Middle Marsyangdi Hydroelectric Power Plant Marsyangdi River Valley, Nepal Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Kathmandu, Nepal Fichter Joint Venture (FJV) Kathmandu, Nepal Fichter Joint Venture (FJV) (Fichter GmbH & Co., Stuttgart, SWECO Grner AB, Oslo, CES - Consulting Engineers Salzgitter GmbH) Fichter Joint Venture (FJV) Kathmandu, Nepal Fichter Joint Venture (FJV) 6/2001 - 3/2007 ( 70 months ) The power plant will have an installed capacity of 72 MW which will be processed by two vertical Francis turbines at a gross head of approx 108 m. The mean annual production is planned to be approx. 400 GWh. DDC-JVs scope of work can be divided into headworks and underground works. The headworks comprise the construction of: - Concrete plug and a downstream cofferdam as part of the river diversion which will be required to excavate the construction pit for the spillway and the construction of the same afterwards. The river diversion is designed for a dry season flood of 415 m/s - Reinforced spillway structure with a stilling basin to be constructed mainly below ground. The spillway is designed for 4,270 m/s. Dimensions of the Spillway: Length: 95m, width 65 m, height: 63 m. - Rockfill dam adjacent to the left side of the spillway structure. Length: approx. 55 m. - Mass concrete gravity dam connected to the right side of the spillway. Length: approx 24 m. - Several wing walls up and down stream of the spillway - Intake structure with bedload excluder. - Power station with tailrace tunnel. Dimensions of the powerhouse: length: 85 m, width: 36 m, height: 36 m. - Service building - 3 km access roads

The underground works comprise the construction of: - A 375 m long horse shoe shaped diversion tunnel constructed according to the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NTAM). The cross sectional area of the lined tunnel is 55.5 m. - Three underground desander basins with vertical flushing facility. Dimensions of the desander basins: length: 130 m, width: 15 m, height: 26 m. - 5,144 m long headrace tunnel constructed partially in quarzite and phylite and according to NATM. The tunnel will be completely lined with reinforced concrete. DDC-JV will use a telescopic steel shuttering to construct the steel lining. - Concrete lined circular surge tank constructed into the rockmass. Dimensions of the surge tank: DN: 20 m, height 47 m. - A 415 m long penstock steel pipe covered in with concrete. The penstock will be partially constructed underground and in open cut.
