HEALTH ALERT WIFI/ CORDLESS-PHONES/ SMART-METERS etc

No scientific evidence has determined that wireless technology is safe . . . This exposure affects our whole body . . . Are we equipped to face this sort of radiation? Has evolution provided us with a shell that can protect us? Obviously the answer is no

Protecting ourselves from chronic pulsed-microwave radiation

Dear friends, Pulsed-microwave radiation from WiFi, cordless-phone units, masts, and other transmitters is growing daily. It is appears to be a stress on our bodies: it can trigger debilitating symptoms, and a large body of evidence suggests it may risk gradual increases in cancer/degenerative health. After discovering its destructive impact on my own health, I researched the subject in depth. Here is an introduction: I hope you enjoy it, and find it helpful. Please share it with your friends and networks The warning science is being drowned out by multi-million pound marketing.

DROWNING IN A SEA OF MICROWAVES

Geneticist Dr Mae-Wan Ho has warned that we are drowning in a sea of microwaves (2007): she is one of many scientists struggling to raise awareness. Pulsed microwaves are transmitted continuously by WiFi routers or hubs, cordless-phone units (DECT), and mobile phonemasts/microcells. They are also transmitted in frequent spikes by smart-meters. Although this radiation is non-ionising 1, a large body of under-reported research reveals bioactive effects from weak exposure. These include apparent DNA wear and tear: a medium-term cancer risk. Reviewing the science, and reminding us of the dangers of ignoring warning signs, the Council of Europe and European Environment Agency have called for less public exposure, and protection for whistleblowing scientists, many of whom lose their funding/positions.
There are many examples of the failure to use the precautionary principle in the past, which have resulted in serious and often irreversible damage to health and environments...

Waiting before taking action...can lead to very high health and economic costs, as it did with asbestos, leaded petrol, and smoking Professor Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director, European Environment Agency, commenting on this subject (2007)

Passive WiFi appears to be a similar issue to passive smoking. However, unlike smoke, we can neither see nor smell this radiation (nor that from masts, DECT, & smart-meters). This adds to its potential dangers, and to the rampant rise of pollution occurring today. Governments are not protecting us partly because this is a highly inconvenient truth. The communications industry is a powerful lobbyist, and it is initially less effort to transmit radiation ( e.g. phonemast 4G) than to install fibre-optic broadband. Official bodies such as the ICNIRP tend to cling to an old, potentially dangerous, model (if the radiation does not cause any thermal injury [fry our tissue], what is the problem?) rather than one that properly respects the many, subtle effects cell biologists and others are witnessing2. For this reason, western safety limits remain 2 to 3 magnitudes too high: they are excused by brief studies (quite often industry-sponsored) that by their nature can fail to detect chronic effects. Though analyses vary, concerned scientists from many disciplines are calling for more rigorous standards, and a cleaner environment ( see, for example, www.icems.eu ; www.iemfa.org ) but their caution is being lost in the commercial stampede.
All over the world, there has been an unprecedented explosion in the availability and use of...electrical and wireless communications technologies (mobile and cordless phones, WiFi and WIMAX...) ... We are concerned about the body of evidence that indicates that exposure...interferes with basic human biology and may increase the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases. The exposure levels at which these effects have been observed are many times lower than the standards promulgated by the ICNIRP
from the Porto Alegre Resolution 2009, signed by a large community of concerned scientists

Although some lab studies do not find ill effects, sickness from weak microwave exposure has been known for decades1: Russia has the most research, and tougher safety limits. Concerned scientists who compiled the Bioinitiative Report [ctrl + click], with over 2000 references on the bio-effects of weak microwaves (2007), have called for less public exposure: the levels in many houses already far exceed their recommended limits.

