DEBATE SOCIAL MEDIA A BOON OR BANE Good Morning, respected judges, teachers and my worthy opponents.

. The topic before the house today is , "Social Media- A Boon or Bane? " and I, Aakarsh Jain of class 8-F will present my views strongly for the motion i.e. Social Media is a Boon. In todays world of advanced technology and futuristic inventions, our everyday life is surrounded with mediums of mass communication. Social media has found an integral and vital place in especially the lives of students and youngsters. Today's youth find it impossible to live without their daily share of socila media. This social media includes Television, mobile phones and the most popular of all , the social networking sites on the internet like facebook and twitter. These devices have brought people from different parts of the world closer and turned the entire world into a small village where information can be exchanged with the help of IT technology.What everyone is speculating is whether social media actually harms more than it benefits? My worthy opponents might say that social media is the major cause of distraction for school going students and that it diverts them from studies, outdoor activities and maintaing ties with family and friends in the real world and not in cyber space. Moreover they might say that social media can sometimes cause henious crimes like kidnappings, social crime and even political instability and riots. But I must remind them that these arguments can be put forth for any invention of man. One of the most useful kitchen objects like knives can be used to threat or kill or just accidently hurt someone. Smilarly the fire to cook and accomplish innumerable things everyday can cause destruction of people and property. But that doesn't mean that we stop using knives or fire as they are essential parts of our life and survival without them is impossible. We thus cannot regard social media as a bane just because it can and has been misused. We need to observe caution and guide children on how to make the best of social media and avoid mishappenings. No one can deny the surpassing benefits of social media. Social media can be used to increase public awareness on various issues like women's equality or consumer rights. It can be used to unite peole of the country against unjust practices or at a time of ardent crisis. Social media can also help in increasing and developing a student's knowledge and making him a more socially aware citizen. Moreover social media helps blur the lines that divide people all over in so many factions and encourage harmonious development. Thus , social media is a boon if used with the best intentions.
