GENERAL COMMENTS: CODE 8686 is a nonionic polyvinyl acetate homopolymer providing excellent stiffening and firmness of hand to textile fabrics and also improves the tensile strengths of treated fabrics. The deposited film is thermoplastic, yet will resume its original firmness and feel on cooling. This product is compatible with most finishing formulations. This product shows excellent mechanical stability to high-speed shearing and deposits a clear, tough film resistant to light discoloration. CODE 8686 provides good adhesive qualities with excellent initial tack and may be used as a base for preparing adhesives. Plant runs indicate less padd roll or drum roll pick-up or build-up. APPLICATION: For textile stiffening, the amount applied will vary with the stiffening required. A range of 2.% to 8% will usually provide the desired hand and firmness. When applied in conjunction with water repellent finishes, we suggest that no more than 4.% be applied as excesses will tend to depress spray ratings. For adhesive work, the addition of a plasticizer is usually required.
