Information on application for studies at research level at the Department of Theology


Final day for applications for studies at research level is 11 September. Start spring term 2010 Application implies full time studies if nothing else is indicated. Application to be sent to Registrator, Uppsala universitet, UFV-PA 2009/1827, Box 256, 75l 05 Uppsala

The following documents should be included in the application: 1. Completed application form (can be taken from the website www.teol.uu.se

forskarutbildning - Application for admission to postgraduate studies 2010 or collected from the department) 2. Register printouts and in relevant cases high school grades which prove that the candidate meets both general and particular qualification requirements for studies at research level at the Faculty of Theology. In relevant cases a copy of the candidates degree certificate should also be included. 3. Essays written at C- and D-level, and in relevant cases undergraduate thesis. 4. Suggestion for financial plan for studies at research level see detailed information attached to the application form. 5. A project description of 6 pages with the following headings: Aim, questions, material, method, theoretical framework, the relation of the study to earlier research and material for the future thesis. All headings should be included. 6. Note who you have approached and asked to become your supervisor. Before you hand in your application you must have contacted the professor or subject representative within the subject area in which you intend to carry out your studies at research level, in order to have gained information about the current research profiles within the relevant subject. Applications which do not include information on prospective and contacted supervisor will not be considered. 7. Your application should be sent along with 9 additional copies (apart from essays of which only one copy should be sent in). Preparation of decision on admissions to studies at research level Once your application has arrived your papers will be sent to the relevant subject area head who, along with other supervisors within the subject/subject area will asses the applicants in the subject area. The different subject areas may order the applicants with reference made to the particular research profile of the subject area. All applications to studies at research level will then be studied by the faculty boards working group for issues connected to studies at research level. The criteria applied are the following: analytical ability, stringency of method, awareness of method, ability for critical thought, good knowledge of literature and primary material relevant to the subject of the thesis, independence and originality, breadth, previous knowledge relevant to the thesis subject area, ability to communicate in written text. (For those already accepted): Good progression in relation to total study time, expressed in the form of examined reading courses and thesis chapters presented. It is possible that interviews will be held. A suggestion for a decision on selection and acceptance will be made to the

faculty board. In connection with the preparation of the decision the financial plans for those considered for admission will be studied. The faculty board will make a decision on allocation on places for studies at research level on 8 December 2009.