Meanwhile, people reputedly affected by radiation from mobile phone-masts, WiFi, DECT phones, or smart-meters, all report similar symptoms (sometimes termed microwave sickness/electro-sensitivity), namely, any/a range of: trashed sleep, headaches, poor concentration and recall, depression, deep fatigue, increased tinnitus, disorientation, disturbed/racing heartbeat, dizziness (also disordered body clock, night sweats, pains around the body, visual or skin symptoms/flushes, pressure in the head...) This neglected outcry is growing. Although, individually, such symptoms may have many causes, best checked by our GPs, if this resonates with you, or anyone you know, it can be worth slashing exposure for 2 weeks [pages 512] to observe whether they ease. Few people with linked symptoms may realise the radiation is contributing: they may be living, working, or sleeping in it. It took me 2 years to uncover the connection, and the discovery rescued my health. Please help others by circulating this information. Even if you do not yet have visible symptoms, there is little doubt we are all being affected, at least to some degree, at a biochemical level. Pianist Sylvia van der Waerden had unexplained fatigue, lost coordination in her fingers, and was unable remember music she knew by heart. Mystified, she eventually discovered her neighbour had installed a WiFi router on the floor above her piano. When he swapped to wired internet, her symptoms vanished. [ For more case histories, see, e.g. www.wifi-warning.co.uk ] Against our evolution It is understandable if this radiation is subtly incompatible with our bodies: over the millennia, we adapted to visible electromagnetic radiation (light) and evolved eyes to see it/pigments to protect us. There were no oscillating microwaves: the communications industry uses them because they are penetrative. The non-stop, on/off pulse is rather like a repeating gun. Its perhaps unsurprising it can be hard to relax in spaces with WiFi or cordless-phone bases. (Heinrich found chronic anxiety in WiFi-exposed children). Heard with an RF microwave detector, WiFi emits a continual bang-bang-bang. Reviewing the science, the International Commission on Electromagnetic Safety found more toxic effects from pulsed microwaves than non-pulsed (continuous wave).

Best-informed estimates place the proportion of people with significant microwave sickness at around 3.5% (source: Dr Mae-Won Ho, reviewing the field); Sweden places it at 5%. However, the numbers who are already mildly affected (for example, with brain-fag, incipient fatigue, irritability) may be perhaps 20% (source: Dr Andrew Tresidder) & rising.
it is rising due to increasing electro-pollution and exposure. I have seen more patients in the last 2 years than in the previous 10 Dr David Dowson, microwave-aware GP

THE GOOD NEWS help from cable Happily, there is much we can do, if we wish, to reduce our exposure, and protect vulnerable neighbours. Why have suspect radiation passing through every cell in our bodies, 24/7, when we can protect ourselves with cable, and nonWiFi routers? Cleaning up our homes can be a helpful first step.

The effects of microwaves will continue long after [exposure] ... This is called long-term potentiation ...Why do this when a piece of cable and plug would replace WiFi with no loss of performance, and in fact improved performace?
Dr Barrie Trower, microwave specialist

WiFi routers or hubs can be replaced very easily with wired connections. We fitted Ethernet ports for laptops in 3 rooms: it was affordable, and is swift, stable, and simple to use. Some people also benefit from disabling the pulsing WiFi-function (WLAN) on PCs/laptops. Cable broadband is cleaner than dLAN adapters, which, although far less polluting than WiFi, overlay an RF field on house wires, and can fuel mild symptoms. Microwave-pulsing dongles are best avoided, or hung at a distance using long usb cables. By pooling information with neighbours, you may be able to reduce your exposure together. Cordless-phones [p 5] are best replaced with relaxing phone extensions. When pressed to have a smart-meter, you may be able to opt out [please see p 10]. If you live near phone-masts, you can measure the radiation in your home [p 11] to reveal any hotspots. Above all, please share this information. Only by helping each other in this way, can we begin a trend towards a cleaner, safer, environment in which to lead our daily lives. When I measured local microwave radiation levels, the centre of Oxford & Kidlington were amongst the worst. Imagine if we had evolved an ability to see such pollution: central Oxford would be filled with thick, pulsing, shades. We might be clamouring to live in cleaner areas, and to gaze once again at restful blue sky.

