1: INTRODUCTION
It is proposed to start a poultry and pigs farming business in the Nadi peri-urban area. The produce will be retailed through our own outlet in the 2nd class shopping area of Nadi. Manure from the livestock ventures will be used to grow vegetables which will be marketed through our outlet, or, excess retailed to marketers in the Nadi area. Produce will be retailed to the community at below the going market price. It is proposed to hold open days once every month, running for a whole day, in which knowledge will be transferred to the local community, and invited guests. During his first stint in New Zealand, the proposer bought a farm at Kalende in the Christchurch area and he successfully produced maize and vegetables. His vegetables were retailed through the defunct CBC shop in Christchurch. He also kept chickens at home, in his spare garage, and made a profit of 65% on every batch.

2: POULTRY
It is proposed to rear 2,500 birds every week. The plan for the chicken run is shown below in Figure 2. Vitamins will be supplemented by chopped up discarded vegetables.

3: PIGS
Pigs will be reared in Kafu Block where a plot. This plot is conducive for pigs rearing as it backs up onto a dambo. Eight independently fenced off pig sties will be made with the doors opening so that the soil in the dambo will provide the essential iron required for rearing of pigs. The piggery has already been ear marked run down the slope to the dambo. Pigs will be slaughtered at 16 weeks. Feed will be purchased from commercial feed manufacturers and will be supplemented with household waste. Pork is the major source of meat for ethnic Fijians. The piggery plan is shown in figure 4.

5: VEGETABLES
No monetary value is attributed to the growing of vegetables. It is proposed to grow the following crops on the plot: Chinese cabbage Rape Cabbage

In addition, it will prove This will allow for suitable rotation to prevent nematodes build-up to the local population that a complete suite of wholesome vegetables can be grown on a small plot, thus boosting their nutritional intake at a marginal cost. Income from vegetables will be used for running the vehicles. Manure from the pigs and chicken rearing ventures will be mixed with fallen leaves and composted on site. The blood from the slaughtering of the livestock will be collected and added to the compost to enhance its potency.

6: EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
It is proposed to employ workers 10 on a full time basis and possibly another 20 on a seasonal, part time basis, depending on the needs such as tilling of the land, harvesting, weeding, slaughtering and plucking of chickens. Full time workers will entail the following: Accountant x1 1, salary of $1,500 per month, he will be shared with Filabu enterprises on $750 a 50:50 basis, so the cost to Nekila farms will be Security guards, one at each location 3, salary of $500 per month each. 7: RETURN ON INVESTMENT
ROI = 4,338x12/300,000 = 17.35% pa Amortisation is expected to be over 7 years, at 5% interest As the business expands, profit margins will increase. In addition, with time, efficiencies will be built into the business units. We will always endeavour to keep our prices below that of the free market; this will be our commitment to the community.

8: TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES and KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER


Facilities will be open for schools and college students to gather vital business and farming experiences on the various ventures. As mentioned in the introduction, it is proposed to hold one open day per month. This will be sponsored by Nekila farms using our facilities and organised by the District Agricultural Office. The aim being to transfer workable farming knowledge to the local population in order to enhance their standard of living. Topics expected to be covered include; animal husbandry, crop farming, irrigation, use storage and handling of pesticides, simple record keeping to monitor efficiency, time management, composting, marketing policy etc.

During this day, lunch and transportation will be provided to all participants. At the end of a year, having attended 12 sessions, it is proposed to issue a certificate of attendance to all participants. This will be seen as our corporate social responsibility to the community in which we operate.

9: PROPOSED CAPITAL
The proposer has $US 355,000 set aside this venture. This cash is readily available in his UK bank account. A bank statement, verifying the amount, can be furnished at short notice. Some vital pieces of equipment will be brought in from the UK where the proposer has his home base. The use of local construction materials will be maximised at all times. Although he is of Indian origin, he is married to an ethnic Fijian.
