Introduction to IT Division
The Higher Colleges of Technology offers one of UAE s largest selections of Information Technology programs. Vision of the IT Division To be the leading Division at HCT in providing students with an innovative, creative, exciting and future oriented IT education in a rapidly changing environment. Mission of the IT Division The mission of the IT Division is to educate UAE Nationals with a dynamic and diverse curriculum in Information Technology in order to prepare them for professional and managerial roles in an international environment; to be productive, confident and ethical citizens who are able to capitalize on change in a rapidly evolving technological world.

Goal 1: Generic Graduates of the program will have the knowledge, skills and attributes to solve real world problems using technology. Goal 2: Intellectual/ cognitive skills Graduates of the program will be able to use analytical problem solving, decision making, and critical thinking skills by utilizing information technology in various fields Goal 3: Transferrable skills Graduates of the program will be able to apply effective communication skills to evaluate and integrate the principles of social responsibility, cultural sensitivity, teamwork, and ethical practices in an evolving local and global context.

IT Division Program Requirements


Program Entry Requirements: See Academic Framework Minimum Admission Requirements (p. 27) HD Exit Pathway: A student can elect to complete the HD Exit pathway (with or without a major) at the commencement of Semester 6 of the program. To graduate with a Higher Diploma in Information Technology (with or without a major) the student must complete a total of 144 credits and IELTS Academic Module with an overall IELTS band of 5.5 with no skill level below 5.0. Bachelor of Science Requirement: To graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (with or without a Program Major) the student must complete a total of 192 credits.

The Mission: The Mission of database management major is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to develop database business applications. Students will be able to analyze, design, code, test and implement business applications using different tools and techniques such as data modeling, RDBMS, SQL, and client side applications. HD/BAS in Information Technology Major: Information Systems Security


The Mission: The Mission of Information Systems Security Major is prepare students to recognize and combat information system threats and vulnerabilities. The ISS Major plans to cultivate an appropriate knowledge of computer, network and web security that will increase the likelihood of the next generation of IT workers to have the background needed to design and develop systems that are engineered to be reliable and secure. In addition to possessing state-of-the-art knowledge in the preservation of information assets, students will become experts in the identification of computer security vulnerabilities. Students will also understand forensic requirements needed to prove an attack occurred, identify its origin, assess the extent of the damage or loss of information, and design strategies that ensure data can be recovered

The Mission: The program will prepare students of become Information Technologists with breadth in the core information technologies of programming, networking, database and web development while allowing them to specialize in one particular area of information technology. The program will promote English communication, leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving so that graduates can work effectively as Information Technologists in an international environment with the adaptability to respond to opportunities in the rapidly evolving field of information and communication technologies.

Diploma in Information Technology


The Mission: The mission of the Diploma in Information Technology is to produce entry-level technicians who have basic technical skills in information management, networking, and web technologies. These technicians will be able to identify, analyze and solve problems and successfully complete basic projects requiring the deployment of information technologies. There will be opportunities for concentrations in Networking, Office Administration, PC Support, and Web Development. In this program, students will use English to communicate verbally and in writing on a variety of general and professional issues. Program Entry Requirements: Successful completion of all courses in the Diploma Foundations Year. Program Regulations: Students assessed to be in need of remediation to complete the final English assessment have the option of registering for the noncredit course of ENGL 2255 Diploma English IV. Higher Diploma in Information Technology (Transitional)


The Mission: The program will prepare students as Information Technologists with breadth in the core information technologies of programming, networking, database and web development. The program will promote English communication, leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving so that graduates can work effectively as Information Technologists in an international environment with the adaptability to respond to opportunities in the rapidly evolving field of information and communication technologies. Program Entry Requirements: Students must meet the minimum academic requirement for program entry as set out in the Program Regulations. Students may register in a course only after successful completion of all courses in the Higher Diploma Foundations Year that are pre-requisites to courses in Higher Diploma Year one, and must satisfy all the criteria for progression under the Higher Diploma Foundations Progressions Policy.

Program Regulations: At least 32 credits of 300-level courses (e.g ITEC N374, ENGL N340, WORK N395) are required for graduation. Students do not need to have a major to be awarded a Higher Diploma in Information Technology. If the student completes the required courses for a major, a notation specifying the major will be shown on the student s transcript. If a student completes the required courses for more than one major, the transcript notation will show only one major. Students who have completed any of the following sets of courses in a Diploma level program may be exempted from the course ITEC N100: (ITEC N105, ITEC N107 and ITEC N153) OR (ITDP N0104, ITDP N0108 and ITDP N0110) OR (ITDP N0151 and BUSI N1190.)