Cancer risks Studies did not prove smoking caused cancer, but revealed increased risks. Pulsed-microwave radiation appears to be similarly toxic. The late Professor Neil Cherry (to whom I have dedicated a poem) was one of the first to expose the risks this radiation may pose, including cancer. Click here [ctrl + click] for Sarah Bensons overview, drawing on his rich insights (2009). Drs Lai & Singh were the first to record a comet-tail of damage from DNA exposed to weak nonthermal microwaves (1996). There are now at least 20 international studies revealing DNA strand breaks, mis-transcriptions, and delays in repair.3 (Though we are constantly self-repairing, this is not good!) Others reveal heat-shock proteins, a cancer risk-factor. Professor S Lee & team discovered that just 6 hours weak radiation by 2.45GHz (WiFis most common frequency) changed the expression of 759 genes: this is one reason the National Library of France cancelled its wi-fi contract. Last year, the IARC classed communications microwaves a possible carcinogen. Professor Panagopoulos found damage in exposed fruitflies, and Dr Balmori in frogs [see Introduction, page 2]. The Bio-initiative Report [page 3] has several chapters on the potential cancer risks. Microwave weaponry, begun in the 1950s, continues to be developed behind the scenes. A crowd-control gun has been announced by the US Airforce (Sept 2012); and a nervous-system attacking gun (in development) by Russias Defence Minister (Aug 2012). Although these examples use higher frequencies than mobile communications, it is a useful reminder of the radiations dark side. The alleged microwave attacks on Greenham Common activists (measured by engineer Alisdair Philips, 1982) were in a frequency very close to todays 2G phone-mast radiation. 1970s military research revealed different frequencies can induce different psychotic states. (Source: Nature/Dr Barrie Trower).
To those who are unwell, dismissal can be unhelpful. For example: you are imagining it. Would you also say affected fauna/flora are imagining it? [Introduction, p2] People reporting similar symptoms worldwide? You cant tell when you are being irradiated. Quite! No-one can see, hear, or smell the radiation, and effects may be chronic / delayed. Your WiFi /DECT is less strong than mobile-phone radiation at the ear . Its also whole-body, non-stop, and at a level warning scientists argue is biologically active. [Less strong also neglects
risks from amplitude, resonance, coherence etc: see Dr G Hyland p12, or here].

THE POLLUTION IN OUR HOMES

We need encouragement ... to practice electromagnetic hygiene Alisdair Philips, PowerWatch UK [with

cordless-phone (DECT)

(i) Cordless phones (DECT)

If you have a cordless phone, its base station emits nonstop pulsed microwaves round the clock. (Its rather like planting a phone-mast in your house). The radiation pierces your house, garden, and neighbours. It has a strong 100-per-second pulse: heard via an RF microwave detector, it emits a loud B- B- B- BAAAAARRRRR! To listen to a typical example, click here. (My mother sat near to one for years: although cancer is multi-factorial, and there may have been various, unrelated triggers, I could not help noticing her aggressive cancer was located where the radiation struck her lower back). There is little doubt that cordless-phone units can stress the heart: Professor Havas (2010) discovered they can disturb cardiograms (a blind test), revealing they have triggered an irregular/racing heartbeat. John Jamieson [see p 9] traced his jumping heartbeat to his neighbours cordless-phone base station: when replaced, his symptoms vanished. Ordinary phones with cords appear to be healthier. Failing this, Siemens Gigaset cordless phones emit full radiation only during calls: health-aware users keep their calls short. Dr Fragapoulou discovered cordless-phone radiation (DECT) can radically alter the expression of 63+ brain proteins in mice exposed for 8 hours/day (2012). Mobile phone radiation caused similar distortions. She suggests this may help explain linked headaches, sleep disturbance, or tumour induction. Similar studies (Salford/Oscar/Persson/ Frey) reveal weak microwaves can make the blood-brain barrier more permeable, and open to toxins.
Co-researcher Professor Lukas Magaritis concluded wireless DECT should be located as far away as possible from places that people use to spend many hours a day, not to mention children of all ages Dr Fragapoulou adds the potential consequences for learning, memory and interpersonal relations, at the very

least, need societys immediate attention, given the widespread exposure to microwave radiation across the globe

Nb, it is worth avoiding (digital) wireless baby monitors: they emit nonstop DECT radiation.

ii) WiFi routers: the new passive smoking

The health hazards associated with wireless microwaves are at least comparable to, if not worse than, those associated with cigarette smoking... Now that smoking bans are in place all over the world, there is no reason not to do the same with WiFi
Dr Mae-Wan Ho (geneticist), after reviewing the science (Isis Report 17.5.07)

