Course Setup Instructions

This document contains system and software requirements required for the Application Lifecycle Management (ALM)/Quality Center 11 Essentials (4 days) course and the ALM QC 11 Site Administration course. Important Note: Please see the support web site for the most current information on system requirements. Minimum system requirements for the QC training client (student machine): This section describes the client system configurations for installing a Quality Center client. CPU Memory (RAM) Free disk space Core duo 1.6 Ghz (or higher) or equivalent compatible processor 2 GB minimum 2 GB minimum

Notes: If you are integrating HP Quality Center with other HP testing tools, you must modify the DCOM permissions on your client machine. You can work with the HP Quality Center client using a remote desktop Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 or 8

Browser

Note: For customers who have restrictions on plugins in their browsers, such as ActiveX, ALM can be loaded in the HP ALM Explorer Add-in. For more information on downloading and installing the add-in, refer to the HP Application Lifecycle Management Installation Guide Visual C++ 2005 SP1 ATL Security Update Redistributable Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (SP1) o Microsoft Office 2007 (SP2)

Microsoft Word 97 or higher Microsoft Excel 97 or higher Zip utility software like WinZip or PKZip (required to unzip training files.) QuickTest Professional 10 (with license) QuickTest Professional Add-in for Quality Center Microsoft Word Add-in for Quality Center Microsoft Excel Add-in for Quality Center ALM/QC11E--SF-XX.zip (contains the exercise files)* * The Student File zip files should be downloaded from the Education Services web site at http://www.merctraining.com. The XX denotes a possible file version may be appended to the file name.

Checklist and Training Setup Instructions

All installations require Administrative privileges. Please check each item below when complete:

A. QUALITY CENTER INSTALL ON INSTRUCTOR MACHINE 1. Install Quality Center. This course assumes that the Quality Center server will be installed on each student machine. A basic installation of Quality Center should be performed per the product installation guide. This installation must be done with Administrative Privileges. Download and install the QuickTest Professional Add-in for Quality Center from the Quality Center Add-Ins page.

B. DOWNLOAD PROJECT AND STUDENT FILES 1. Download and unzip the training files on all the student machines for Introduction to ALM/QC 11. The ALM/QC11E-SF-XX.zip file contains the following files: FRS_Requirements.xls Lab_Reqs.xls FlightLogin.xls MToursLogin.xls BookFlight QTP script Create Order QTP Script FlightTrip_Req.doc Flight Application and Lab Project Files

Unzip these files to the C: drive on the student machines and put them in the following folder: C:\Training\ALM_QC 11 Essentials. 2. Download and unzip the training files on all the student machines for ALM/QC11: Site Administration. The ALM_QC11SA-SF-XX.zip file contains the following files: ImportFR.QCP ActionCanExecute.txt PlanningReference.xls

Unzip these files to the C: drive on the student machines and put them in the following folder: C:\Training\ALM_QC 11 Site Administration.

C. INSTALL QUICKTEST PROFESSIONAL 1. Install QuickTest Professional on all the student machines. This course requires that QuickTest Professional be installed on all the student machines. A basic installation of QuickTest Professional should be performed according to the product installation guide. This installation must be done with Administrative Privileges. To allow Quality Center to run QuickTest scripts on student machines: 1. Open QuickTest Professional. 2. From the menu select Tools, Options then the Run tab. 3. Check Allow other HP products to run tests and components. 4. Click OK. 5. Close QuickTest Professional.

2. Install the QuickTest Professional Add-in for Quality Center on all the student machines.

D. PROJECT SETUP 1. Create the training user account. All lab exercises in this course will have students log in using the training user account and welcome password. 1. Launch Quality Center (standard URL format is http://<Quality Center server name>:<port>/qcbin). 2. From the Quality Center login page, click Site Administration. This opens the Site Administration login page. 3. Enter the User name and Password. 4. Click the Login button. 5. On the Site Administration page, click the Site Users tab. 6. Click the New User button. This opens the New User dialog box. 7. Enter User Name as training and click OK. 8. Under the Site Users tab, all the users are listed. Select training. 9. Click the Password button that appears on the right side of the screen, below the DB Servers tab. The Set User Password dialog box appears. 10. Enter welcome in the New Password and Retype Password fields. Click OK

2. Create the ALM_Essentials and the ALM_Site Admin domains.

1. On the Site Administration page, click the Site Projects tab. 2. On the Site Projects tab, click Create Domain. 3. In the Domain Name field, type ALM_Essentials and click OK. 4. Follow the instructions above to create an ALM_Site Admin domain.

3. Import the project files (qcp) into Quality Center. (These instructions are for the ALM/QC 11 Essentials course.

1. From the Site Project list, select the ALM_Essentials domain. 2. Click Import Project from QC Project file. 3. Browse to Training > ALM_QC 11 Essentials > Project Files and select FlightApplication, click Open and Next. 4. In the Project Name field, type FlightApplication.

5. Verify the database server log on credentials and click Next. 6. Add the training user to the Project Administrators list and click Next. 7. Ensure that the Activate Project check box is checked and click Create. 8. Repeat steps 1 through 7 for all the FlightApplication project files (4-10) naming them 4Flight, 5Flight, etc. 4. Set up the permissions that will give the training user access to the Quality Center Demo project. 1. Add the training user to the QualityCenter_Demo project. In the Site Administration page, click the Site Projects tab. From the Projects list, select QualityCenter_Demo. Click the Project Users tab on the right side of the page. Click the Add button. A drop-down menu appears. From the drop-down menu, select Add from the Users List. The users list appears. Select training and click Add selected users to the project. The training user is listed under the Project Users tab. Check the check box for training user under the Project Administrator column.

5. Set up the permissions that will give the training user access to Site Administration. (These instructions are for the ALM/QC11: Site Administration course.)

1. Assign Site Administration privileges to the training user. a) b) c) d) On the Site Administration page, click the Site Users tab. On the toolbar, click the Site Administrators button. The Site Administrators window appears. Click Add. The Quality Center users list appears in the right pane of the Site Administrators. From the Quality Center users, select training and click the Add Selected Users button. The training user appears in the Site Administrators list. Click Close to close the Site Administrators window.

6. Create the users needed for the labs. Set up all users with no password. (These instructions are for the ALM/QC11: Site Administration course.) All lab exercises in this course will have students log in using the training user account and welcome password. Note: The only information that is required for the labs to work is the User Name, Full Name and Description.
