIsraelvotingblockstodayare MillenarianProtestantsandsecularimperialistscontinuestheverysameEuroAmericanantiJewish traditionthatextendsbacktotheProtestantReformationand19thcenturyimperialism.Butthe PalestinianshaveremainedunconvincedandsteadfastintheirresistancetoantiSemitism. EuropeanJewsweretransformedintotheinstrumentsofaggressiontheybecametheelementsof settlercolonialismintimatelyalliedtoracialdiscrimination YasserArafat,1974UNspeech IsraelanditsantiSemiticalliesaffirmthatIsraelis"theJewishpeople",thatitspoliciesare"Jewish" policies,thatitsachievementsare"Jewish"achievements,thatitscrimesare"Jewish"crimes,and thatthereforeanyonewhodarestocriticiseIsraeliscriticisingJewsandmustbeanantiSemite.The PalestinianpeoplehavemountedamajorstruggleagainstthisantiSemiticincitement.Theycontinue toaffirminsteadthattheIsraeligovernmentdoesnotspeakforallJews,thatitdoesnotrepresentall Jews,andthatitscolonialcrimesagainstthePalestinianpeopleareitsowncrimesandnotthecrimes of"theJewishpeople",andthatthereforeitmustbecriticised,condemnedandprosecutedforits ongoingwarcrimesagainstthePalestinianpeople.ThisisnotanewPalestinianposition,butonethat wasadoptedsincetheturnofthe20thcenturyandcontinuedthroughoutthepreWWIIPalestinian struggleagainstZionism.YasserArafat'sspeechattheUnitedNationsin1974stressedallthese pointsvehemently: Justascolonialismheedlesslyusedthewretched,thepoor,theexploitedasmereinertmatterwith whichtobuildandtocarryoutsettlercolonialism,sotooweredestitute,oppressedEuropeanJews employedonbehalfofworldimperialismandoftheZionistleadership.EuropeanJewswere transformedintotheinstrumentsofaggressiontheybecametheelementsofsettlercolonialism intimatelyalliedtoracialdiscriminationZionisttheologywasutilisedagainstourPalestinianpeople: thepurposewasnotonlytheestablishmentofWesternstylesettlercolonialismbutalsothesevering ofJewsfromtheirvarioushomelandsandsubsequentlytheirestrangementfromtheirnations.