Over two years ago, my sleep crumbled from poor to near-zero: nights were endless, a desert. The change was fast, shocking, and relentless; I felt ill, dizzy, and half-alive. Poetry ceased; I was forced to give up my job. I tried many health therapies diet, CBT, herbs, sleep-CDs (etc etc) to no avail. My doctor, although excellent, was unable to help. Eventually, winnowing records with my husband Ian, I noticed the illness had followed the sudden arrival of (highuser) WiFi at work, and at home. Replacing WiFi, and using a Faraday Cage [p11] rescued my health. However, if I am exposed to WiFi from other sources (sometimes not realising until checking the next day), my sleep is often destroyed for 2 nights.[The author, right:] I soon discovered many people struggling with WiFi sensitivity. Some feel frightened and alone, but they may be only the tip of the iceberg: pioneering GP Dr Andrew Tresidder (Somerset) has uncovered health problems in many patients that resolved only when WiFi, or other transmitters, were removed (with thanks to Dr Tresidder). He describes our wireless boom as a health time-bomb. Interviewed by Dr Mercola, PowerWatch founder Alisdair Philips compared using a WiFi laptop & router to putting a small phone-mast in your house. A recent paper by Professor Avendano (Andrology, 2012) found sperm DNA damage in men using WiFi laptops, whilst a small Dutch study found bark lesions/leaf death in ash trees near routers. Other studies reveal striking EEG changes. There is a lack of funding to expose further effects: research in this area relies heavily on commercial sponsorship.

Military physicist Dr Barrie Trower has researched the history of this field, and is acutely aware of its dark side. He has been trying to defend parents contesting school WiFi in court. Please read his revealing overview here. He opposes symptom-fuelling WiFi meshes, or WiMAX (a potent form of WiFi designed to cover large areas). They are being imposed on some towns and cities, without warning, or residents consent:
Unbeknownst to me, the local council decided to erect a Wifimesh system throughout the town centre. The first I knew of it was splitting headaches the first Id ever had nausea, insomnia, dripping sweat, a sense of needles in my eyes... My wifes experience was similar... We soon discovered we were not alone 40% of the people surveyed in the new Wifi zone were reporting similar symptoms Stephen Kane, Glastonbury (right)
He discovered a transmitter 20m from his door. Residents fought a long battle to get the masts removed. Please oppose any blanket WiFi schemes near you.

Many schools (Canada), libraries (France), and some UK community centres, have replaced WiFi with wired internet following health problems. Lakehead University, Ontario, dropped WiFi after the Vice Chancellor studied the science. The town of Herouville St Clair (France) has similarly replaced WiFi with fibreoptic broadband. Salzburg has created a clean environment low in RF-microwave and ELF1 radiation: an innovative, inspiring example. WiFi routers/hubs pierce wall after wall. Here in the UK, it is perhaps time to share information with our neighbours so we can recreate healthy homes. Although we cant dampen all the WiFi invading our homes, we can at least address the closest and strongest. If a neighbour is unresponsive, a few layers of thick aluminium foil on shared walls will rebuff the radiation ; however, the microwaves can pulse through tiny gaps. Campus and library WiFi is a growing problem. If you are a student, and suspect you have linked symptoms, you are not alone: listen to this report from Mountain View. Ask your students union to lobby for some cableonly accommodation; write to the board of governors. Where possible, we need to encourage wired connections in our carehomes, work-places and schools, and clear signage. We need to oppose the trend to fit inescapable 24-hour WiFi in public spaces our eatingplaces, pubs, b & bs, and hotels; our buses, flights, and trains. As Professor Lai has pointed out, microwaves on public transport may be
9

particularly toxic because the metal compartments tend to trap the radiation. (Similarly, mobile phones in cars emit higher radiation to pierce its cage, and car Bluetooth etc may cause discomfort). Most polluters are not aware they are emitting radiation which can trap staff and customers in discomfort. Please give/email them a copy of wi-fi warnings handy downloadable leaflet and consider sharing Professor Havass thoughtful video. See here & here for details of symptoms people are experiencing. (Heinz Tschanz, for example, had insomnia with a racing heartbeat until his neighbours switched off their WiFi.

(iii) Home hubs

microwave hubs (WiFi units) in homes across Britain. These pulse out radiation 24/7. If you have one, youre almost certainly tied into their FON scheme [see opting out], allowing travellers to piggyback on As if this isnt enough, BT your signal: this means your WiFi cannot be have been planting pulsed- disabled, even overnight. Worse, the new 3.0 models use a higher microwave frequency (5.GHz) which may be more toxic. (See Professor Franz Adlkofers warnings about rising microwave frequencies and DNA breakages; also Schwarz/Diem). Many users are reporting symptoms. The danger, however, is that most home hub households struggling with linked brain-fag, poor sleep, sick headaches, etc. may be unlikely to make the connection. Worse still, all the pre-existing models (including the 2.0) pulse out a redundant second set of non-stop, pulsing microwaves: this is their inbuilt DECT base station, which emits the stressful radiation described earlier [see page 6]. It cannot be switched off, so if you are sold a cordless-phone unit, you will end up with a third, needless, source!! Unsurprisingly, when heard via a radiofrequency microwavedetector [p11], these hubs make a foul noise. If your neighbours have one, it can be a shock to hear the microwave radiation ripping through a shared wall: share the sound. Suggest they browse www.wifi-warning.co.uk, which tactfully airs the problem, or give them its leaflet. They may well be receptive: they too are at risk.
10

Luckily, you dont need a hub to use BT broadband: most other routers will work equally well [for technical details, see here]. Choose a wired one, or disable the WiFi: if merely switched off, it may reactivate (and the LED light resume) when firmware upgrades are posted.
I know a 16 year old who just couldnt function properly at home. Unable to concentrate on her homework or use her computer, she was feeling very disoriented and depressed. I replaced their BT Home Hub 2.0 with an old wired router...and Hey Presto! she instantly felt so much better But she still wasnt sleeping well. A quick survey with my detector revealed another BT Home Hub in her neighbours house, in the room adjoining her bedroom! John Jamieson

He advised her to coat her bedroom wall with several layers of aluminium foil (rebuffs microwaves), and her sleep was restored. Since discovering DECT radiation was damaging his health, John Jamieson has helped many people identify/recover from their apparent microwave radiation sickness. (See http://wavegoodbye.info)

(iv) Smart meters: an invasion of our homes

Within two months of smart-meters being introduced in California, over 2000 households filed health complaints (2010). These were not trivial: householders struggled with fierce headaches, trashed sleep, nausea, and other microwave sickness symptoms. [Please read some typical testimonials here, and Susan Brinchmans experiences]. Some were reduced to sleeping in their cars. Similar problems are spreading across other US states, whilst in Germany, some householders have resorted to taking an axe to their meters! Meanwhile, I notice bewildered voices (posted on the web) in UK pilot schemes:
A number of these devices have been installed in the vicinity very recently and now my wife and I are getting constant headaches just when we are at home, we find it hard to get to sleep and when we do its broken and sleep after 5am is rare. I have been told these smart meters pulse out high levels of electrosmog every 6 minutes as they poll their data. Does anyone know where to get this checked out? ...I wonder how many [homes] will be affected like ours. Andrew Washington, Maidstone
(posted 20.11.2011 in thisismoney.co.uk)

11

Although models vary, all dumb-meters (as they are being dubbed in America) send data using frequent bursts of pulsed-microwaves instead of wires. Measurements on the ground reveal these spikes are far greater than claimed, particularly in houses with repeaters relaying others data. Misleadingly marketed as green (since when has it been green to pollute our homes?), they give utility companies unprecedented access to data for marketing companies are gagging to install them and pose security risks. When I learned that the UK was planning compulsory smart-meters in all UK homes, despite the health risks associated with them, I wrote to all MPs, and many departments. In an overnight report (please excuse the flaws!) to a Select Committee, I argued it is unethical to trap people, with symptoms, in polluted homes, and cited human rights law. Although the scheme has been delayed, and there will now be an opt-out clause for those who refuse a meter, it wont shield you from neighbours meters, or the polluted neighbourhoods the meters will create. Nor will it protect the countless innocent people who have no idea smart-meters could potentially make them unwell. The DECC is still intent on a national roll-out, arguing the radiation is within ICNIRPs widely denounced safety limits[see p2]. To help oppose this pollution of our homes, please see smartmeterpetition.org & spread awareness as widely as possible: fliers are available here. (+If
time, please emailtheteam@38degrees.org.uk the more of us who do so, the

more likely they are to respond. To email your MP, please click here). We also

need to expose the trend towards microwave-pulsing smart kitchen appliances etc, adding needless radiation to our homes. Dr Dietrich Klinghardt is a naturopath who researched a possible link between prenatal microwaves/emfs, neurological changes, and autism. (Though plausible, this lacks a large, peer-reviewed study). He claims clinical experience of patients affected by smart-meters, including the chronically fatigued. Visit/share his thoughtful video at take back your power.net, or click here (If short of time, scroll forward 23 mins). Electropollution may affect blood sugar/diabetes: see work by Professor Havas.

(v) mobile-phone masts near you

Like WiFi and DECT, mobile-phone masts transmit pulse-modulated microwaves. They emit this apparently carcinogenic radiation 24/7, rising with phone use. If we buy into 4G or 5G, the irradiation of our towns, fields and villages will intensify. We need a culture of minimum iphone use and cabled connectivity: i-devices are less cool when we begin to perceive the underlying, pro-aging risks to DNA 3 and melatonin
[see Resonance, p2].

Unsurprisingly, a range of researchers have recorded increased headaches and other symptoms, such as depression, nausea in children, poor concentration, sleep problems, vertigo, fatigue, or nosebleeds, in people living within 300m (+) of masts (see the Bamberg
report, and work by, e.g. Oberfeld/ Navarro /Abdel-Rassoul/ Bortkiewicz / Hutter / Riddervold / Santini/ Eger & Jahn). Many of us now live in such proximity. To

add to the complexity, houses in line of sight of masts can be more polluted than those behind dense buildings, and main-beam fall zones appear to be more toxic (see Dr J Walker in mast-sanity.org). Here are two tools to help you check mast radiation near you (i) click on Ofcoms map of (declared) phone masts: www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk (ii) if you discover masts within 500m (1km if very tall), or further but in view, consider hiring a radiofrequency detector (or electrosmog detector), widely available via the web, to reveal microwave hotspots in your house. Reported symptoms tend to multiply over 0.4V/m. Some
microwave-sensitive people report health effects at much lower levels, e.g. 0.05+V/m (source: PowerWatch uk) or, depending on readings, if line-of-sight or multiple masts are within a mile or so.

13

It can be easier to sit/sleep in the healthier zones than to move house! Acoustic detectors (such as Acoustimeter, or HF Analyser) enable you to hear which radiation is emanating from phone masts, and which from WiFi/DECT. Downstairs rooms are sometimes less mast-affected. If your bed is in a hotspot, difficult to move, and you are sleeping poorly, you can buy shielding canopies/materials (see, e.g. EMFields /Healthy House uk/etc) in effect, a Faraday cage blocking the radiation. In our house, the highest radiation was over my pillow ( !!). It may have contributed to years of poor sleep, followed by sleep starvation after WiFis arrival. Studies in Germany and Israel (Eger 2005; Wolf 2004) revealed sharply raised cancerrates in residents living near a mobile phone-mast over a 5+ year period. Many masts now host multi-transmitters. A peerreviewed study by Dr Adilza Dode needs to be publicised: it did not reach the UK press. Scrutinising health records for Minas Gerais, Brazil, she uncovered a striking relationship between mast density/proximity and deaths caused by many common cancers [e.g. breast/prostate], 2010. Her courageous work continues.

Dr Adilza Dode

It is unethical that despite growing data on the cancer risks of phonemasts, presiding powers still pile them on our heads. According to Mast Sanity, the UK had 52,000 masts in 2009, and growth continues unabated (in 2011, George Osborne awarded 150 million for expansion). We need to be alert for hidden stealth masts and smaller, unmapped transmitters such as microcells (on city posts/buildings) and picocells /femtocells, the next wave of easy-to-hide transmitters: Vodafone wants to push femtocells into rural pubs.

typical mobile-phone masts (above); and microcell (far right) appearances vary

14

Though individual councillors may be helpful, poorly informed councils are still accepting phone-mast increases, and their rent, as if there was no tomorrow. With over 40 masts in a square mile, central Oxford is densely polluted. (It is possibly no accident that, according to the local press, the citys rising cancer rates exceed national increases). The council recently approved a rollout of over a 100 new masts in and around the city4: such recklessness must be challenged. Wherever you are based, why not alert councillors to Dr Dodes research? Highlight symptom studies, & research on childhood cancer revealing that towns with higher mast radiation have higher rates ( Li, Lui & team; Taiwan 2012).
The UK system heavily favours the industry: few masts require planning permission, and objections on health-grounds alone are not permitted, but councils could do far more to oppose them, and to lobby for controls. A few MPs have attempted to fight for reform (e.g. Lib Dem MP Andrew Stunell): let us encourage our MPs to do the same. Eileen OConnor, a survivor of the Wishart cancer cluster, founded the EM Radiation Research Trust [click here ]. Although cancer clusters are an emotive issue, and it is difficult to prove links with specific masts, I notice San Diego State University attempted to muffle a cluster in a high-microwave study area (2012).

People living near TETRA masts [shown on sitefinder, p11], which have a carrier-wave pulse within beta brain-wave frequencies, often report stubborn insomnia: if this is you, alert councillors, and try sleeping in a Faraday cage [see p11]. The Green Party opposed TETRA, recommending our police services use safer communications, as in most other countries. Other body systems may be at risk. Although some lab studies do not find statistically significant changes, field research led by doctors in West Kempten found wildly disordered serotonin and melatonin (crucial to mood/sleep) after a mast was installed; however, this needs supporting research. (See Resonance, intro. p2, for reflections on how microwaves may be ruining sleep). Elsewhere, Buchner & Eger recorded sustained adrenal changes (2011), & Professor Eskander reduced thyroid/other hormones (2011). The Bioinitiative Report [see p.3] explores chronic risks, including to the nervous /immune systems. Some physiologists, such as Professor Karl Hecht, warn of cumulative stress at a systemic level. Nobel nominee Dr Gerard Hyland had striking insights into phone-mast radiation: click here. Since then, research-leader Professor Adlkofer (Munich)
15

has warned that phone-mast 3G (now UK-wide: the

Brown government made 22billion from its sale) risks 10 times the DNA breakage rate of 2G. Corporations are pushing to pump out 4G (on top of 2G/ 3G microwaves) followed by 5G for videostreaming, even in remote areas. (As if wed wish to sit on a Dartmoor tor watching Bmovies!)
Dartmoor photo by Herby

We need to help others to understand that 4G/5G, and the gadgets they feed, may be a creeping pollution of our bodies, and the environment [see Introduction, p2, for eco-impacts]. In the meantime, fitting 4G hotspots on homeless people (Texas, 2012) is sheer abuse. Perhaps, as a culture, we have been lulled into a false of security by radios and TVs. However, it is remembering that the radiofrequency masts which these has given warning signs (e.g. associated rises sense worth supply

in skin cancer, Hallberg & Johansson2002-7; leukaemia, Park 2004; melatonin falls in cattle)

And mobile phones? Each time we use one, we inflict radiation on people nearby. Mammalian studies suggest this passive exposure may be dangerous: neurosurgeon Dr Leif Salford explains [here] that damage to the blood-brain barrier appears to peak at levels equivalent to 1.85m from a mobile phone, and that any resulting albumin leakage is neurotoxic. I choose not to use one: we need role models to remind us we can lead happy, efficient, mobile-free lives. (Please join me, or save them for emergencies). Dr Charles Teo noticed his patients brain tumours often arose in the area held to their phones. (Contrary to government claims, the Interphone study found a rise in gliomas/acoustic neuromas). Brain tumours are catching up with leukaemia as the main fatal cancer in children: MRI scans by Professor Gandhi [here, p12] revealed the radiation penetrates childrens skulls more deeply than adults. Several studies have confirmed that mobile phones carried on the body reduce sperm counts. Smart phones emit far more radiation. If left in WiFi mode (WLAN), I-pads pulse continual, higher radiation. In March 2012, Israels parliament approved the passage of a bill requiring mobile phones to be labelled like cigarettes, and carry the following words (translation):

Warning the Health Ministry cautions that heavy use and carrying the device next to the body may increase the risk of cancer, especially among children "

REFLECTIONS
It is very likely that, in the future, todays bash-it-out radiation will be seen as deeply unwise. How reckless to have immersed people and planet in subtly toxic, ever increasing, pulsed-microwave radiation! Innovative, low-radiation technology such as superfast fibre- optics may increase, and any new RF-microwave devices (if we are still risking their use) may need to be so sensitive that they can use emissions magnitudes below current levels. However, unless we challenge todays wi/mobile juggernaut, we may risk a narrowing tunnel of gradual ill health. Cables and fibres are bio-protective: we need to use them, and fight for them (and similar, visionary, technologies) to reduce public exposure. Warning scientists in this field often suffer from harassment [e.g. here: scroll to end]. Many have been forced into early retirement. We can support them by voicing their findings. Professor O P Gandhi lost his funding, department, and position after exposing mobiles deep radiation of children. Professor Panagopoulus, who studied genetic damage in exposed fruit-flies, lost his research facilities (2010). He fears a future in which some people profit excessively from harm and no-one dares to speak the scientific truth. Yes: many short-term exposure studies do not find statistically significant bioactive effects. (The Dept of Health, and ICNIRP, trumpet these; also the WHO, whose head of this field for many years was reputedly an industry champion). But we must not allow them to blind us to research that does show cause for concern: for example, when neurobiologist Professor Karl Hecht was commissioned to translate 878 related Russian research papers (Germany), his findings were so disturbing, they were immediately mothballed! Professor Henry Lai discovered that independently funded cell-phone studies are more than twice as likely to report biological effects as those with any industry funding (2006). In many ways, this asks: what kind of world do we want? One in which (say) we take a few split seconds to hook up our laptops/tablets, and dont crave instant multi-videos in every nook and cranny, every cirque and field; or a world in which chronic conditions/cancer further encroach on us, and in

which we risk feeling increasingly unwell in our homes, schools, and workplaces;

our local walks and cafs; our transport; and even in our pubs.

In wifi-warning, Poppy Rhodes describes how her health improved dramatically when she stayed in a WiFi-free house in the country (click here), but this option is shrinking. Do we want carcinogenic, microwavebusy buildings full of unnecessary smart appliances, or something a little simpler, where we can relax in good health? Or are we going to become so mired in microwaves that we forget , and few children can experience, what clear-headed, normal health feels like? One Dutch sufferer described how, after slashing his exposure, two years of illness fell away like snow before the sun. Here too is John Jamieson (with my thanks) describing how he and his wife felt, at home, after buying a healthier phone for their neighbour, whose DECT had been disturbing Johns heartbeat:
We instantly felt clearer in our heads, a bit like turning the air-

conditioning off when you dont realise its on and that you immediately notice when it goes off. We both felt that the air was suddenly clear, like walking in the countryside, and soon other ...symptoms disappeared too, such as general disorientation and skin problems

Protest across the world In Israel, the national parents association petitioned the Israeli Supreme Court for a ban on school WiFi (2012). In Italy, Mr I. Marcolini won a court case suing his employer for brain cancer from cell-phone use (2012), and in Zutphen, Holland, a beekeeper successfully overthrew a phone-mast proposal, citing risks to bees (2012). In Japan, the Shiota family made a 197-mile protest walk after being twice-afflicted by phone-mast radiation; whilst in France, the research and protest group Next-up has staged street art. In the USA, smart-meter wars continue: some households are bolting steel cages to their wired meters to retain them! Others are pursuing injunctions. Here in Britain, we seem to have been dazed by the marketing. Pollution is soaring: please help to raise awareness. (Mention Canada has a hospital clinic treating microwave sickness/ electro-sensitivity). Wi-fi in schools is trying to air Russian scientists warnings to shield children from mobile phones and WiFi, but they remain barely known.

Although out-weighed by the industry, German protesters are trying to build a civil rights movement. Their daylong rally in Munich (2012) included talks and music. The pressure group DiagnoseFunk has online leaflets on microwave emissions mount a protest from childrens gaming consoles etc.

Citizens for Safe Technology (USA) is one of many, emerging peoples websites around the globe struggling to try to raise awareness they offer action packs to help people fend off smart-meters/WiFi (click here). Others include Artists Against Wi-fi (Facebook), Irelands www.eirewaves.com, and Australias www.emrstop.org, who write Enough is enough ...This no matter for navel gazing...this is a public health crisis. However, these are barely-heard whispers beside the roar of wireless/mobile marketing on countless TV channels, and so where possible we need to add our voices to their call for a healthier, more visionary, low-radiation world. A useful call to arms is:

we are not laboratory rats, and object to this dangerous mass experiment, without our permission, on our health

In the electro-magnetic spectrum, microwaves are in the radiofrequency range, with a longer wavelength than light (wavelengths shorter than

u.v.light are ionising). Though ionising radiation is more lethal (e.g. nuclear) , longer wavelengths can be bioactive, even when weak (e.g , Extra Low Frequency was classed a 2B carcinogen, 2002, after a childhood-leukaemia correlation with large, overhead powerlines). The first detailed paper on sickness from weak microwave radiation, by Dr E Schliephake, was published in 1932.
